I purchased this book in preparation for a two-week vacation to Greece. Normally, I shun the picture-laden guides and go with the dense, text heavy ones, like Lonely Planet; however, I was surprised at the amount of help that DK Eyewitness’s Travel Guide for Greece Athens & the Mainland provided. The pull-out map of Athens was a lifesaver during our navigation of an unfamiliar city in a country that uses a non-Latin alphabet (my girlfriend and I are both native English speakers).
Despite my prejudices, DK Eyewitness did a great job of providing information about Athens in particular and traveling in Greece in general. The photography was excellent and helped us to narrow down our must-see attractions. We did additional research online to complement the information in the book, but the Eyewitness Travel Guide did a great job of giving us a launching point for our trip-planning.
I also purchased DK Eyewitness Travel Guide: The Greek Islands for that leg of the trip; my review of that book will be on its product page.
