I love everything Stephanie Laurens writes. Her characters are well developed, and draw you into the story. Many romance books these days are just sex scenes loosely strung together by a somewhat coherent story. Stephanie Laurens books are INTERESTING, and hold the reader's attention from beginning to end. The only caveat I have here are a few editing problems, which I have noticed are becoming a problem with all e-books. My only comment to that is, if you want us to pay to read your e-books, be a little more careful with typos, spelling and grammatical errors.

I wasn't sure I would like this story, because in the first few books in which Malcolm Sinclair appeared, he didn't seem to be a very nice boy/man - and I'm not drawn to "bad guys". In latter books where he appeared we saw him slowly grow a conscience. And in this book we saw a true story of redemption rather than a story about a hunky anti-hero. It's an exquisite story about a man who looks back on his life and realizes he's been given another chance to save his soul and he takes it - truly changes for the better. And it's about the power of love and acceptance. There were moments when I teared up, moments when I ached for HIM and Rose, moments when I was on pins and needles rooting for them and the moment at the end when I felt so very satisfied at their victory and the magnificent way the book ended paid tribute to a long ago character. I don't want to reveal ANY of the plot - but I do think this is a must read as I believe Laurens really nailed IT. I also loved seeing my favorites again. Montague and Violet, Stokes and Griselda and Barnaby and Penelope. I so enjoy seeing the pregnancies, births and children woven thru the various Laurens novels over the span of years she writes about. I feel like I'm keeping up with old friends - the various families as the characters have become so dear (especially my VERY favorite the Duke of Wolverstone). And once again, her outstanding vocabulary always sends me to the dictionary - expanding my horizons. Well done. I highly recommend Loving Rose.

I have read several books by this author. Some of them have been better than others. Loving Rose is one of the most enjoyable. A flawed hero seeking redemption and a heroine in peril. In this case they are also accompanied by a very good story, catching the reader's attention right from the start. As per usual Ms. Laurens weaves recurring characters from her other novels into the story in supporting roles. The story stands alone but the use of the ancillary characters draws new readers into the broader world of her characters and sends them looking for more. I recommend the story for those who enjoy reading about love and destiny. For those seeking
a good love story to hold your interest enter the world of Stephanie Laurens. This book is a good place to start.

Loved the mystery, murders that happened in the past to the threat of murder in the present.
The complete redemption of a good man who finds love in the end. This was a great book.

The first half of the book is phenomenal! I love Malcolm/Thomas, Rose, and the children. The relationship that builds between Malcolm and the children and then Malcolm and Rose is so sweet without being annoying (though, their love scenes were a little annoying - I'm not looking for explicit content, but the cliché romance-novel descriptions [torrents of passion, pleasure plains, welling waves of ecstasy, etc] were annoying). Rose's backstory was really intriguing and their rush to London was believable and then tension was communicated fairly well. Then Barnaby Adair's casebook took over and things just fell apart. Barnaby's investigations were much better when he did his investigating off-page and reported back to the principle characters. I do not like how the principle characters take a back seat once Barnaby, Stokes, now Montague and their wives get involved. If the investigation process was interesting instead of mind-numbingly tedious and if the investigative team were actually good at what they're doing (they're really horrible investigators), I might feel differently. But as it stands, once Barnaby and friends join the storyline they bog it down entirely with individual inquiries, repetitive dinners where they exhaustively rehash everything they already know, and constant red herring ploys that they always fall for. In fact, most of investigation in The Master Mr. Montague and Loving Rose is centered around an incorrect premise based on assumptions and inaccurate conclusions they have jumped to.
The final, hugest frustration is how profoundly foolish they all can be. The entire point of Malcolm/Thomas, Rose, and the children coming to London is so they can disappear in London - instead, they spend entire days touring London and shopping. And finally, the big climatic scene at the end is the sole result of the team throwing caution out the door after being so single-focused on one person. MAJOR SPOILER - I could not believe it when the villain was able to just stroll into the house and take the children away. If that's the best this team can do, they all need to retire immediately.
It's really frustrating because the story started off so awesome. Oh well.

What a thrilling and somewhat intriguing story from the Casebook of Barnaby Adair!
This Malcolm Sinclair's story. Believed to be dead, he re-invents himself as, Thomas Glendower. In his previous life he was a notorious man spared from death. He is on a mission to meet his fate, and make amends.
Enter...Rose,living in his secluded manor with her two children. Thomas is instantly attracted to her, as she is to him. Thomas, is a tortured soul and scarred terribly. But is he lovable? Oh, but Rose has on own secrets to tell or not tell as the case may be. And determined to tame the wild beast within Thomas.
Filled with a bit of intrigue, lots of passion, two delightful young children, redemption, healing, forgiveness,the power of true love and friendship. An enjoyable read! Laurens' books have always been up and down for me. This one was a surely an "up." More often than not her heroes have nothing going for them but sex appeal. Meanwhile the brilliant and headstrong heroines lead him around by the nose. I've never understood why they would want such clods. In this one Thomas/Malcolm grow together more slowly and realistically.
In addition she often keeps her couples apart by variations on the same theme. He wants her but doesn't want to say he loves her, she won't be his until he says he loves her. Sigh. In this charming little book Thomas actually has a believable reason for holding back and Rose, bless her heart, is sweetly bold in neither denying her love or giving in to his hesitation. He wins her heart almost by accident and she patiently loves him until admits nothing matters but his love for her.
One of Laurens' strong points is her skill is writing charming scenes with utterly charming declarations of love. She does so here.
Great story, well written, good tale of redemption and restoration. One of her best if not the best. It helps if you have read the other stories with Malcolm/Thomas in them but not all that much.
