Jude Deveraux

Jude Deveraux is the author of forty-two New York Times bestsellers, including Moonlight Masquerade and A Knight in Shining Armor. She was honored with a Romantic Times Pioneer Award in 2013 for her distinguished career. To date, there are more than sixty million copies of her books in print worldwide.

Biography

Jude Deveraux was born in Fairdale, Kentucky, the eldest of a family of three girls and one boy. After earning a degree in art from Murray State University and studying teaching at the University of New Mexico, she taught fifth grade in Santa Fe, New Mexico. She left when her first book, The Land of Enchantment, was accepted for publication by Avon books.

Jude's first books were historical, chiefly featuring the Montgomery and Taggert families. Stories of the lives and loves of these families spanned over several centuries in the US and England. They are filled with details of the history and culture of the time periods and settings of her novels. Her more recent series of books focuses on the McTern family and its descendants. The novels are set in the fictional town of Edilean, Virginia, and go from when the family arrived in America to contemporary time.

Jude's exhaustive research on every aspect of her books has made for a rich and detailed background for each of her novels. Her stories are adventurous, funny, and at times heartwarming. Jude has had over thirty books on the New York Times Bestsellers List, over 60 million copies in print, and has been translated into 18 languages.

Jude has lived in England and Egypt as well as in several American states, and she has traveled around the world. She likes to read nonfiction and murder mysteries, work in her garden, and in boxing class, she enjoys showing much younger males that she can throw a mean right cross.

Nantucket

Graydon Montgomery couldn’t take his eyes off the young woman. The bride and his cousin Jared, the groom, were standing at the front of the little chapel, the pastor between them, and Graydon kept looking across them at her. She had on a blue bridesmaid dress, was holding a bouquet of flowers, and her attention was fully on the ceremony.

While she was pretty, she wasn’t conventionally so. She wasn’t the type of woman who’d make people do double takes. With her oval face, eyes the color of bluebells, and flawless skin, she looked like a girl you’d see in the newspaper as having attended a debutante ball. She’d be able to wear pearls and long gloves without looking like she’d rather be in jeans.

Earlier, when the four wedding attendants had been waiting outside, there’d been a lot of commotion inside the little chapel. At the last minute, some kind of mix-­up had caused a great deal of chaos. In normal circumstances, Graydon would have made an effort to find out what was happening, but not today. Today he was distracted by her.

Sounds of angry shouts and furniture crashing to the floor had come from inside the chapel. The two bridesmaids and the other groomsman went to the door to see what was going on, but Graydon stood where he was. He wasn’t even curious. All he could do was gaze at the back of the young woman. She had long blonde hair that curled down her back, and a nice figure. Not flashy, but trim and subdued.

Through all the turmoil, Graydon had stood back from them. He was only vaguely aware of the surroundings, of the big tent that was set up for dinner and dancing, of the moonlight on the wooded area around them, even of the brightly lit chapel where the wedding was to be. He seemed only able to think about what the young woman had said to him just minutes before.

When Graydon had been asked to escort a bridesmaid down the aisle, he’d thought it would be an easy, enjoyable task. After all, he was certainly used to red carpets and ceremonies of all kinds.

But when he was introduced to the young woman, he’d been shocked by what she said—­and he still hadn’t recovered.

When the noise inside the chapel finally calmed down and they prepared to go inside, Graydon moved to stand beside her and crooked his arm for her to take. When she put her hand on his arm, he smiled warmly at her, slipped his hand over hers, and clasped it gently.

Without a word, she snatched her hand away, took two steps back, and glared at him. There was no mistaking her meaning: He was to make no overtures of any kind toward her. And that seemed to include even friendliness.

Graydon didn’t think he’d ever before been at a loss for words, but in the face of her anger, every language he knew seemed to disappear from his mind. All he could do was stand there and blink. Finally, he managed to nod his agreement. No touching, no smiles, no anything outside what was necessary to get the job done.

