"I Can See Clearly Now" is a wonderful memoir which means a lot to me personally. It's a little hefty at nearly 400 pages, but I read it in quick time. It's a real page turner, and almost every page has at least one piece of great wisdom or insight.
I almost feel a little embarrassed at writing this review, as I have not read a Wayne Dyer book for well over a decade. Yet it was Wayne Dyer who first opened my eyes to a greater spiritual intention in the world when I picked up his book "You'll See It When You Believe It" in 1992. That was at the local newsagent in a tiny town in outback Australia.
As Dyer writes, that older book was really the first volume he penned with a deep spiritual thrust. Before then he had primarily been writing popular psychology in the human potential genre. I remember the great excitement I felt all those years ago when I saw that book on the shelf; and I got exactly the same sense of excitement when I picked up "I Can See Clearly Now". I bought it based purely on that intuition. And I am sure glad I did.
"I Can See Clearly Now" proceeds in chronological order, detailing Wayne Dyer's life from his early childhood as an orphan, formative adolescent experiences, life in the navy and then as a student and professor. At the age of 36 Dyer had his first success with "Your Erroneous Zones" and this was followed by another forty books. The narrative outlined in "I Can See Clearly Now" traces Dyer's experiences in writing many of his books, because they tended to mirror changes in his own life experience and philosophy.
"I Can See Clearly Now" is written in first person present tense, which is a little unsettling at first. But I soon got used to this style.Read more ›

I am a huge fan of Wayne Dyer's and love his PBS specials. However, when I would get the accompanying books, they'd be rather dry and didn't display quite the same charisma and enthusiasm as the PBS specials. Those specials drew me in form start to finish. There are quite a few books of Wayne's that I am still in the beginning chapters of because they weren't captivating like his specials (in my humble opinion).
I Can See Clearly Now is one his best books ever! His stories are engaging, thought provoking and deeply touching.
This book is a real page turner. I feel blessed to hear more of his personal stories in great detail. Being part African American, I loved the story about him and his friend going into a racist diner. He did not see color and was quite jarred when the diner refused service. He's one of those men that you want to know more about. I'm thrilled that we fans get to know more about his life and what events and thought patterns shaped him to be who he is today.

First, I have to admit I got a copy a few weeks ago so I could prepare for a podcast I did with Dr. Dyer about his excellent book.
That said, this could be my favorite of his books and the bar was set pretty high already. I've read many of his 40 or so books from "Your Erroneous Zones" to "Wishes Fulfilled" and many in between.
Wayne Dyer has an amazing ability to take 100s of spiritual texts, written from many different disciplines and periods in history, all the way up to contemporary times, and translate them to the modern age. To help people right now deal with the issues they might be facing with jobs, relationships, life, meaning, purpose. Everything is ultimately a spiritual problem.
This ability has been so unique and powerful as to have helped Wayne sells perhaps 100s of millions of his books and teach many people how to live more self-reliant and fulfilling lives. But I always wanted to learn more about the man himself and how his career developed.
In his prior books, Dyer has taken these many messages and often interwoven bits and pieces of his personal story in there to show how he manifested self-reliance in his own life and how how that ultimately transformed into a message that became more and more spiritual as his writing evolved.
But in, "I Can See Clearly Now" he takes a much more autobiographical bent. Each chapter is a story describing situations from his past, Often very traumatic or, at least, upsetting situations and then he has his "I Can See Clearly Now" moment where he describes what he learned. I am a Dyer fan and this is not a bad book. The problem is, for anyone exposed to Dyer, it is not a new book either. My complaint with Dyer over the last decade or so is his works are just old subjects repackaged. I can see clearly this book has nothing new and suffers the same fate.
Now, that said, this has to one of his best written repackages in years. The subjects and stories are old and if you are a Dyer fan have heard them in some form or fashion before, but the presentation is fresh and well done. Solid writing and interesting story telling make a long read go quickly, although I only got half way before I said enough is enough.
A true Dyer fan may still enjoy this book, but for me it was been there done that.
If your new to Dyer, then this may not be a bad book, it could be a great book.
I guess Dyer is at the point in his career where there really is nothing new. That's okay, I just wish he would quit passing it off as it were.
