I like pop-up books that not only show me a scene but also use the movement and three-dimensionality of pop-ups to let me explore the scene. When you open each AMERICA'S NATIONAL PARKS pop-up, you get the "Wow!" effect with each huge spread. Then you can manipulate the pop-up and peer into the nooks and crannies to find surprises, like the Florida panther lurking in the Everglades pages.
Paper engineer Bruce Foster and illustrator Dave Embers not only create spectacular scenes with a soaring Old Faithful and vertiginous Grand Canyon, they sprinkle in the little extra pop-ups like the old-fashioned touring bus emerging from a tunnel in Glacier National Park and the springtime flower show in Great Smoky Mountains.
Because this book's subject (national parks in America) is fascinating as well as beautiful, author Don Compton gives you plenty of information, both practical and interesting. AMERICA'S NATIONAL PARKS pop-up is a real keepsake.

What a wonderful educational tool to use in teaching children about their country! Let this book be the impetus for 1)annual trips to visit each of these national parks 2)learning a bit about geology and/or 3) the math and engineering skills needed to create pop-up books or cards.
p.s. Big publishing houses turned down the chance to publish this book so the creator, a 77year-old retiree from Bend, OR, did it himself.

Go out and buy this book today. For every purchase $8 goes to the National park Foundation and for the deluxe version $80 goes to the foundation. This is a beautiful book that anyone would enjoy...especially a gift for a family, parent, child....etc. My family loved reading and looking at this book. Each park that is featured pops right out at you along with flaps you can lift to read and view more items at that park. Do you love our National Parks? If so this is the book for you.
The paper is heavy and with use the pop-up will still work and amaze the reader. My children are amazed by the pages and the content of each. We have visited many of the parks in this book and now there are telling me we need to go again because they are sure they missed something. Anyone will love the way the book come to life, the pages form a vision of the parks something that will last in your mind and heart.
If you only buy one book this week, month, or year, buy this book you will not be disappointed and some of the money will go to support these beautiful parks that are our national treasures. The goal of these books is to raise $100,000 for the parks in this great country. The pop-up art is in the style of the 1030's WPA posters, you will love them!!!!

It was a true privilege to open my mail and discover an extraordinary review copy of America’s National Parks: A Pop-Up Book .Before I get into the wonders of the book, I must mention that one of the book’s main purposes is to raise money for our National Park system. For every copy of the book sold, $8 will be donated to the National Park Conservation Association (NPCA); the publisher’s goal is to raise $100,000 for this cause, but only 1,200 copies of the Deluxe Limited Edition will be produced. Each of these are numbered and autographed by the paper engineer, illustrator and author. If you wish to purchase a Limited Edition book, you can only do so on the publisher’s website.
America’s National Parks features six National Parks: 1) Everglades; 2) Great Smoky Mountains; 3) Grand Canyon; 4) Yellowstone; 5) Glacier and 6) Yosemite. The book begins with a most informative introduction to our National Parks. Did you know there are 58 National Parks and close to 400 preserved places the National Park System is responsible for protecting? Next to the intro you will find a letter from the President of the National Park Conservation Association. But the real thrill begins when you open up the first two-page pop-up spread. Here you’ll be greeted by Everglades National Park, ironically, the National Park closest to my home and my heart. The detail of the pop-up River of Grass is phenomenal, from the tree hammock to the canoe and die cut birds. There’s even a small side card that, when opened, up pops a gator and what appears to me to be a Great Blue Heron.

I am thrilled with this book in so many ways. Our nations national parks are a treasure and I am delighted someone took the time to share them in a way that is educational and visually stunning. The art work makes each park come alive in an authentic and mesmerizing way which is difficult to accomplish. A good friend of mine collects vintage posters and she loved the 1930s WPA art style.The quality of this pop up book surprised me. With such a friendly price, I was concerned the quality would be compromised. It is top notch! I would highly recommend it to all ages.
