For the modern traveler looking for a concise guide to Scotland, "Eyewitness Travel Top Ten Scotland" might be it. In just 160 pages, newly updated for 2013, this guide focuses on the very best that Scotland has to offer, in a format loaded with pictures, maps, graphics, minimal text, and plenty of website addresses for further research.
"Top Ten Scotland" shares some information in common with the longer and more detailed "DK Eyewitness Scotland Guide", but has its own format, tightly focused on the priorities of the busy traveler. The guide offers the ten best things to see in all of Scotland, then drills down to a variety of additional top ten lists by region and by category. Among the categories are castles, formal gardens, fishing spots, golf courses, distilleries, traditional Highland events, attractions for children, restaurants, and some best-kept secrets. Other categories include best museums, best long distance hiking trails, and best Munro's (mountains) to climb.
The guide does include some practical information on when and how to go to Scotland, and how to get around once you get there. It's nicely organized, heavily illustrated, and very portable. "Top Ten Scotland" is highly recommended as a minimalist guide to the traveler who prefers his or her information fast and furious.

I ALWAYS take Eyewitness guides with me when traveling...I adore them.... learn so much, appreciate the culture. I have been waiting and waiting for Eyewitness for Kindle as my ONLY complaint is that the books are quite heavy...and I have to tear them apart to take with me the section that applies to the place I am traveling to. This is the first Kindle book i have purchased and I am quite disappointed! Where are the amazing 3D s of the streets of Edinburgh or the red dotted line walking tours?? Where are the cross sections of the Castles or Cathedrals? All the things I love about Eyewitness are lacking. The information is there, but without the amazing visual material, it is just another travel guide.

I have traveled to over 3 dozen countries both in the military and now after my 20 years in the Navy. Every port we visited was enhanced by this book series. My wife loves them now as we visit more places. Fits well in your pocket, has realistic agendas, and great maps. I personally used this city book on vacation and give it 5 stars.

I only had a weekend in Glasgow and this book made sure I saw the best bits! This was my first of this series but not my last. I loved Glasgow, much in part because of this book. It helped me pick what I wanted to see, and gave me a bit of history with it. I only had a weekend in Glasgow, but it was enough to make me want to see the rest of Scotland soon, so I am hanging on to this book for that return visit!

I always use Top 10 guides when we travel (which we do a lot), & they are the best. Our trip to Scotland was fantastic, and the guide was very useful. They give you what you need at a glance, yet enough information to make your trip perfect. I have never had a bad meal eating at the restaurants they recommend. Recommend strongly!!!
