At first I was disappointed in the tiny blurry black and white photos. And the paper is cheap though thick. But it is so well written, I have come to enjoy it and think it is a much better guidebook than others I have read on Italy. He really seems to know the locals and their recent history and gives great insights, plus his writing is very good and not cliche. I like the way the book is arranged and the maps seem helpful. So many times I read guidebooks that seem written by people in a rush who don't really get to know the locals. For someone like me who is staying in Liguria and has been there before, this is a nice little guide to carry with me so I can select places to see over a few days. I was there in 2011 just before the flood and particularly liked reading about how the locals suffered and rebuilt. I wish he would add a few pages of nice color photos even if it makes the book a little more expensive.

A good, short summary of the Cinque Terre region. However, if you purchase Rick Steves' "Italy" guide book, this snapshot is a chapter from that book, word for word. So ... If you get the "Italy" guide book, don't buy this. If you don't get his "Italy" guide book and you are interested in visiting the Cinque Terre then buy this guide.

We just used Steves' Cinque Terre on our trip there - it was a great help. I will say that train travel from Nice has become more complicated since this was written - but his recommendations about walking paths, boat travel, restaurants, and rooms were right on!! In fact, we took his recommendation for rooms - FRANKOMARIA - and found them to be just perfect - those rooms made our trip. Franko and Maria were extremely helpful and their rooms were exquisite in every detail - overlooking the Vernazza main plaza - just what we wanted.

This book has everything you want to know about Cinque Terre including the little details. Helpful in planning our lodging and hopefully will be helpful in finding places to eat when we're there.

The Cinque Terre is a gorgeous part of Italy with very colorful homes yet there are hardly any pictures, never mind colored ones. The guide is extremely redundant and doesn't hold your interest! All the other Italy books are far superior in every way!

I found it hard to find good books on the CT. Not so with this Rick Steves book. If you like Rick's other books then you'll like this one as well. Very well written. I recommend this book.