As they walked down the aisle together, she kept her distance from him. Her hand was on his arm, but her body was two feet away from his. Graydon held his head high, doing his best to swallow his pride. Never before had a woman found him . . . well, repulsive. Truthfully, no woman had ever before tried to get away from him.

He wasn’t naive—­he knew well that a lot of the fawning and flirting directed his way was because of what he’d come to think of as the “unfortunate circumstances of my birth,” but still . . . That she didn’t want anything to do with him wounded his ego.

When they got to the front of the chapel, she seemed relieved to get away from him. She went to the left, and Graydon went to the other side to wait for the bride to come down the aisle with her father.

Throughout the ceremony Graydon couldn’t help peering around the bride and groom to look at her. What was her name? Toby, wasn’t it? Surely that was a nickname, and he wondered what her birth name was.

As the ceremony neared the end, Graydon felt that old familiar pull, what people called the “twin bond,” and he knew his brother was there. He glanced to his left, through the crowd of people packed into the chapel. Family was in chairs but the back was full of guests standing and watching. It took Graydon only seconds to find his brother in the very back, purposely hidden behind other people. Rory wasn’t dressed properly for a wedding, but then his leather jacket and casual slacks fit in with the American style. At least his brother didn’t have on jeans.

Rory nodded toward the blonde bridesmaid in question. He’d never seen his brother stare at a woman before and he was curious as to why.

As was sometimes the case with identical twins, he and his brother often communicated without words. But there was no way Graydon could tell his brother the one and only thought in his mind: She can tell you and me apart.

Frowning, Rory let Graydon know that he didn’t understand. He slanted his head to one side and Graydon nodded. They had just arranged to meet outside as soon as possible.

That done, Graydon gave his attention back to the young woman. In a moment they’d again walk down the aisle, and he looked forward to it.

    A Delectible Fairy Tale

    Reminiscent of A Knight in Shining Armor, this novel does not disappoint. I could not put it down. I love how the past and present are interwoven. My only disappointment is that I finished and now must wait for the next novel in this series

    Not my fav

    I think this would have been much better if there was more dialog between Toby and Gray. There was a lot of thoughts about how they felt or thoughts about what they talked about but you never got to experiance the conversations so the book lost feeling for me.

    I was excited to see the second book in the Nantucket Brides Tri

    I was excited to see the second book in the Nantucket Brides Trilogy by Jude Deveraux become available on Netgalley.  I have been a huge fan ever since I read Black Lyon, way, way, way back in the early 80's. After reading the first book in the trilogy, True Love, I was thrilled when I was approved to read this one as well. 

    This book picks up from the end of book 1.  Alix and Jared have just married and everyone is ready to enjoy the wedding party.  Graydon, cousin of Jared and the Crown Prince of Lanconia had partnered Toby, reluctant wedding planner and bridesmaid, down the aisle. When he found out that she had met his identical twin brother the night before and could tell the two of them apart, something almost no one could do, he decides to spend some time with her to find out if the family legend holds any truth: You marry the one who can tell the twins apart.  In order to spend some time with Toby, Graydon demands Rory, his twin, switch places with him.  With some smooth talking and adroit maneuvering by Rory, Graydon gets the chance to spend the coming week on Nantucket with Toby. 

    And so the matchmaking begins.  Alix's mother Victoria gets in on the act by insisting that since Toby did such an excellent job on Alix's wedding, that Toby should do Victoria's as well and even arranges for Toby to have time off so that she can plan the wedding and spend it with Graydon, of course. It's not long before they are spending all of their time together.  As they draw closer to each other, they also stumble upon the story of Garrett and Tabby and their tragic romance. Is history doomed to repeat itself, or can they create a new history and future?

    I quite enjoyed the paranormal aspects to the book.  True Love dealt with the ghost of Caleb, while this book involves time travel. I was also thrilled to see Lanconia show back up.  Not only is Graydon the grandson of J.T. and Aria from The Princess, but he references his ancestors, Rowan and Jura from The Maiden. It was fun to get a chance to link back to the earlier books. This was another 5 star read.

