Reading the book prior to our trip, we were able to prioritize our destinations and not waste time driving around as there is so much to see at Yosemite. Yosemite is definitely worth the trip. It is so vast and so awesome it just takes your breath away. By using this guide we knew exactly what was a "must see" and what would be secondary. Definitely worth the $.

Seems to me that this book is more about photos than information. It would have been nicer if some photos by Adams could have been included.
More space should have been provided for the natural history, particularly the trees (in addition to the Sequoia), wild flowers and shrubs, and the birds, other animals and insects. I had to buy "Sierra Navada Natural History" Rev. Ed., by Storer, Usinger and Lukas (also on Amazon) to fill in.
Grating to me was the absence of historical reference of the major contributions of Frederick Law Olmsted, who headed the commission leading to the establishment of Yosemite National Park 20 years later, and the constant misspelling of Olmsted's name associated with various points of interest within the Park itself, such as Olmsted Point. The National Park Service got it right. Mr. Kaiser didn't.

A good overall guide, but not a lot of detailed information about backbacking, which is what I was looking for.

I bought this book for my wife and she loved it! In fact she read it cover to cover throughout our trip. Such a wealth of history and info about the park. Good info about day hikes and the like. Great overall guide book to the park. We want to buy the other ones!
