Chapter One
According to Julie’s best friend and business partner, Sasha, men only bought flowers for two reasons: to get in your pants, or to get back in your pants. While Julie didn’t think that to be an absolute truth, once Sasha made up her mind, she didn’t often change it.
The front door of Petal Pushers, the floral shop they owned together, opened with a melodic ring. After seeing the two customers walk in, Julie decided to make her case once again.

The front desk receptionist took their names and then showed them to a small conference room. “Mr. Covington will be right with you.”
Julie’s head spun to Sasha. “What did she say?”
Sasha looked just as surprised. “Apparently he has an idea about the flowers after all.”
Fortunately or unfortunately, depending on how she looked at it, Julie didn’t have time to dwell on anything. Within mere seconds, the door opened and Daniel breezed into the room. He wore a light gray suit and a bright blue tie that complemented his eyes. There was a look of momentary surprise as he noticed Sasha, but he was all smiles when he turned to Julie and held out his hand.

A wary expression crossed her friend’s face, but Sasha pursed her lips together and nodded. “I’ll be in the car, Julie.”

“Julie,” Daniel said when the door closed. “It fits you. May I call you Julie?”
Determined not to appear as flustered as she felt, she smiled. “If I can call you Daniel.”
“Of course.” Was it her imagination or did his eyes darken as he spoke? “I was wondering, Julie, if you would be at the benefit outside of your professional capacity?”
The tickets were a hundred dollars a plate, nothing she could afford. “No, I’ll be there before it starts, but I’ll leave after everything’s set up.”
He took a step closer to her and her heart raced faster. “Would you come, then? As my date?”

A week later, she was putting the final touches on a funeral arrangement when Sasha came through the door. It was Wednesday. Recently, Sasha had been taking a long lunch on Wednesdays to spend time with her latest boyfriend, Peter.

His expression lightened when he saw her and he walked over. “Hey, come on in. Let me take your coat.”

He seemed completely unaffected, hanging the coat on the rack beside the door. “You want to get a table while I order?”
She told him what she wanted, medium latte and a blueberry scone, then found a secluded corner table and waited. He hadn’t been in line long when a young woman approached him. The look troubled Julie a bit. It had been so cold and stern, and seemed totally out of character for Daniel. At least, it seemed out of character for what she knew of Daniel so far. Maybe she hadn’t read him as well as she thought.
She asked him about it when he found her minutes later. “Did that chick hit on you?”
He placed her latte and scone in front of her. “Yes, some people can’t take no for an answer.”
“Some people are really bold. I can’t imagine approaching a stranger in a coffee shop.”
He took a sip from his cup. “She wasn’t a stranger.”
Did that make her an ex, a friend who wanted more, maybe a business associate? She wanted to ask, but didn’t. It was their first date; she had no claims on him and he owed her no explanations.
“I’m very selective about who I go out with,” he said.
She raised an eyebrow and he laughed.
“That sounds a bit snobbish, doesn’t it?” he asked.
“Slightly. You make it sound like you think the rest of us will date anyone with a basic grasp of the English language and most of their teeth.”
“Let me rephrase, then.” He sat thinking for several seconds before finally giving up. “Nah. I’ve got nothing.”

Successful businesswoman Julie Masterson runs a popular flower shop with her friend Sasha. There, she encounters Daniel Covington, Vice President of Weston Bank, when he comes into the shop to purchase flowers for a family member's ballet recital. The attraction between Julie and Daniel is instantaneous and they quickly find themselves in bed together. But Daniel is a respected Dominant within the local BDSM community and while he enjoys the vanilla sex he shares with Julie, he craves a deeper relationship with her, something that will allow his Dominant side to come out. But before Daniel can broach the topic with her, Julie agrees to attend a BDSM informational session with Sasha, an openly submissive woman who has invited Julie to these meetings many times before. Once there, Julie immediately runs into a stunned Daniel, the Master running that night's session.
Despite her friendship with Sasha, Julie is innocent when it comes to the BDSM lifestyle, but is curious to learn more. She's bold and possesses the shrewd confidence required to run a thriving business. Daniel is intrigued by Julie's repressed submissive nature. He is confident without being an alpha-male jerk. He is supportive of Julie exploring her sexuality, but doesn't try to force her into a lifestyle she may not be ready for.
I think this provides a well-rounded, yet mild look into the BDSM lifestyle - the good and bad, the sensual and scary. Most of the story centers around Julie and Daniel's exploration of Julie's growing understanding of her submissive nature and the internal and external conflicts that arise as a result. As Daniel must slowly introduce Julie to the lifestyle and what it means to be a submissive, so too is the reader's introduction to the same. Accordingly, the sex between Julie and Daniel is very light on the BDSM - some spanking, light whipping, and a play room, but that is really about as far as it goes. Now, there is mention of a session between secondary characters gone very bad (someone ends up in the hospital), but nothing is described in great detail.
Unfortunately, as for the story and characters, both are fairly thin. The plot is largely carried by Julie and Daniel's internal conflicts. Not a whole lot happens outside the characters' heads. And although readers are given a little bit of Daniel's backstory, we are told almost nothing about Julie before the book begins.
Seduced by Fire wasn't bad, but it wasn't exactly memorable either.

