Customer Reviews

I used this book in planning our family trip to Seattle.
Richard D. Gregory
This book is very thorough, the maps are excellent and it has a lot of interesting tips about the city.
Katrina
Perhaps they're just trying to stick with a format that does not work for this rather unique city.

I just don't understand what Lonely Planet is thinking. Much of this book is dedicated to drinking; I don't need a guide book for night life, even if it is an important aspect of the city. They lump coffee in with drinking, which just seems weird. There are very important things missing from their maps, including the much discussed light rail and streetcar stops (they talk a lot about how well the system works, but fail to put the stops on the maps!). There is a lot of repetitive information that lacks depth. I just don't understand the order that the information is included. Perhaps they're just trying to stick with a format that does not work for this rather unique city. This just seems poorly executed, I would highly suggest avoiding this one.

Bought this prior to my move to Seattle and it gave me SO MUCH useful info! Lots of valuable insights and answers to questions plenty of people who live here don't even know the answers to! This guide is great!

This is exactly what I was looking for. I bought a second one for my daughter as she lives there. It is a great source for ideas in and around the Seattle area.

Very pleased! I bought this book before heading off to a business trip to Seattle, so I was trying to cram in activities during the off-hours. Since I'd never been to the Seattle area before, this book helped me form my own must-do list. I agree with a previous reviewer that more guidance on where the public transportation stops are would have been helpful. Many of the suggestions in the book (e.g., the pinball museum, lenin statue) were unfamiliar to a friend who has lived in the Seattle area for many years, so I do think that the author did a nice job finding all sorts of things to do in Seattle and providing the historical background on local sights. All of the recommended restaurants that I tried were great. Reading this makes me want to check out the Lonely Planet guide to my own city.

LONELY PLANET SEATTLE is a great guide to the city of Seattle and its environs. It features a comprehensive guide to recreation, dining, nightlife, shopping, culture, and sightseeing. I own it on Kindle, and will buy the hard copy when it comes out.

Used this on our first visit to Seattle. I tabbed sections for quicker reference. The map is quite good but as a navigation tool it isn't helpful at times--hard to tell when you'll run into a dead end, and there are many of those in this city.
