4.25 stars--ECHOES OF SCOTLAND STREET is the fifth full length s

4.25 stars--ECHOES OF SCOTLAND STREET is the fifth full length storyline in Samantha Young’s adult, contemporary On Dublin Street romance series focusing on a tight knit family and group of friends from Scotland. This is tattoo artist Cole Walker (Jo Walker’s brother from Down London Road) and Shannon MacLeod’s story. Although Echoes of Scotland Street is part of the continuing series, it can be read as a stand-alone without any problems but why would you want to!!
We were first introduced to Cole as a fifteen year old young man in the first book of the series- On Dublin Street. In Echoes of Scotland Street the storyline begins around the same timeline when Cole and Shannon first met years before. Fast forward nine years where Cole and Shannon will be reunited at Inkarnate-a tattoo shop in Edinburgh, Scotland –where Cole works and manages, and Shannon comes looking for a job. But the previous nine years have destroyed Shannon’s faith and trust in men, and seeing Cole again, brings back too many painful memories.
The focus of the story is a second chance-of sorts- for Cole and Shannon. With only a brief conversation between the pair nine years earlier, Cole has never forgotten the cute and tiny redhead that captured his eye.  As Cole tries to win over Shannon, he will be constantly pushed away until he has been pushed too far. Shannon’s distrust of everything male has left a bitter and broken heart that has yet to mend. Her past is rife with heartbreak, abuse and loss.
Shannon’s past experiences with men have left her in a perpetual state of jumping to conclusions and building up walls. She is quick to judge based on appearances; she does not give anyone the benefit of the doubt; and in this she was a difficult character to like. Everyone has some sort of emotional and physical baggage but Shannon has had a more difficult time than most recovering from the pain of the past. Every encounter with Shannon, Cole would be on the receiving end of preconceived notions, sarcastic and rude comments. It will take a number of people to show Shannon that Cole is not the person she believes him to be-but it may be too late because Shannon may have destroyed any hope of forgiveness and love. Shannon’s continuous need to push people away will result in a self-fulfilling prophecy when she can no longer trust the man with whom she has fallen in love.
The sex scenes are provocative, sensual and passionate. The relationship between Shannon and Cole is emotional and intense.
The world building continues with the inclusion of many of the previous storyline characters including Cole’s sister Jo and her new family, Joss and Braden, Olivia and Nate, Marco and Hannah. We will be introduced to Cole’s colorful co-workers and employees as well as Shannon’s dysfunctional family. Sometimes the family that loves and accepts you is not the family by blood. Shannon’s brother Logan is in desperate need of a happily ever after, so I am looking forward to Logan’s story in the future.
Samantha Young’s ON DUBLIN STREET series continues to captivate the imagination of her readers. The friendship, love and camaraderie between the characters are something everyone should aspire to in real life. The storylines are seductive; the characters are colorful, heartbreaking and sometimes aggravating but everyone will get his or her happily ever after.

I'll admit - I thought I might have a hard time getting into Col

I'll admit - I thought I might have a hard time getting into Cole's story. I mean, I still think of him as the 14-year-old sweet kid from book #2. Even though we caught a glimpse of grown-up Cole in Hannah's book, it wasn't the same as him being front and center. And sexy. And a dirty-talker.

I think Samantha Young knew that we might still have a remnant of teenage Cole in our minds when we started Echoes of Scotland Street. Which is why she eases us into it. The first scene in the book is between 15-year-old Cole and 15-year-old Shannon. They have this awesome conversation outside his grandmother's house. Shannon likens him to a Tony Stark, Clark Kent or a Peter Parker. She says Cole Walker is a super hero name. So true.

Flash forward a bunch of years and Cole is all grown up. He's put his drawing talents to good use as the star tattooist at a well-renowned shop in Edinburgh. He's been surrounded by people who love him and are interested in him. Shannon, on the other hand, has been in one failed relationship after another. And, after the disastrous end of her last one, her family has pretty much written her off as a lost cause. Shannon is seriously in need of a super hero. But, she sees Cole as the villain with his tats and his piercings - just like all her other boyfriends.