    It felt so good to be reading a book by Jude again. I like this

    It felt so good to be reading a book by Jude again. I like this series set on Nantucket. I've never been but it does sound lovely. Jude has another winner with this story and characters. Poor Toby, she is in charge of Jared and Alix's wedding. She has finished and is mad at the one relative who is just a playboy. This is when she finds out he is covering for his twin. She knows he isn't the other brother and also learns that it is True Love if you can tell the twins in this family apart. But this twin is the heir to a Kingdom. There is lots of family here and as it is an old heritage there are lots of ghosts around. The dream scenes were gut wrenchers but the "A Knight in Shining Armor" put a dash of fun info the story. I hope you pick this book. I'm sure you will like it!

    For All Time is about Toby and Grayson who were set up as the next couple at the end of “True Love”. Grayson is the Crown Prince of Laconia and while attending the wedding of his cousin Jared Montgomery Kingsley to Alix Madsen, meets bridesmaid and amateur wedding planner Toby Wyndam. When Toby is able to tell Grayson and his brother Rory apart, Gray finds a way to stay on the Island so that he can get to know her better. If you are a fan of Jude’s and have read other of her books in the Montgomery - Taggert series, you know about the Laconia legend that the says the person who can tell the twins apart is their true love. Well Grayson is so smitten with Toby, that he spends as much time as possible with Toby exploring his fascination with her and trying to decide how to deal with it all. Graydon Montgomery is the Crown Prince of Lanconia. He has come to Nantucket with his twin, Rory, for the wedding of Jared Montgomery Kingsley to Alix Madsen (Book 1 in the series, True Love.) He's immediately smitten with bridesmaid Toby Wyndam, who has simply never found a man worthy of tempting her into a love affair. However, Graydon is engaged-to-be-engaged to an appropriate lady in Lanconia. Graydon immediately tells Toby who he is, thankfully, so there's none of this "I have to tell you something..." later.     The Princess was my first ever Jude Deveraux book.  It is still

    The Princess was my first ever Jude Deveraux book.  It is still my favorite and I read it at least once a year.  I loved that For All Time was a story of their grandson.  While there were definitely some similarities, switching out the royalty, arranged marriages, a surprise meeting with the mother-in-law, it was a great new story complete with time travel.  Deveraux and the Montgomery's never disappoint.  This is one I am sure I will read again.

    Just finished this book. It was very interesting, the kind of book, you can not put down. I read the first book in this new series. But I actually liked the second book. So many of the old characters from her previous books are in it.
    You have to read the first book, so you won't be lose in the second book. But it is a must read. Good work, Deverauz....OLD FAN

    Graydon is heir to the Lanconian throne and is to marry a noble woman who has been chosen for him. Although he knows his future is set he cant not help but be drawn to Toby.
    Toby possesses the truly remarkable ability of being able to distinguish Graydon from his identical twin brother. She knows she can tell them a part and has no problems giving them a piece of her mind when she finds out.
    Although they decide to just be friends destiny has other plans for them and passion and true love cannot be denied!
    Definitely a good read!

    Mixed feelings

    I have mixed feelings on this book because you must like paranormal to care for the book I think if they left that out and added more of toby and graydon relationship it would have been better in some way it was hard to follow because og it,,,,,,!,,,,,,,,

    Jude Deveraux is my second favorite author (second only to Julie

    Jude Deveraux is my second favorite author (second only to Julie Garwood) and I have read all of her books. However, I must say I was disappointed in this book. I like her books better when the "paranormal" is not present. That's not to say I did not enjoy this book; it just was not one of my favorites. Hopefully the next one is better.

    Not as good as the first!

    I have been a Jude Deveraux fan for years. I was anxiously awaiting book #2. This book was disappointing. I don't think the flip flopping back in time added much to the story. Quite frankly, it was tedious.

