About the Author

Patricia Harris and David Lyon drove almost every twisting mountain road as they researched three previous Frommer's guidebooks about Spain. As much as they enjoy the countryside, they find themselves inexorably drawn to the great cities of Madrid and Barcelona, where Spanish life and culture are writ large. Founders of HungryTravelers.com, they have a deep appreciation for the perfect codfish croqueta, an honest plate of patatas bravas, or a heap of peel-and-eat-garlic shrimp, ideally consumed at an outdoor table in one of Barcelona's ancient squares or at the crowded bar in a Madrid taberna. They write about travel, food, wine, spirits and contemporary art for journals as varied as the Robb Report, the Boston Globe and Westways. They reside in Boston, MA.

Quite possibly the only travel guide you’ll ever need for Spain! Comprehensive—it covers all the major regions of the country from Andalucia to Valencia as well as Spain’s delightful coastal areas and islands. But organized—it breaks the touring experience into manageable bite-sized pieces depending on the length of your stay and your interests. This latest edition from the Frommer series is an indispensable planning tool if this is your first trip to Spain, but also holds the keys to the kinds of secret places (like the church in Alfaro where more than 400 storks nest!) and special events (like the Cordoba Patio Festival) it could take years to discover on your own.

The authors' enthusiasm for Spain is really infectious. I especially like the fact that they cover everything from royal palaces to hole-in-the-wall tapas bars with equal attention and candor. (They always seem to know just the right thing to order.) The layout of the book and the clarity of the entries makes it really easy to plan how to spend my time most wisely.

In his other books, trips were broken down for fewer days.

This book gave an overview of things to do, but it was not very accurate or up-to-date, even though it is the 2015 version. We used the book for our trip to Madrid and surrounding cities. We repeatedly found that the information in the book was wrong, and we were happy that we had enough Spanish language skills to figure things out. For example, the book sent us to one location in Madrid for a tour, but when we got there, we learned from a police officer that the tour had not been offered in at least four years. In Toledo, the book said that something was free admission, when admission was really 8 euro. When we were looking to take a day trip, the book said that there were 30 minute trains, but those trains did not exist (there were only trains that took one hour of travel time). For another tour in Madrid, the book said that it was only in Spanish and you had to wait until there were enough guests for the tour to begin; however, when we arrived, we learned that the tours were offered in English and Spanish and scheduled throughout the day so that you could buy a ticket in advance but we had to buy a later ticket because the earlier tours were all booked. We were very disappointed that we could not even use this book to broadly plan our travel because it had so much incorrect information. If you are looking for some broad ideas of things to do, you could consider buying this book, but be very prepared to do a lot of your own research to determine if the hours, prices, or even availability are anywhere close to what is represented in the book.

Can't wait to read this book through. Used Frommer's England for our two weeks in England in the summer. It was a real asset. Found lodging for us. The other information was equally important for our day trips outside of London. We found their attraction guides helpful and we avoided some that weren't worth the effort. We are off to Spain in the Spring and I know this book will save us money and guide us on our way.
