While there are many books on the Paris Metro - including some major books in French - none has really captured the magic of the world's best Metro and a major feature of the City. Many are bona fide history books or well written personal accounts by English-speaking visitors that lack illustrations. The present volume is a semi definitive work produced in collaboration with RATP and is a wonderful addition to Parisien guides. Semi- for the purist - refers to the fact that only 145 of the 300 stations are covered but these are probably the most relevant and are covered well. Each station organized by line (1-14) includes a location map, a potted history of the station, a small map of the area and some sights, restaurants etc. The authors have done an absolutely splendid job - at least based on the many Metro stations I am familiar with - to the extent that a read through this book is probably the next best thing to a Metro ticket. The book is well produced, nicely illustrated and printed, and has that European flair with a durable flexicover. A must for anyone visiting Paris - whether for the first time or the 100th. Great job Editions du Chene - any chance of a definitive Edition with all 300 stations?

Took it on my recent trip to Paris, where I paid special attention to all the Metro stations I traveled on. Next trip to Paris, I want to try and travel on ALL of the Metros with this book in hand.

I bought the French version while in Paris - the information and details are that good. It's wonderful to see an English edition on offer. The maps are terrific and I particularly love the architectual drawings. This is an essential guide to make getting around Paris a whiz!

Having visited Paris many times this is a new way to explore the various metro stops. Maybe not for the first time traveler but for the experienced - great.

Bonus full sized Paris Metro maps that are easy to follow and navigate are oh so awesome. However, the rteal treasure is in being able to know line by metro line the highlights, sights, monuments, special highlights that are to be found on each line, in each direction and at each metro station along the line. I am on my way to Paris (3rd time) in two weeks. with the help of this great little well illustrated and easy to follow jewel, I have identified 3-4 famous sights (museums, castles, etc that I have long wanted to visit. This great little book showed me exactly which metro lines and metro stations will take me to each one. I cannot wait for my journey to begin! Every who plans to visit Paris, France would do well to take this little (only in size) book along with them!!!

If you can't afford to travel to Paris, you can enjoy it vicariously by reading this book. You will ride the metro, enjoy 140 of the 300 metro stops in the City of Light. The next best thing to being in Paris will be reading and being transported around my favorite city. Avoir!

This is the perfect guide to Paris for transit-obsessed visitors. Every line (not counting 3bis and 7bis) is covered. It doesn't have every station on the metro, but all the major ones and (I believe) gives at least a rendezvous for all the metro stations in zone 1. It is arranged by line, but has indices by station name and points of view. RER isn't covered separately.
