My wife and I found this guide very useful for exploring Kauai. The book has very good details on places to hike, bike, snorkel etc and details about what to expect. The book is well organized by region of the island and has several useful indexes to quickly find things to do or places to go. We didn't use any of the food recommendations, etc from the guide. Yelp is more current and the better way to go for the best places to eat out.

We're just back from our second visit to Kauai and the Big Island of Hawaii after a 7 year absence. We chose the Kauai Trailblazer book since it covers so many hikes which my wife and I do to unwind. What we found this time were a whole lot of places a few paces off the standard tourist track. Their take on Kauai is different from all the other guides since it mainly lists all the freebie adventure possibilities. Getting on the trails and snorkeling costs zero and since they put alot of detail in their directions like round trip distance and difficulty it saved us precious vacation time. We got alot of mileage out of it.
The writing is clear and the color section spectacular. We didn't notice the Best Of section at first but once we got there we referred to it constantly. Their picks on where to snorkel in certain areas were the BEST and even knowing where to enter the water and check for outgoing currents was valuable. A super purchase for a much needed vacation in paradise.

We found Kauai to be the most beautiful island of all. This guide is insightful, lively and contains all the necessary trail information, very clear and organized with full page maps that kept us oriented. It made itinerary planning a cinch and we devoted a half day to hiking every day. Everything was just as they described. Most books don't point out the possible dangers out in the water and along the trails. This one prepares you for them all.
The guide is subdivided into geographic areas and the stops list all the activities possible - just like the title says - hikes, snorkels, bike rides, kayaking, surfing - you choose. Each area has its own personality and the authors go into detail characterizing each. We knew the North Shore was for us just looking at the pictures.
Our trip was a huge success.

For the traveller going to Kauai (one of the most beautiful places on Earth) for daily excursions that include hiking, biking, snorkeling, etc. this is the only book you need. We used it daily back in December for everything, including the information that was non-excursion related (eating, town info, etc.). This book came back stained by the red dirt/mud of Kauai, need I say more?!
Looking forward to buying future editions with updated information as trails and beaches changes.
Kudos to the authors for putting a truly usable piece of work together for visitors to this island.

My husband and I went to Kauai for the first time on our Honeymoon. This book was a great reference. We love adventure and were able to find all kinds of activities and navigate the island in our rental car. We would have missed out on so much of the island without this book.

January trip was all things all wonderful with the help of this guidebook. Turn by turn driving directions with the aid of the yellow mile markers on the road and their maps in the book were relied on entirely for navigation. We didn't know we'd need so much advice until we got there. It rained a few days but the Trailblazer supplied all the options.

I also really like The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook.
I haven't left yet but feel that this book includes lots of great information if you are planning on getting out and exploring the island.
It includes a list of all trailheads on the Island and great info on how to get there, etc..
