Raised in rural Somerset, Luke Waterson developed a penchant for travelling at an early age and, following completion of an English Literature and Creative Writing degree at the University of East Anglia, duly set forth to travel the world. With a particular passion for the Americas (he's travelled across the lot of them - north, central and south - overland and for Eastern Europe (he's currently living in Slovakia) Luke writes for Lonely Planet, Avalon Travel Publishing, BBC Travel and a clutch of in-flight magazines.
Great guide to find things in rural areas. Ecuador roads are changing. Get the most recent guide book so you can find your way more easily. We rented a car in Quito and drove 1600 km using this book continually. I liked it a lot. Also get a GPS ...

As expected. Not as updated as I would have liked. Did not have the new airport information for Quito. That's two years old and this is supposed to be 2013 edition.

Lots of good information on what to see, where to stay, and where to eat. I like the specifics of what to expect things to cost. I have two other guides and like how they are in agreement.

Great pictures. Simply written to understand and right to the point. It is not full of filler information and makes a call on how much value there is at places.

This is a fantastic picture book that will give you a clear sense of Ecuadorian culture and the sights you have to look forward to. My husband is very visual and really enjoyed being able to browse through this to help with our planning. It really made us excited about the trip. However, I think it is a little bit thin on actual content. The recommendations were good, but I didn't feel that I was getting a good representation of what was really available, especially related to lodging, transportation, etc. I will say that it worked beautifully as a companion to another, content heavy, tour book.

This is a great book if you know nothing about the country and our planning to go there. We learned a lot of fun facts that we did not know before. It was pretty cool to read it.
