To anyone considering this book, I would suggest doing some research beforehand as this is a basic vocabulary/phrase book. After purchasing this book, I realized there was an advanced version by the same author. Although not an entire waste of money, the contents are limited. At the same time, to have an actual written dictionary of the Kreyol vocabulary is an accomplishment on its own.

I was very happy to find this dictionary for sale. It seems that most Haitian Creole dictionaries are somewhat dated and this one was actually a newer version which is important as Haitian Creole has been evolving over the past decade or so... It is very neat, compact and easy to use. At the end of the actual dictionary part of the book they include a phrasebook section that is organized well and helpful for putting together conversations and even looking at the grammar of sentences in Creole. All in all I was very satisfied with this purchase and have found it very helpful to me in my study of Haitian Creole.

I got this to replace Wally Turnbull's dictionary in the back of Creole Made Easy. I like the small size but find it endlessly frustrating because it never seems to have the word I am looking for. Invariably I have had to dig out Turnbull's work to get a word. Buy it for the pocket size but realize that it doesn't work as a sole source for working Creole.
For example, this morning I needed to say, "The floor is slippery would you please mop it?" pretty basic. Well there was nothing for "floor" nothing for "mop" and nothing for "slippery". Fortunately, I found them all in "Spoken Haitian Creole" by Marc Prou a book I will review in the future. BTW I sold my Turnbull book to an aid worker who had no dictionary so I no longer have his wonderful dictionary.

This was a very informative dictionary/phrase book. I already had the dictionary but this phrase book is a plus for anyone wanting to speak and learn more Haitian Creole. Sent in timely manner.

We bought this for help communicating with our adopted child. A waste of money for any adoptive parent/child relationahip. It is missing what I would think are many basic human feelings and basic needs. I can not imagine a "tourist" or mission worker going to Haiti finding this book helpful either.

I already had a vocabulary of about 500 words before I purchased this pocket dictionary which I use *all the time.* If you have a basic understanding of Kreyol and are not looking to translate word-for-word, this book can be a tremendous help.
My Haitian friends also think it's terrific . . . so much so that I left my copy with them on my last trip and had to buy a new one for myself when I got home.

I purchased this book as a reference for a recent trip to rural Haiti. I speak French, but wanted to be able to learn some Creole as well. This book has a bit of everything, a good introduction to grammar, a two-way dictionary, and a phrase book.
After a week, I was able to have simple conversations and generate interview questions in Creole. My new Haitian friends also enjoyed the book as a reference for their English. My only criticism is there are some words I could not find in the dictionary, but the portability and ease of use make up for this limitation. If you plan on working in Haiti, this book is a must.

This is must-have for anyone traveling to Haiti. This has a dictionary as well as phrases needed in various situations: traveling, restaurants, greetings, etc. I kept this in my backpack at all times when I was in Haiti and used it often. While the dictionary is not complete, it has a lot of useful words in it.
