I only used it for Guatemala and Belize, but the maps were terrible, outdated content even though it was published in 2013. I think I only found one place that was in the book that still exists or matched the description in the book. Shame. I won't use Lonely PLanet again for the Americas.

This book is AMAZING, don't hesitate to buy it. Maps are great though the North indicator could be more pronounced and is missing a from a couple of maps that I observed. They only other omission I noted was in the Panama history section of the book it omitted the 1989 U.S. Invasion to oust General Noriega, which seems like a fairly significant omission to me, but I fought in the invasion so I am partial. It includes what one might expect from a classic historical perspective. The survival guide for each country is also nice to see.

This is a wonderful book if all you require is maps and bus schedules. If you're a traveler and you use LP for lodging and eating recommendations, you probably haven't been traveling much in your lifetime. It says 100 percent updated and that's a 100 percent lie. I traveled to Costa Rica last winter and traveled all through Central America this winter and found that the condensed Costa Rica in the Central America is taken nearly word for word from the Costa Rica book. I met 2 different people in Belize who traveled halfway across the country because the ATM Caves on the LP map are in the completely wrong spot. That example there is enough to show the unprofessionalism of the LP staff. Do they not use editors? Also some of the writing confuses some people who speak English as their second language because the writers sometimes try to get playful and often write cutesy gibberish only a full time English speaker would understand. I have noticed this myself and have had several Europeans point it out to me. The book disappoints frequently but it still is, unfortunately the best travel guide book on the market for budget travelers in my opinion.

The content is good, however, my kindle failed so had to use the book via my iPhone Kindle app. Was very difficult for me to navigate back and forth without going to table of contents each time.
