It's a breezy memoir filled with amusing anecdotes, including a delicious one about Joan Collins. (Daily News)
As you would expect from an actor who's never taken himself too seriously, One Lucky Bastard is charming and breezy, full of anecdotes, self-deprecating observations and salutes to many great actors who are no longer with us. . . .I loved every minute of it. (New York Post)
"Roger Moore is as debonair on the page as he is on screen."
--Boston Globe
About the Author
Sir Roger Moore is best known for portraying British secret agent James Bond in seven films between 1973 and 1985 and for his role as Simon Templar in the long-running British television series The Saint. Born in London in 1927, he became a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in 1991 and was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2003.
Most people would leave the good stuff till the end of their book to keep people reading but not Sir Roger. The first 45 pages of this book are chock full of salacious stories about everyone he worked with and some he didn't, like Joan Collins, Bette Davis, Lana Turner, Joan Crawford, Grace Kelly, Tallulah Bankhead but when you get to a not unflattering photo of the Princess Royal, stop reading. After that, it's all about him and to paraphrase what Peter Sellers says about seeing a portrayal of himself onscreen, no one would want to read that. It's mostly how much he loved working with Shelley Winters and Angie Dickinson so it's a little unbelievable to be sure. One of numerous postscripts plays out a scene between he and a passport control officer that wouldn't have made it into a normal person's autobiography. The best thing is the photos, some of them color and all of them magnificent, even one of the freakishly tall Queen Margrethe of Denmark in sweats.
