The Cavanaugh brothers left behind River Black, Texas, long ago. But after their father dies, bequeathing them the Triple C, a cattle ranch that sustains their small town, they return—and confront the painful memories of their childhood home and the truth about their sister’s murder…

For years, James Cavanaugh has traveled the world as a horse whisperer, but even the millions he’s earned hasn’t healed the pain he hides behind his stoic exterior. Forced to tackle old demons at the ranch, James throws himself into work to avoid his true feelings. Until he meets a woman who shakes the foundations of his well-built walls…

Sheridan O’Neil’s quiet confidence has served her well, except when it comes to romance. Refusing to allow her heard to led her to disaster, she chooses to focus solely on work. But after Sheridan is rescued from a horse stampede by the most beautiful cowboy she’s ever met, her vow to keep her heart penned wavers. Only, as Sheridan uncovers James’s belief that no woman is safe with him, she wonders if such a wounded man could ever give in to love, or if some hearts are too broken to be healed.…

Type A personality Sheridan O'Neil has her priorities firmly in hand, and wildly sexy horse whisperer James Cavanaugh does not figure into them in Wright's lackluster contemporary western. Sheridan, the personal assistant to James's powerful brother, has no desire to rock her stable career boat for a cowboy, no matter how attractive he is. Witnessing her mother's devoted marriage crumble due to the careless whim of her father taught Sheridan that men and love are not to be trusted. But longing glances, fiery lust, and an undeniable connection with James point to her romantic downfall even as she struggles to keep her guard up. Meanwhile, an old Cavanaugh family tragedy underpins the series story line, driving the main characters as well as a multitude of minor ones to various actions and sometimes muddling the central romantic plot. Characters straight out of central casting, a reliance on tired clichés, and overly dramatic responses to most situations result in a forgettable read. (Oct.)

Broken by Laura Wright is the 2nd book in her The Cavanaugh Brot

Broken by Laura Wright is the 2nd book in her The Cavanaugh Brothers series. The first book in this series, Branded was a wonderful story, with a bit of mystery and a fabulous couple. I didn’t think Laura Wright could match Deacon and Mac, but I am happy to say I didn’t need to worry. Broken is just as good, with another fabulous couple.

James Cavanaugh is our hero, and the second brother, who is another hottie. James is a horse whisperer, and at the end of the first book, he decided to stay longer to help find a place for the wild mustangs. Sheridan O’Neil is our heroine, and I loved her from the get go. Sheridan (don’t call her Sheri), is Deac’s assistant, and a very good one. She is a smart, tough, savvy business woman, and loves her job. At the end of the first book, she met James and immediately they both felt the attraction. Well in Broken, the attraction between them is burning up, and they both have difficulties trying to ignore the heat. James doesn’t want to get involved, as he has his own demons, where he blames himself for various things that have happened over the years to the women he has cared for. One of course, was his sister Cass, whom we learned in the first book, was killed 20 years ago, with the case still unsolved.

Sheridan besides her normal job, is helping Mac with her wedding plans. I enjoyed seeing Sheridan and Mac becomes fast friends. What I loved about Laura Wright’s writing of this series is how she handles this wonderful romance. Through more than half the book, we see and feel the explosive chemistry between James and Sheridan. Wright lights the fire, and lets it slowly build, reaching a point that we were so ready for them to succumb to the lust between them. The steamy sex between them was so wonderfully done, and my kindle had to be cooled off often. This was a fantastic sexy romance, between a couple meant for each other, even with the demons holding one of them back. I loved loved James and Sheridan together.

What I also loved about this romance was the build-up of this romance, that was hot from the beginning, but Laura Wright allowed us to feel the heat, and suffer the wait too. Lol So much fun, and so worth the wait. I am not a big fan of instant romance and sex on page 2 of a book. Broken is how it should be done. Bravo to Laura Wright for a fabulous story, and series that has every thing you would want; Super romance with a sexy couple; hot steamy sex, mystery, family atmosphere in a ranch town, great secondary characters. Well done.

James Cavanaugh feels he has failed the women in his life and do

James Cavanaugh feels he has failed the women in his life and doesn't want to get involved romantically, fearing that, if he does, he loses another. Sheridan saw her mother suffer for love and doesn't want into a romantic relashionship. However, the attraction between them since the first time they met, is irresistable.

It was touching seeing these two people fighting against their feelings for each other. Especially James, it saddened me how he feels for loosing his sister, then the mother and later his fiancée and his certainty that, if he starts a relationshio with Sheridan, he'll loose her too.

