About the Author

Rick Steves has spent 100 days every year since 1973 exploring Europe. Rick produces a public television series (Rick Steves' Europe), a public radio show (Travel with Rick Steves), and a podcast (Rick Steves' Audio Europe); writes a bestselling series of guidebooks and a nationally syndicated newspaper column; organizes guided tours that take thousands of travelers to Europe annually; and offers an information-packed website (ricksteves.com). With the help of his hardworking staff of 70 at Europe Through the Back Door—in Edmonds, Washington, just north of Seattle—Rick's mission is to make European travel fun, affordable, and culturally broadening for Americans.

Gene Openshaw is a writer, composer, tour guide, and lecturer on art and history. Specializing in writing walking tours of Europe's cultural sights, Gene has co-authored eight of Rick's books and contributes to Rick's public television series. As a composer, Gene has written a full-length opera (Matter), a violin sonata, and dozens of songs. He lives near Seattle with his daughter, and roots for the Mariners in good times and bad.

All of his books are very detailed, easy to use, and easy to understand.

Frommer's even recommended just looking at and not even going into the Louvre in their "Best in one day" section.
Tracy Gillespie
He always has great places to visit and recommendations on where to eat and stay.

Great Guide for Brussels, Brugge, and Ghent. This is the quientessential Rick Steves volume with great tips on arriving, what to see and what to avoid. Rick's walking tour and detailed descriptions of various museums are better than the guides that are printed at the museum itself. Spent the weekend in Brugge, and it was my constant companion. Be sure to check out the updates from ricksteves.com for any last minute changes to the book.

This was a really great guide! I had never heard of him as I had always used Frommers, etc in the past. Apparently he is the go to guy as everyone else I met referenced him and his books. It was really great to be able to access this on my tablet and phone while sightseeing! Great recommendations and guide!

My wife and I stayed in Ghent and day tripped to Bruges and Bussels. The book was very informative and helpful to hit a lot the sites quickly. I would suggest a secondary map for navigation. If you are going to Bruges I would definitely suggest a hot air balloon ride. It was our favorite activity in Belgium.

I read this guide before taking a business trip to Brussels. I had previously used a Rick Steves guide when I visited Italy for a week with my boyfriend, with great results. Since I was only planning to be in Belgium for one weekend, I wanted to make sure I got the most out of the trip. Rick Steves did not disappoint! He has great suggestions for activities in each of Belgium's major cities.

I would highly recommend this book!

I love the small size of this book, with just the information we needed for Bruges and Ghent (we tore out the other pages), rather than buying a bigger book with lots of other places we were not going to.

I became comfortable with the city even before arriving. I found all the advice to be good and fun to read as well. We used his restaurant advice and had one of the best seafood meals evervv

Just returned from a 16 day trip to Bruges and Germany. We used the book to find a hotel in Bruges and were very satisfied with the booking. We are a retired couple who enjoy traveling off season and found the listings for activities and museums very helpful. Did find quite a few of the hotels full when we were attempting to make reservations a few days ahead of our visit. I would recommend that you book hotels ahead if you go during a busy time of the travel season.

As always Rick Steves travel gives you all the practical information. I did the trip on my own with this guide as my bible.