There is one thing about Echoes of Scotland Street that I loved more than anything. It might surprise you. For a bit, this book goes along like many others. Cole pursues Shannon. She blows him off. On and on we go with only Cole's persistence and confidence and Shannon's inane stubbornness to pull them through the story. I have to tell you - so many times, I sit here and think that there's no guy who would put up with so much crap from a girl.

The best thing is, Cole doesn't. He truly is one of the best book boyfriends ever. Because, when Shannon's words and actions prove to be too much, he tells her so and writes her off. I loved it. It proved how comfortable he is in his own skin. And that he has a strong moral compass and isn't a doormat. All necessary qualities in a good man.

And, as it turns out, Cole's stand was exactly the kick in the pants that Shannon needed. Once she saw beneath the false mask she herself had constructed on him, she was able to see Cole's inner hero. And it was then that he was able to do things for her she didn't even dream of.

Your mind went right in the gutter, yeah? I meant That Cole was able to help Shannon conquer the demons of her past and to start to work through a lot of the guilt she was harboring. But, truthfully, grown-up Cole is a sexy beast who knows his way around the bedroom. Samantha Young doesn't let us down - this book is super hot and super satisfying in every way. We see lots of our favorite couples from previous books too.

And, we get to meet the subject of the next book in this incredible series. It's a brand new guy - I'll keep it a surprise, but suffice to say, I'm already jonesing for his story. In the meantime, Echoes of Scotland Street will tide you over. It's everything you love in the On Dublin Street series.

Echoes of Scotland Street by Samantha Young

Samantha Young brings readers the next On Dublin Street book, Echoes of Scotland Street. Fans of this series will be enchanted by the 'wee fairy' Shannon and totally enamored with bad boy, Cole Walker. The angst and tension is strong in this one and readers won't be able to put it done for a second as the sizzling chemistry between this lead couple explodes on the page. Readers looking for a very sexy, yet poignant read will find this one as irresistible as the hero! What I liked: Cole Walker is one bad boy. From his dirty mouth to his tatted up skin, he sizzles off the pages of this book. Readers were first introduced to him as young boy in a terrible situation in Joanna's story. But now he's all grown up and he's got it together in a great way. He knows who he is, what he wants and how to get it. I loved his confidence and his edge. Young lets the reader understand Cole, his motivations and his desires. He doesn't pull any punches. He wants Shannon and he is determined to help her move on from a troubled past. He is the epitome of bad boy hero. Shannon is a great character in her own right. When we first meet her as a teen she seems to be all unicorns and rainbows. Full of smiles and dreams, but nine years later, she is bit more broken. She has been through some bad experiences, she has grown and changed. Both she and Cole have matured and become more real. I loved her. She was a petite beauty, who had a little too much hurt behind her smile and Young made her so easy to root for. I wanted that happy ending as much as any I've read in awhile. The secondary characters and returning characters from previous books, add so much to this story. When I read a series, I don't want to leave the heroes and heroines behind. I want them to be connected and a part of each new book in the series and Young certainly knows how to do that. She adds in new people, but she never forgets the readers love for knowing what happened to their favorites. I loved meeting Logan and Shannon's fiery coworker, Rae. This is such a character driven series. Readers who love strong men and women who can beat the odds will just love this book. Bottom Line: I loved this book. From the first glimpse of Cole and Shannon as teenagers to the moment they face off in the tattoo parlor nine years later. Young does such a wonderful job with everything from characterization to setting. This is a contemporary novel that will rock readers and bring them from tears to laughter more than once. It is very emotional and poignant, yet it is gritty and rough around the edges. It tends to be a bit harsh sometimes and soft at others, keeping the readers emotions in turmoil most of the book and I totally loved that. It made me melt and it made me simmer. Such a good book!
