This had most of the phrases I needed and it was nice to have the symbols as well as phonetic pronunciation. I was able to show the phrases to those who didn't understand what I was saying and problem solved!

I liked this book a lot. It wasn't what I was expecting, but I ended up really liking the format, how it was organized, the culture tips and fun local phrases. As in all phrase books and dictionaries I found out along the way during the trip what people "really" say versus the formalities of what the book says, and there is no way from a book to really understand or be able to properly iterate the tonal aspect of the Thai language correctly. But all in all I got out of this book what I wanted and wish I had had time before we left to learn some of the phrases well enough to not need the book so often!

This phrasebook is packed with useful phrases and vocab that served me very well on a recent stay in Thailand, and helped me do and get exactly what I wanted.
My only complaint is the bizarre romanization system. Case in point: "aa" for the sound best romanized as "ae" (the "a" in "cat"). Why not use "aa" to represent the long-a sound instead. And that's just the start! I actually had to look at the Thai script to ensure I was pronouncing the words properly.
Five points for utility, deducting one point for the silly romanization scheme.
