THIS two star rating pertains only to the e-book--there is no "content" page, so one has no information as to what is in the book. Consequently, one cannot easily find on which page there is information on different locations in New Zealand. I read the first 60 pages, although repetitive at times in advice, I think the book might be a terrific resource but without a table of contents, as an ebook, it is nearly useless.

I read travel guide books for a variety of reasons. Primarily I’ll buy a guide book so that I don’t go to the local library to buy a raincoat. I’ll tip it off easily enough that I’m a tourist because I walk looking up and bump into other people and buildings. And then I’ll get a travel book for the pictures – pretty waterfalls, nice mountains, gorgeous local beauties, etc. Rarely do I expect more than that from a travel guide. Then I ran across Ron Laughlin’s "Visitor’s Guide to Driving in New Zealand 2014: by the travel guru of New Zealand," and I realized there was another reason to buy this book – the good writing. Laughlin knows his way around a keyboard and writes with an authority and homey tone, that you feel as though the info is coming from a relative. Nooks, crannies, and in between are Laughlin’s specialties and whether you go to New Zealand or not, read this book and you’ll convince everyone you lived there for a few years.

This is an outstanding travel guide for those who have never seen New Zealand, and for those who think they've seen it all. It takes you to well known areas and to places that are hidden treasures that only the locals are aware of. It's layout is easy to follow. A must have for those who want the most out of their experiences in this enchanted country. We would suggest it highly to tourists and native Kiwi's who want to see all the nooks and crannies of this breathtaking wonderland.

I first read Ron Laughlin's guides in 2008 when preparing for my first New Zealand adventure, On that trip I chose a camper van and Ron's advise was invaluable when it came to tips on where to stay what to see. I came back two years later and had the opportunity to spend some time with Ron. Unique only begins to describe him. I 100% endorse his latest. And even better, contact him for the real inside scoop.

My wife and I visited New Zealand and used this guide during our trip around the south Island. It gave us all the information we needed to make our trip memorable along with some great tips to help us along the way. I can highly recommend this book.
