Overview

An amazing story of faith amidst the horrors of the Holocaust, The Hiding Place has a richly-deserved place among the "Christian classics." In this autobiographical account, Corrie ten Boom tells of her family's attempt to save Dutch Jews from a Nazi roundup - until their efforts were discovered and the entire family sent to a concentration camp. Her father and sister would die in captivity, but Corrie would survive to write, preach, and personally share the story of God's love and forgiveness - even to her former Nazi captors! Now in a deluxe collector's edition, this unabridged classic will thrill readers of all ages.

Meet the Author

When the second world war began, CORRIE TEN BOOM was simply an ordinary, middle-aged Dutch spinster. By the time the conflict ended, she was literally transformed by the faith she had merely accepted, and on a mission from God. By God's grace, Corrie survived the concentration camp and became a "tramp for the Lord," sharing in more than sixty nations the thrilling message that nothing, not even death, can separate us from God's love.

Who Really Suffered During the Holocaust?

We have all heard the story of the holocaust. It was a tragic experience for many and to this day, this black mark on human history haunts the lives of numerous souls. While there are an abundant amount of books about the holocaust, The Hiding Place has a quality in which none of the rest have, or so I have found. It is a story of a dedicated Christian girl living in Holland during the reign of Hitler. While she is initially safe because of her religion and background, her family and her quickly learn how serious it is, to even befriend an undesirable (Jew). The consequences may be worse than death itself.
Since it is non fiction, The Hiding Place is incredibly accurate and descriptive of the true happenings of Corrie Ten Boom's life. I absolutely loved the book. It was filled with every emotion imaginable. I found myself laughing one moment and crying the next. There is truly not much to dislike. If anything, I found myself wanting a more detailed account of what happened in parts. Corrie Ten Boom has done an amazing job at recounting her tale. Being in first person, she captures you and you seem to become a part of the Ten Boom family; sharing with all their joy and pain.
The Hiding Place is a great book for just about any age. Whether just starting high school, or you have children of your own, it is a book that will engage any audience member. The lesson of forgiveness and courage to stand up for your own beliefs is one any person of any age can learn and gain from. To think of how many people suffered though this tragic experience and lived full productive lives is encouraging. I feel I can now face anything life throws at me with just a little faith and determination.
If you enjoy this book or books about or involving the Holocaust, you may also enjoy I Stand at the Door and Knock by Corrie Ten Boom,? A Prisoner and Yet... by Corrie Ten Boom,? and The Diary of Anne Frank by Anne Frank.?

I first read this in the sixth grade over thirty years ago because it was our reading material for one whole semester. (In a public school, no less.) Time has not diminished what it has to say -- Christ first...no matter what.

This is an inspirational story of sacrifice and love that uplift

This is an inspirational story of sacrifice and love that uplifts the soul. It is a true account of Corrie Ten Boom's experiences in German-occupied Holland during WWII. It includes her involvement in the underground and her later imprisonment. She and her sister were truly an example of Christ like love that we can all learn from.

A Look into the Hiding Place

The Hiding Place was a real page turner. It was about Corrie Ten Boom and her family how they went from a little Dutch family to a victim of Hitler and his concentration camps. The theme of this book was that with God you can do anything. In this book her family got though all that was thrown at them with the help of God. Their faith in God is incredible and we can all learn from them. This is a good read is you are feeling a lack of faith or if you just want to hear a amazing story of Gods awesomeness. But one thing I did not like about this book was how slow it took to started out. But once it got into the swing I couldn't put it down. I would totally recommend this book to anyone if search of a good read. Overall this book had a awesome story a good plot and a great theme. But it took awhile to get started and it was and at time I got confused. So I would give this book a 9 out of 10.

A great read to discuss perseverance and conviction

This book was slow at first. I think it had to share some background information to help the reader understand the family and its circumstances. This book has several thought provoking passages that explained life situations that I particularly enjoyed. The comparison of death and a train ride, the idea that some knowledge is to heavy for children to carry, and the analogy of the fleas and being grateful in all circumstances. This book will give you hope, and reason to realize that maybe your life isn't so tough after all. A little kindness and compassion can go a long way even in the coldest of hearts.

one of those that makes you sad but happy

The Story of Corrie and her sister truly is a confession to the Christian faith. Despite the fact that it sways toward a christian standpoint the book has great moral lessons and...food for thought. Its compassionate sad and happy. A satisfying domination of good over evil.

    The Hiding Place

Im a 13 year old girl and at first I found this book to be in all truthfulness, really boring, but as I read on I began to understand it more and relate to it. I saw how her and her sister got along and realized it was similar to me and my sisters relationship. Her father read from the Bible everyday to the family, and thats what my dad used to do, and try's as much as he can now. I really admire Corrie ten Boom for her great loyalty toward God. Even when she got discourged, like when she was in those disgusting concentration camps, she knew God was there, and I someday hope to have as much faith as she did.She was also very courageous, she wasn't afraid to hide the Jewish in her home, and she did what she thought was right, and Im not sure I could have ever done that, she had a lot of guts. I would highly recommend this book for someone my age.

    Courage Despite Extreme Adversity

They didn't have to do what they did, but their love for God and their fellow man made them make their decision. Miss ten Boom did not regret the decision to hide the wanted Jewish persons. The moral strength and courage of the ten Boom family will put faith back in your fellow man. The ten Booms are certainly rare people who followed their conscience and paid a price for it. Out of the horror comes an inspiring true story which is worth your time. You will ask yourself, would I ever have this kind of courage? But only you can answer that.

    Fleas

When I read this the first time years ago I was reminded that Corrie Ten Boom was praying for the nazi guards. She told her sister before she died that the fleas in her barracks kept the guards from coming into the barracks.

A Christian family that truly lived their faith

This is a family that I would really have liked to have met, the book gives me a wonderful, happy feeling of a family that loved each other, their Savior and their fellow man and they put their own safety and comforts on the line to do their part in helping the persecuted Jews and the Dutch resistance at a tremendous cost to their own liberty. The most moving part of the book for me was the forgiving spirit of Betsie towards their cruel guards and circumstances, and the many prisoners and others that they led into the Kingdom of God thru their Christian witness, thank you Corrie for the wonderful blessing that I always receive whenever I reread your 'The Hiding Place'.

    Beautiful Work of Art

This compelling true story of a woman and her sister who were exiled into Ravensbruck, a German concentration camp, really touched my heart. Corrie and Betsie's faith in their time of persecution makes me wonder if I could do the same. How somebody could be thankful at a time like that. This book was one of my favorite books and in my opnion should be read by all.
