We travel a fair bit for my husband's work and other reasons, and I always choose the Top 10 books if they are available. The format makes it easy to see which attractions are most compelling. There is usually an overall top 10 and then a top 10 by category or geographical area. They are just easy-to-use. Also, they generally have very good maps, and I am directionally impaired, so I use them. This New Orleans book is great.

If it's your first time to NOLA, then this is the book for you. New Orleans is a beautiful city with rich, visible history. I've been there several times and just returned last week. After a few times, you can venture out on your own tour. Until then, this book will be a great resource. I like the Top 10 books by DK Publishing. I bought one for Chicago as well. They're quick, easy reads and fit nicely in your purse or tote bag. I like to travel alone and these books are great.

Somehow in the product description and reviews I missed how small this book is. It is tiny. (I guess that explains why it's less expensive!) It would easily fit in a large-ish jacket pocket, it's thin and doesn't weigh much. There's a laminated pull out map that fits into a little plastic pocket in the book jacket. The detailed French Quarter map has the main sites marked, and looks like it would be helpful, but the map of the whole city seems too small to be much use.
For walking around the city, this would be a great book to carry around. For planning ahead and driving outside the French Quarter, I think something more substantial would be needed.