I've hit a bit of a wall when it comes to BDSM-centric novels. I still like them for the most part, but I want a story that is as much about the mental and emotional aspects than the physical. I've recently started seeing the name Tara Sue Me (interesting name, right?) around the blogosphere, along with several positive reviews. When her latest release Seduced by Fire was offered for review, I decided to give her a try.
I'm glad I did. While I was not blown away by Seduced by Fire, I did like it. Julie and Daniel were the typical BDSM couple, with him being a Dom and her willing to explore her submissive side. (Sidenote: I want to read a book with the gender roles reversed. Bad.) While I did find them typical- which is fine, btw - I did appreciate a couple of things. One, Daniel isn't an alphahole jerk who storms around town clearing Julie's path and making grown men cry. And two, I liked that despite him instinctively *knowing* Julie is a submissive and hoping to help her see that, Daniel wasn't hell bent on forcing the lifestyle on her. He gently pushed Julie towards acceptance, but was willing to step back if she resisted. That was refreshing. Another interesting and surprising turn was the exploration of the dangerous side of BDSM, involving Julie's best friend Sasha. I really liked that this secondary story was included, and that the aftermath wasn't brushed over.
So. I did truly enjoy the sexual side of the relationship. And let me just add that while those scenes didn't occupy a huge part of the story, they were each very sexy and I believe that intimate scenes are definitely a strong point for the author. Despite my enjoyment of those scenes and the emotional and mental sides to the BDSM, I didn't feel a particularly strong connection between Julie and Daniel in the other areas of their relationship. Maybe I was supposed to feel the implications, but I didn't. I got that they were attracted to one another sexually, and that they liked each other, but I didn't feel the great love.
I found Seduced by Fire to be a very interesting read. I read it fairly quickly, and never felt disinterest. Though the resolution seemed a bit rushed, I was satisfied with the way the story wrapped up. I will say that I am very interested in a slight secondary story, between Dena and Jack, a submissive and her former Master. There was some serious intensity between these two, and I hope the second Partners in Play novel is about them.

This book was very disappointing! Only 160 pages long and the characters were insubstantial. Very little
time was spent devoloping the relationship between the lovers.

I was so disappointed. I really enjoyed the Submissive Trilogy as much for the great writing, characters and story line as for the erotica and
looked forward to the same in Fire. It is quite short.
I enjoyed the characters but would've liked more of them. I thought the story line was thin, at best, and the erotic scenes
left much to be desired. They fall far short of the Submissive books. I was a TSM true-believer, but am now a sceptic and wary of future books.
It seems as though this one was hastily written.

Until she meets Daniel Covington, the Senior VP of Weston Bank shows her a whole new side of dark and dangerous.
Daniel is well respected in his community and hasn't had a steady relationship in a while. Until Julie shows up in his life making him rethink everything he thought he knew. He wants to show her what they both could have and enjoy without scaring her off.
I have loved Tara Sue Me and her Submissive series and this new series it just as good if not better! Tara keeps getting better and better with every story she writes! I will continue to be a fan-girl when it comes to Tara Sue Me's work. The dynamic between Daniel and Julie is hot and erotic. You as the reader can't help but root for these two to work their issues out and get together. I also love how Tara brings real everyday issues concerning the BDSM community into this novel and not making them trivial or making light of them.
This may be even better than her first trilogy! Well done!

This book is AMAZING. Not sure what the last person who reviewed this is thinking when they say it is only 160 pages. Not sure what book they were reading!!! I love the characters and there is so much drama and angst. Keep writing Tara. Can't wait for Deena and Jeff!!!

Readers will be both captivated and emotionally invested in this story about a young woman who dares to make her hidden desires known. The author does a phenomenal job of bringing the BDSM community to life in a way that educates readers without terrifying them. Tara Sue Me's writing drifts like a stream with ripples and waves, as the reader ebbs and flows along with it. Her prose is elegant and her descriptions are so tempting readers might just give in. A great new book from a well respected voice in the genre.
What I liked:
Tara Sue Me has written a book about, what I think is an extremely realistic version of a BDSM relationship. The ups and the downs, the ins and the outs. She doesn't sugar coat, she doesn't glorify, she doesn't even take liberties with the feelings of her characters. She lays it out there and lets the reader decide what to make of it. She isn't trying to convince the reader, or even change their minds, it just is the way it is, the good and the bad. I thought it was compelling. It was expressive, extremely sensual without being smutty. Erotic romance can be rough around the edges, but this author gives it an elegance and sophistication that was wonderful to read.
Julie is a businesswoman, and that roll denotes a sense of authority needed to make it in the business world. She had an underlying submissive nature that was not at all far fetched. I thought Me did a fantastic job of allowing the reader to see what someone who had no BDSM experience might see when they are first exposed to it. Julie shows a curiosity to see if this lifestyle is what she needed to fulfill her longings. I thought she exhibited all of the attributes of a butterfly coming out of it's cocoon as she found what she needed to make her sexual life as well as the rest of her world make sense. She was a wonderful character, who showed all of the good feelings associated with this kind of trust and the fears that can sometimes cloud the experience.
Daniel was a Dom with a heart. Sometimes it isn't the power that drives the Dom to do what he does. I think the author was able to convey so many different things with this character. At times he showed deep love and understanding, he showed command and dominance, but in a way that was not overpowering or contemptible. When someone both he and Julie know well is harmed in the BDSM community, he is stricken and shows compassion and heart. I just loved him. He was not only sensitive to Julie's feelings but his own as well. The fact that he was hot certainly didn't hurt either. A great well rounded character.
What I didn't like:
I learned a lot about Daniel and his back story throughout this novel. I was introduced to several characters that I think will probably play a part in the series as it continues, but I still felt that Julie was a bit allusive. Her back story didn't quite develop like Daniels did. That may be something that will happen throughout the series, or maybe not. But I wanted to know more about her.
Bottom Line:
If you think you want to try something in the erotic genre, this is the kind of book to start with. One that doesn't sugar coat the dark aspects, but also doesn't short change the deep and soul stirring experiences that those who find the right niche can have. It's well written and has a sense of class and elegance about it. Try this one... you won't be disappointed.
