"If you are lucky enough to have a trip to Paris in your travel plans this year, Christina Henry de Tessan's "Forever Paris" is a petite book you might want to tuck into your carry-on bag." San Diego Union-Tribune
About the Author
Christina Henry de Tessan is the editor-at-large of the City Walks series, and the author of several travel books and decks on cities including Paris, London, and New York. She lives in Portland, Oregon.
Christina has worked in publishing for fifteen years, toiling away as both an in-house editor (Chronicle Books, Seal Press, Night + Day city guides) and a freelance writer before joining Girl Friday Productions, a boutique editorial and writing firm. On any given day, Christina may find herself editing a historical novel, generating snappy copy for a corporate website, writing a travel piece about one of her favorite cities, or doing market research for a client's book proposal. She loves all aspects of the book business--writing, editing, research, reading, and, of course, other people who share her passion for words. Originally from San Francisco, she enjoyed stints in Seattle and Paris before finally landing in the foodie-hipster mecca of Portland, Oregon, where she lives with her husband and two energetic sons. She loves indulging in dim sum in San Francisco, dress-shopping in Brooklyn, late-night book-browsing at Powells in Portland, and doing just about anything in Paris.
On a recent six day trip to Paris we found this slim little volume to be a wonderful guide to some memorable walks. The directions were clear, the maps well laid out, and the accompanying text is concise enough to read while on the walk. There are many books with walks, and we had them all including Rick Steves and the Knopf city guide, but we kept going back to this book. Highly recommended.

I really love this book. I came across it right before our last trip to Paris. We had a short stay planned there before continuing our journey and my fiance and I both know Paris fairly well. This book was the perfect tool to discover Paris beyond the usual tourist attractions. We had a limited amount of time and we both love Hemingway so we decided to follow his Paris. So much fun!!! It was a bit cold but there were enough cafe along the way to grab a drink. Our stop at La Cloiserie des Lilas was so charming an the mojitos were delicious! The book is really good quality and the facts along with the map are quite interesting. I also like the fact that it is the perfect size to travel with. No doubt I will take it with me again next time and I am looking forward to take other walks (Balzac and Hugo are on my list). I would highly recommend it to my friends and anybody who would like to discover Paris the way everybody should...walking and taking in the beauty and history of the city!

Last time I went to Paris, I took this book and had a great time following Henry de Tessan's book around the city. I felt like an insider, stopping in at Hemingway's favorite cafe, looking at Balzac's notebooks at a small museum, checking out where Rodin lived as a child, going to Saint Laurent's usual restaurant for a drink. The author includes metro stops, addresses, and a map for each walking path, so it was easy to follow. It's small enough to easily tuck in a backpack or purse.
This book captures the city's sense of romance and history perfectly, guiding readers through the haunts of some of Paris's most famous residents. The author gives some background about each person, then describes a walking path through their neighborhoods. I recommend this book for any visitors to the city who want to see beneath the tourist veneer to see the "real" Paris of history, artistry, and romance, and to walk in the footsteps of some of its most famous residents!

This was a very fun way to discover Paris when you prefer to be outdoors rather than in long lines and in museums. The bios on each person were interesting and insightful. We loved the Hemingway walk.

There are 25 stories about 25 different individuals that either lived in Paris or have an association with Paris. If you buy this prior to going to Paris you can use it as the walking guide as it was intended. I didn't read it until after visiting Paris, but still thoroughly enjoyed reliving all of the places the book describes. The book provides great maps and directions and even tells you which metro stops to use, which is the ONLY way to truly get around Paris.
This book helped me remember just how great Paris was/is and how much I want to go back. Highly recommended.

With my trip to Paris coming up...I am working on "knowing" the map of the city and the metro stops. This is a great book with little tidbits of information that can be read in short blasts and then digested...not the over wordiness of some guide books.
