We are contemplating a trip to Germany. I earlier purchased Rick Steves' Germany 2013.
5 Stars! Rick Steves' Germany 2013
There's a newer 2014 version out, and it's undoubtedly just as good.

I thought I'd also try one of Steve's "snapshot" series, books on a single city, and purchased this "Snapshot Berlin" (2014). This is also a 5 Star book. If you are flying into Berlin on business and have a day or two to explore the city as a tourist without leaving the city, then the snapshot is a great idea. If you plan on spending a whole week in Berlin, then the snapshot will give you some added details that aren't in the big book.

However, if you are touring many areas/cities in Germany, with Berlin just a 1-3 day stop, I suggest that you don't need to purchase the snapshot at all, the big book will work. The big book, on all of Germany, has 116 pages on Berlin and Next-to-Berlin (Potsdam and Sachsenhausen). The snapshot has 143 pages on Berlin and Next-to-Berlin. The snapshot has added details, spread out among the chapters, but the basic information is the same.

For example, in the first section "Tours in Berlin", the snapshot version has an added paragraph on "Free tours" that is not in the big book. This has good information (such as the recommended tip to the tour guide), but points out: "While the guides can be highly entertaining, the better ones typically move on to more serious tour companies before long. These tours are fine for poor students with little interest in real history. But as in many things, when it comes to walking tours, you get what you pay for.

We used this as our Berlin Bible and referred to it often. "What should we do now?" and "Where should we eat?" was often met with "Let's ask Rick."

Especially wonderful is the self-guided walking tour. Highly recommended. Used this book along with a Tripadvisor cityguide app and between the two, we were able to find highly recommended restaurants and walks.

Good price!! Good quality!!... I liked, it is small (thin) enough to pack and transport locally or overseas, big enough to be read as a passenger when traveling by train, airplane, bus, or car. I definetley will make my travel information package purchases at this Amazon site!! Also. delivery was before promissed by Amazon.

Excellent - we just returned from Berlin and all the information was accurate. Well worth the price - we avoided getting lost saw priority sites without wasting time.

As always, Rick Steves provided information that made our trip so much easier and more enjoyable. We enjoyed his frank comments and subtle humor.

Rick needs to include more street names. The book is useful and did help us get around, but we had some difficulties because of a lack of street names. We sometimes had a difficult time getting oriented. For example, Rick needs to say something more than, "When you're standing on the bridge," because tourists could be at different ends of the bridge standing in different directions. On p. 43 he said to "look down the river in the distance. To the right...." and we spent an enormous amount of time trying to find the spot he was referring to.

The vertical garden on Galeries Lafayette that he mentioned on p. 38 was a huge disappointment. It was more like moss growing on a wall than a vertical garden.
