"I love Domingo and Irene dearly. Godly, full of faith and joy, their lives have inspired mine as much as any couple I know. I am eternally grateful for the example they have set for my wife and me."
(Francis Chan)
About the Author
Irene Garcia and her husband have fostered or raised thirty-two children, many of whom have special needs. They worked in Special Ministries at Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, California and started the special needs ministry at Cornerstone Church in Simi Valley, California.
Lissa Halls Johnson is a best-selling author of nineteen books, including Still Growing with Kirk Cameron. She is the creator of the Brio Girls book series for teen girls.
This book is so inspirational. Hard to believe Irene and her husband are still together after all they've been through in life...and yet they ARE rich in love, for themselves and for all the foster kids they have loved and supported throughout the years. The fact that they are still raising 10 young adopted children today, at a stage in life where most people are retired and all about 'living the good life,' is so admirable and remarkable. Makes me want to be a better person! God has truly blessed them and their story has blessed me.

The Garcia's have such a beautiful story and they tell it so honestly, life can be messy, hard, and wear your down, even if you are following what you believe. It's inspiring to hear a story where everything is not always perfect and people make mistakes and still God uses them.

So worth my time. I am both inspired and challenged by this amazing story of what can happen when the enormity of God's love intersects with overwhelming brokenness. The journey of restoring an abusive marriage into one brimming so full of love that it overflows into the restoration of abused and neglected children can only be attributed to the power of God's love and obedience to Him above all else. Irene Garcia and Lissa Halls Johnson - THANK YOU for masterfully telling us this incredible story.

This is such a beautiful story of how God can move in amazing ways. He takes our darkness and turns it into light! I cried through so many parts of this book, from the broken beginnings of their marriage to the heart-wrenching stories of the children they fostered and adopted.
This book was also eye-opening to me about the realities and difficulties of fostering children. I want to adopt children and I have had some of the same assumptions Irene describes. Reading this was a bit sobering in that regard. God bless the families who do this and take this difficult road to sacrificially love the least of these by opening their homes! Difficult and challenging, but a blessing and so worth it!

I just finished Irene's book, this is a must read for everyone! Too many people are closing their eyes to the abuse and neglect of thousands of children in America today. If you know someone who has a major addiction to drugs or alcohol, their children are suffering. Irene, not only shares their family's struggles due to Domingo's alcohol addiction, but 'tells it like it really is' for the children of addicted parents. I believe this is a 'wake up' call. She tells us how our lives can change and how we can, personally, help change the lives of children. I have seen Irene and Domingo in action! I've met their children and they are beautiful!

Rich In Love When God Rescues Messy People Irene Garcia, Lissa Halls Johnson Copyright 2014
This is a story of how God redeems messy people. We are reminded too that just because it looks like a person has everything on the outside does not mean its true. Some people are very good at hiding how they truly feel.
We see what alcoholism can do to a relationship and we see also how God can create something new from people who seem broken to the world.
Irene talks about raising a daughter with multiple physical and mental issues as well as an adopted Son and later goes on to tell about her Sons battle with Cancer.
I give Rich In Love five out of five stars.
Happy Reading...

If this book doesn't convict you to take care of orphans, nothing will! The writing style is very simple, and Mrs. Garcia tells her story matter-of-factly. You'll be encouraged by her transparency about her marriage and her struggles with faith. Your heart will be broken over the stories of some of these children. God is good, though, and He continues to work miracles in the lives of those who are willing to obey Him. Thank God for people like the Garcias.