    Everyone should be loved like this "For All Time"

    For All Time by Jude Deveraux is the second book in her Nantucket Brides Trilogy and it does not disappoint.  After reading “True Love”, the first book in the trilogy I had to visit Nantucket to see if it was as described in the book.  I am thrilled to tell you Jude does justice to Nantucket and if you feel like you have been there after reading either of the books you will have gotten an accurate picture of the Island.




    That being said, For All Time is about Toby and Grayson who were set up as the next couple at the end of “True Love”.  Grayson is the Crown Prince of Laconia and while attending the wedding of his cousin Jared Montgomery Kingsley to Alix Madsen, meets bridesmaid and amateur wedding planner Toby Wyndam. When Toby is able to tell Grayson and his brother Rory apart, Gray finds a way to stay on the Island so that he can get to know her better.  If you are a fan of Jude’s and have read other of her books in the Montgomery - Taggert series, you know about the Laconia legend that the says the person who can tell the twins apart is their true love.  Well Grayson is so smitten with Toby, that he spends as much time as possible with Toby exploring his fascination with her and trying to decide how to deal with it all.




    Mix in the ghosts from the first book and the storyline from the past and trying to fix the mistakes of the past to help the future and you have a entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable read.  Now add in characters from previous books who you fell in love with years ago and who make appearances here and you have a book you can’t put down.




    “For All Time” is not a stand alone book and if you don’t read “True Love” first you will be lost with all the characters and how they all relate to each other and the story too.




    You have three stories going on simultaneously in this book, Grayson and Toby’s love story is the main one but then there is the ghosts and and the past and lastly the people and the Island of Nantucket to round it all out.




    If any of this sounds remotely entertaining to you then you will LOVE “For All Time”.  I know I can’t wait for the third book in the trilogy.

    Enjoyable romance!

    I received an advance reader edition of this book from Random House Publishing Group for the purpose of providing an honest review.

    I feel that I must start this review by saying that this is not the first Jude Deveraux book that I have read in my life and I would count myself as one of her fans. I have enjoyed every book by this author that I have had the chance to read and have yet to be let down. I have read her more recent works and have yet to read her earlier work although I have heard that some of her earlier books are by far her best. I felt that this book lived up to the expectations that I have when reading a book by Jude Deveraux.

    This book is the second book in the Nantucket Brides Trilogy. While I think it would be most enjoyable to read the trilogy in its intended order, I do think that this book could be read as a stand alone.

    Graydon and Toby meet at Jared and Alix's wedding. Graydon has an identical twin brother, Rory, and Toby is able to tell the men apart. Graydon's family believes that whoever can tell the twins apart will be their true love. Not only is Graydon polite, charming, and drop dead gorgeous, he happens to be the heir to the Lancanion throne. Yep - Graydon is a Prince. Graydon arranges to spend some time in Nantucket to get closer to Toby.

    While Toby is attracted to Graydon, she tries to keep control of her emotions because she knows that there is no way that the pair can ever be together. Graydon has a soon to be fiance that has been chosen for him. The pair grow closer as they work together to plan a close family friend's wedding.

    I did have a moment while reading this book that it seemed completely unoriginal. I mean this book had identical twins switching places, a prince who wants to be with his true love, and the commoner who does not feel like she can ever have the prince. Things did pick up and I felt that book seemed more original the further I read. I love how Jude Deveraux slips a little paranormal aspect into most of her books - at least the ones that I have had a chance to read. This book was no exception. Nothing like a little time travel to keep things interesting.

    All in all, I found this to be an enjoyable romance. I am sure that I will be reading the final book in the trilogy as soon as it becomes available.

    Once again, Jude Devereaux has done it again. The love story of Toby and Graydon was a real page turner. For those of you that are true JD fans, you will love the way other stories and characters are pulled into this story. Thanks again Jude, keep up the good work.
