Robert Ullian was educated at Amherst College and Columbia University. His work has appeared in publications ranging from Mademoiselle and Esquire to the Boston Phoenix. A recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts grant in fiction, he is the author of guidebooks on Israel, Bali, Morocco as well of coauthor of Frommer's Venice Walking Tours and Frommer's Israel Past and Present. He divides his time between Israel and Amherst, MA.
The EasyGuide concept is interesting. While I appreciate the small, light book, be aware that sacrifices were made to keep it slim. For instance, it doesn't seem to have information on any towns or cities in the Negev beyond Eilat (though weirdly enough they make space to describe Petra, which is a wonderful thing to see, but of course, not in Israel). Also, there is no index. Personally, I'm supplementing this with other guidebooks (Fodor's and the Lonely Planet), which I already own older versions of.
On the other hand the writing is concise but entertaining, and this will probably be the book I take with me on the trip.
My suggestion for making guidebooks light enough to carry easily? Leave out information on hotels, putting them in a separate volume or making the information available online. Don't must of us make the reservations before we go? I'd rather just carry around a book that tells me where to eat and what to see. For me, after I am done planning the trip, the guidebook is something I mostly use for reading up on sites as I encounter them.
One positive thing I will mention about the book: The typeface is quite readable. This might matter to some potential buyers who are getting the printed book.

I just returned from a week and a half trip to Israel and really loved this book. We stayed one week in Jerusalem and a few days in Tel Aviv and the book was spot on in its recommendations for restaurants. We ate like kings. We also found two great hotels through the book. But where the book shines is in its erudite, but fun to read descriptions of the historic sites you see. All over, I kept reading the book out loud to the friend I was traveling with. We also thought that the in-chapter indexes worked fine. I preferred them to having an index in the back of the book.

Just got back from Israel. Frommer's guide was spot on and up-to-date relevant!! Everything from hotels to restaurants to what to see and do was absolutely correct. It was also the perfect guide because of its compact, easy to carry around size. This was my best experience with a guide book and I have traveled all over the world.

I thought this was very good overall but disappointed that there were no pictures or better maps to help identify what you wanted to see or recognize what was described.

Couldn't get past the lack of index....a fatal flaw! So we are on our bus approaching Caesarea Maritima, or Mount Carmel, or Jericho, or Bethany, or Masada, or Tiberias, or you name it. So I pull out my Frommers to study up on what I am about to see.... And I can't find the write up at all. No alphabetical index. Totally useless! I get that Frommer's advertises itself as the most light-weight, compact, portable, etc - but without an alphabetical index it is useless. That said, when I succeeded in locating the write-up on the appropriate site, it was accurate, clear and helpful.
