This is actually two reviews in one - one review for everyone who does not already own the original Vault of Walt that was published back in 2010. The other review is for those fortunate people who still own the original book. First, to everyone who does not own the original book - this is a very special Disney book that is written by the most knowledgeable Disney historian I know - Jim Korkis. I have read many of Jim's numerous articles on all facets of Disney history, his various other books, and have seen several of his video presentations in front of live audiences. Jim presents his information with fact, humor, and style. Unlike some other authors of Disney books, Jim does not let any bad experiences as a former employee of the Disney Corporation creep into his writings or live presentations. He stick to the facts, avoiding gushing about how perfect Walt Disney and the Disney Company was and is - and also avoiding demonizing every action by Walt or the company. I love that Jim shares many Disney stories that I have never heard before, many told with humor. He verifies or debunks the numerous "urban legends" about Disney, but he will clearly indicate when there are no facts to prove or disprove a rumor. This book is in 5 sections: Stories about Walt Disney, stories about the Disney films, stories about the Disney parks, "other worlds" stories about miscellaneous Disney, and info on Song Of The South - with answers to frequently asked questions. This last section refers to Jim's other recently published book "Who's Afraid Of Song Of The South ...", which I have also reviewed. Most people with any interest in Walt Disney and the Disney Company over the years will be entertained and amused by this book.Read more ›

Here's what I said about the first edition: "A selection of great little stories by a Disney insider & historian, this book is a must read for any Disney fan. Altho not all the stories are G rated, and many are "behind the scenes", the stories are not exploitative or "Mouse-bashing" as too many other books in this genre are. Still, the truth is there, warts and all.

Many will bring a smile to your face, or a song to your heart.

If there are any complaints, I'd say that a little heavier hand in editing might have helped things flow a bit more smoothly.

Still, I really enjoyed this book, and if you are a true Disney fan, you will too. "

And this book, with it's added material is even better. There's a foreword by Diane Disney Miller, Walt Disney's daughter and five new subjects with about 40 pages of extra goodness. Mind you, most of the material is already published in the earlier edition.

Now this brings up a quandary: if you already own Vault of Walt (say that five times fast) do you want to get this edition with the extra stuff? Well, I did, and I was happy with it. But I am a super Disney fan.

Most readers will just want to get this, the newest edition and not buy both.

I first discovered Jim Korkis through Lou Mongello's WDW Radio podcast. Jim has been embedded in the Disney family for most of his adult life and has acquired a great deal of Disney knowledge in that time. The various roles he has played on and off stage would make him a dangerous adversary in a round of Disney trivia. And the thing that drove me to get this book for my Kindle is the way Jim presents his facts. He makes them come alive. He is an honest-to-goodness storyteller.

Thanks, Lou, for turning me on to Jim, his wonderful stories, and this amazing book about Walt !

If you are a fan of Walt, this book is a "must" read. Stories based on interviews with those who knew him. I've been a Disney fanatic for my entire life, and learning about Walt and his life has been a great experience.

This is a fact-filled, anecdote-filled collection of stories about Walt Disney, his staff, his studio, his television show and Disneyland. (Plus Disney World and all the rest...) This is endorsed by Walt's daughter and is NOT deconstructionism. The author is obviously a fan of the entire operation and his book is filled with little-known information. I enjoyed every word!
