About the Author
Dave Marx is the cofounder and Publisher of PassPorter Travel Press. With Jennifer Marx he has co-authored 28 PassPorter guidebooks and contributed to or co-authored numerous books about America Online and the Internet. He discovered Disneyland in 1975, the Walt Disney World Resort in 1997 and first cruised with Disney in October 1999. He's since cruised with Disney 18 more times, including the Christening of the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy Inaugural, and has sailed with three other cruise lines. Dave grew up in northeast New Jersey, where he could watch the grand cruise ships depart from their Hudson River piers, and now lives in Michigan.
Jennifer Marx grew up in Michigan, where you can stand anywhere within the state and be less than six miles from a lake, river, or stream. Her shipboard experiences include two weeks aboard a sailboat as a crew member and nine months working aboard the sternwheeler "Michigan" on Lake Biwa, Japan. Her first Disney Cruise Line adventure lasted just three nights in October 1999, and since then has spent more than three months at sea with Disney. Her most noteworthy cruises include the Disney Magic's eastbound Panama Canal crossing in August 2005, a 2006 Mediterranean cruise researching Disney's 2007 Mediterranean visit, and the Christening and Maiden Voyages of the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy Inaugural. This book has very thorough coverage of the Disney Cruise Line in general, written by people that have experience with the different types of cruises. One of the most helpful sections is the coverage of shore excursions. Having taken several Disney cruises myself I have found that (even with Disney) they can be hit or miss. The authors go on the excursions and provide feedback or they interview others to get a rating for each excursion. It helps significantly in terms of maximizing the use of your time while on the cruise. They discuss the layouts of the boats, how to get to and from the terminals, where to stay before embarking, how and what to pack, etc. There is not really any topic that is not covered in some detail. I would recommend this to anyone looking at going on a Disney cruise and wanting a "refresher" course or any first time cruiser.

Provides the most comprehensive coverage of Disney Cruise lines that I have seen.
Was disappointed that 2013 issue had so very little new information over 2012. I would not purchase a new one if I had less than 5 years old.

This is by far the BEST guidebook on the subject of Disney Cruises. As a novice cruiser, I was intimidated when planning my cruise. But this book covers everything I need to know: Itinerary planning, packing lists, passport requirements, stateroom descriptions, ports of call and excursions, menus, tipping, dress codes, entertainment, ship details - amazing! I LOVE this book, and I am all ready for cruise - can't wait!

Overall, I really like this book. It's a great intro to the DCL for anyone new to cruising (like me). What I didn't like was the layout of the book-- the tabs are on the side, shaded gray. I also wasn't happy with "updates" or new info being grayed in the volume. I found the print to be a little difficult to read. But the most important part-- the information-- is actually very helpful, esp the parts on the excursions. I really like the fact the book takes you from booking your trip to arrival to eating to activities to leaving. Worth buying if you are considering DCL.
