I was looking for a comprehensive train guide to the whole European system. What I got was a guide for the person who wants to know how to see what the authors consider worthy of visiting. I was mistaken thinking this was a guide to the entire system with schedules and some advice like that. However, that aside if you are looking for some ideas, a lot of good information on the rail system, this is a worthwhile purchase.

This would be a fantastic book if nearly 95% of the info it contains was not available for free on the internet (and I'm not implying illegally obtaining the info). That said, some people may want the information in printed form that they can carry with them while they travel. If so, then it may be worth the purchase.

Bought this book when I was still planning to add Germany and Belgium to my trip to the UK. It's full of information, hints, things to avoid, how to read trail schedules in different countries, etc. Now I know the UK doesn't participate in Eurail passes, etc., so I'll tuck this book away for my next trip, when I'll devote more time to central Europe.

This was exceptionally helpful I spent the summer traveling with my 3 month Eurail pass. I visited England, Ireland, Spain, Switzerland, Holland, France, and Sweden. The information was extremely helpful. The exception was England who have their own rail passes and Spain where I got stuck for 5 days because of a French rail strike. There is no way out of Spain by rail without going through France. I ended up buying a plane ticket from Barcelona to Zurich. BUT remember to make seat reservation early and avoid making reservations that include breakfast at your seat. The food is ot worth the price. Buy a basket and bring your own wine, bread and cheese. You will make new friends when you share it with them. If you get stuck as I was by a strike. Relax and enjoy your extened stay in a new city.