I loved Sheridan, she's such a perfect professional that I envy her a lot. :)

Their unwillingness in getting involved with each other complete these characters, turning them a perfect couple. The author achieved in turning them so real, that I felt like they were real people and I was beside them.

Another aspect of the book, the Cavanaugh brothers looking for answers to their sister's disappearance and murder completed this enthralling story and already introcudes the next couple. I'm anxious for their book.

Broken by Laura Wright is a must read!

Broken, by Laura Wright is the second book in the Cavanaugh Brothers series and once again proved how versatile a writer Ms. Wright is as, she had me packing my bags, ready to move to the Triple C.

James, the sexy, horse whispering middle brother of the Cavanaugh boys, has a difficult past with women which has him convinced to keep all relationships at arm's length. After years of abuse and neglect by both his parents due to a childhood tragedy that he blames himself for, James left his family behind with tons of emotional baggage the moment he turned 18. Now years later, he's back on the family ranch with his brothers and is ready to once again hit the road, just as soon as he can find the perfect land for a pack of wild horses that has been dumped in his care & maybe even help solve a family mystery that has scared each of the Cavanaugh men for years, while he's there.

Even though James has one boot out the door, his mantra of no relationships is challenged the night he find's his oldest brother's assistant, a stunningly beautiful woman, stranded on the side of the road. As he learns more about Deac's stubborn and yet gorgeous employee, Sheridan, he vows to uphold his no relationships policy; even though he can't seem to keep his eyes or mind off of her.

Sheridan O'Neil, the career focused personal assistant for Decan Cavanaugh is not thrilled when she's sent from the big city of Dallas, Texas to River Black, but she's intent to not let this small detour get her off track from her future of running a business of her own. The only problem, her resolve to make no connections to the people of the tiny ranching community is crumbling as she falls not only head over boot heals in love with James but also finds a friend and confidant in Decan's fiance, Mac.

I loved the way that James & Sheridan's relationship developed. They didn't just jump straight into bed despite their mutual, scorching attraction to each other. I was happy that Sheridan wasn't a push over and when challenged by the steel reinforced wall's that James has built around his heart, chose what was best for her instead of allowing him to call all the shots.

The other characters stories seamlessly blended into the main one, and gave a really nice break to the overall story; keeping me reading on to see what would happen next. There is also more than one cliff hanger which makes me hungry for the next book to see how all of the lose ends will be tied up.

My only complaint was that it felt like in the end, James and Sheridan, were almost thrown back together and forced to stick. I wish that there would have been a little more build up to Jame's return into Sheridan's life. Aside from that though, this was a fantastic book that I would highly recommend to others and also can absolutely not wait to read where Laura will take us next with this intriguing family.

Bk#2 in the Cavanaugh Brother Series. The series revolves around the Triple C Ranch, the 4 Cavanaugh Brothers and the mystery

surrounding the murder of their sister. This is the story of James Cavanaugh the "Horse Whisperer". He left the ranch and the ugliness behind never to return. When his father dies and leaves the ranch to the brothers, James returns to confront his demons. Woven throughout the story are snippets of Cass's diary, the brothers trying to solve the mystery of their sister's death, James's guilt on his inability to protect the women in his life, and the beginning of a relationship with Sheridan, who works for his brother. I really enjoyed this story. Witty dialogue, great sex. Can't wait for Cole and Blue's story.

James has had past experience with relationships that has scared him off from forming a new one.
Sheridan has had it set in her mind since she was younger that depending on someone else just brings you heartache.
These two feel the "spark" from their first meeting. A friendship is made. When Sheridan is attached James's past hits him hard. Can he over come it?

Sheridan is seeing she wants a different life for herself and living in the past is not helping. So she finally decides to move on from it.

Can they work things out? Will James loose what he has come to want and need?

The banter between Sheridan and James is hilarious. It is a great story that picks up right where the first one pretty much left off. It was like I never left the story. :)
The suspense of the past keeps the story moving. Along with the characters strong will to get all the answers that the want/need.

Can such a wounded man ever give in to love? Meet the man will have to face his demons in this heart gripping contemporary romance. James Cavanaugh throws himself into work to avoid his true feelings until Sheridan shakes the very foundations of his well-built walls but is his heart too broken to be healed… I fell for the Cavanaugh brothers in the first book and I must say they have stolen even more of my heart with this one.  Looking for answers to what happened to their sisters adds danger and excitement and as they slowly uncover information, they start to heal the pain of the past and look toward the future. James and Sheridan’s story ensnared me from the very beginning and I can’t wait to read the next one.

