Series Editor Jill Norman speaks several languages and has traveled widely. Jill also created the Penguin Cookery Library in the 1960s and 1970s, bringing many first-class authors to the list. She has since become a Glenfiddich Trophy winner in her own right, and is a leading authority on the use of herbs and spices. She is the literary trustee of the Elizabeth David estate, and worked with Mrs. David for many years.

This book is one of four books, which I have, in similar updated new editions for: the Penguin Spanish, French, Italian, and German, Phrasebooks. The four books in this series are very similar, which is a help to any student or tourist comparing the four languages. That was my buying decision here.
Book has no color print, no photographs, no heavy paper (they note recycle or such paper). Cover is as shown on Amazon with drawings. Paper inside has the pulp-like look to me. But the print is compact readable, not tiny.
Book width just fits in my safari shirt's very large chest pockets: book width is about 4.37 inches wide, while book is 6.25 inches tall, and 1 inch thick. Thus, some buyers might prefer either a larger longer more phrases book with color or a more narrow smaller-pocket-size book. Or have a rather large 4.37 inch wide pocket.
Book is selective by topic such as Bank or Hotel phrases.
Book is a basic ok selective help.

Love this book! Especially for the price, it's extremely helpful and easy to understand. In 5 minutes I was speaking French phrases. I also bought the Portuguese book, and it's equally as helpful and easy to understand. I would highly recommend this line of books to anyone who travels a lot or who is trying to learn a language. These books are much easier to understand than other language books I've bought in the past. And you can't beat the price.
