Overview

When Brad Meltzer's first son was born eight years ago, the bestselling writer and new father started compiling a list of heroes whose virtues and talents he wanted to share with his son: Abraham Lincoln, Rosa Parks, Jim Henson, Amelia Earhart, Muhammad Ali . . . and so many more, each one an ordinary person who was able to achieve the extraordinary. The list grew to include the fifty-two amazing people now gathered in Heroes for My Son, a book that parents and their children—sons and daughters alike—can now enjoy together as they choose heroes of their own.

From the Wright Brothers, who brought extra building materials to every test flight, planning ahead for failure, to Miep Gies, who risked her life to protect Anne Frank and her family from the Nazis during World War II, Heroes for My Son brings well-known figures together with less famous ones, telling the inspiring, behind-the-scenes stories of the moment that made them great. They are a miraculous group with one thing in common: each is an example of the spectacular potential that can be found in all of us.

Heroes for My Son is an unforgettable book of timeless wisdom, one that families everywhere can share again and again.

A Sweet Story for Anyone Young or Old

Brad Meltzer's collection of those men and women, famous and everyday who impacted his life is incredibly moving. Written for his son, it is not just a book for children, but a book that will help inspire everyone to look at those in their lives and see what they have taught them.

Perfect Little Book For Sharing With Loved Ones

Wonderful little gift book, full of heroes and thinkers and performers to inspire and inform. While it's an obvious bonding gift for father and son, any relationship can share this collection of great ideas and personalities. It will inspire reading and researching and it is something that a parent and child can sit with and talk about. A homerun on this out of character book for Brad Meltzer.

Heroes for My Son, written and read by Brad Meltzer, is an audiobook that will leave you inspired and thinking about lessons that are important to instill in your sons. This audiobook is a wonderful collection of people the author considers to be heroes, heroes that he wants his sons to learn about and strive to emulate. Meltzer shares how his life changed when he became a dad and why he wrote this book.  Martin Luther King, Jr., Harriet Tubman, Amelia Earhart, and Anne Sullivan are a few of the heroes included in this book and the stories shared about each individual are truly inspiring.

I loved the personal touch that Meltzer included as he begins with sharing why he wrote this book and also including his son in the recording of this audiobook. Track 9 is a tidbit about Roberto Clemente who is Meltzer’s son’s favorite athlete. Meltzer shares when he first showed the book to his son and his reaction. I really enjoyed this part of the book; it is probably my favorite track. Beginning each track with a word or two about the individual before saying the individual’s name is a great format and introduction. I also like the CD of pictures that is included; this is a nice touch to the audiobook and really completes it. Each of these tracks will inspire both children and adults to think about their lives, how they live their lives and the legacy they wish to leave.

    Real heros

I bought this for my children to read to my grandchildren. I want them to know ordinary people are capable of extraordinary things and they are capable of it.

Touching...reminder of how humans are fragile but even more resilient

Great synopsis of admirable role models. Must read for children--and adults who have gotten cynical of the world.

    A Wonderful Learning Tool

As a parent, reading / language development specialist, and gift-giver, I have found multiple uses for this excellent book. Visually simple and concise but complex in thought and vocabulary, it is the ideal teaching tool for all ages.