This series just keeps getting better and better.. I love these Cavanaugh brothers and I liked James a lot better than I did Deacon.
James has been hurt several times in his past, but he has placed the blame of all of his loses on his shoulders and blames himself for losing everyone that he gets close to. So to avoid everything and tackle his demons, he throws himself into his works and his love for horses.
Sheridan loves her job and plans on returning home as soon as Deacon and Mac’s wedding is over. What she doesn’t expect is the way that she feels when she is around James. Since she has been rejected in the past she has sworn off men, even hot horse whispers, and throws herself into work. She knows that if James can’t talk to her and tell her what is going on with him that, her heart is in serious trouble, and she knows that it will end up broken in the end if she doesn’t walk away and return home.
I love how they finally face their feelings for each other.

~ 4.5 Broken Stars ~ A country ride full of emotions, mystery, and romance.

     ARC Broken

I am not a contemporary reader, but I am trying to branch out. I have found a few authors that I enjoy and Ms. Wright is one that has pulled me in and not disappointed.

Broken is book two in The Cavanugh Brothers series by Laura Wright. Hot dam this was another Amazing Fabulous reading in The Cavanaugh Brothers series. I love these sexy cowboy brothers. I was pulled in and taken on a country ride full of emotions, mystery, and romance.

Sheridan O’Neil, what can I say only that she is a career driven women and Decan Cavanuaugh is her boss. She also has some hang ups on relationships, but despite that she decides to be honest with James and see where things lead.

James Cavanuaugh, rugged handsome horse whisper. I love how confident he comes across and the whole horse whisper thing, wow boy, got me. It was something to read about. James has some hang ups besides his sisters death, but he can’t just let Sheridan go. She is the first women to really get to him.

Broken just adds to this series. I never thought I would be pulled into a contemporary romance, so deeply, but good god Ms. Wright knows how to write. We get deeper into finding out more about Cass and what really happened to her. More heart wrenching emotions and soul deep healing happen for everyone. I loved everything about this book, how the plot is developing, how into the characters I get, and how the writing flows. I liked that Sheridan finally got herself a friend with Mac and vis versa. These women are strong and help the brothers deal with their past and come to terms. The diary entries are still my favorite part, besides the romance. They capture the reader’s attention and by the end of the story, you are wanting one more clue. As for the romance it’s sizzling hot. The relationship building is great, the sex, well you may need a fan to cool off. The only thing I thought was rushed is the proposal. For the amount of time they actually spent in a relationship it felt a little fast, but I still enjoyed it.

If you have not not picked up The Cavanaugh Brothers yet, I highly recommend you do. The author has created a murder mystery romance, with some sexy cowboys. We are kept on our toes with the twists and surprises that just add spice and depth to the story.

Broken is the second book in the Cavanaugh Brother's Series. James Cavanaugh, known as the Horse Whisperer and Sheridan O'Neil, Deacon Cavanaughs personal assistant.

I'm loving this new series by Laura Wright. It's fresh has enough drama to keep you reading and romance. But the romance isn't in your face romance and it takes time for the two of them to get together, but when they do? WOW.

The title seems fitting as they are both broken in some way. James is dealing with being back on the family ranch and the murder of his sister Cass and Sheridan is dealing with keeping personal relationships at bay all because her father left when she was little and her mother reinforced her anger into her, but as Sheridan once said.. Love Is a Risk.

The mystery behind Cass's abduction and murder is an interesting one and I really hope we learn more as to who this mysterious "Sweet" person was,Through glimpses from her missing diary. Who kidnapped and murdered her. Let the Cavanaugh brothers finally put their sister to rest and let the family heal.

I can't wait to read about Cole.

Laura Wright is a down right tease and I. LOVE. IT! This series

Laura Wright is a down right tease and I. LOVE. IT! This series captivated me in book one, consumed me with book two, and left me grasping for book three. James Cavanaugh is a man hiding from life. Or at least from love. Every woman he's loved has met some terrible fate or another. So when he meets Sheridan, the only woman to breathe the life back into him, he fights the attraction. Finds every conceivable excuse to keep his hands off of her. That is, until they've become so wrapped up in this foreplay dance that she gives him no choice but to give in. She tempts him, just as he tempts her. But can she make him believe in love, and come to terms with his past?

James is a straight up, heaven sent, sexy as hell cowboy AKA one of my favorite heroes. Why? The gruff mannerisms, the sweet heart, the undeniably smoking charm and dirty talk. Gotta love it. But James also has his demons. The demons that still follow him to this day. His emotions and hurt just scream out to the reader. Making me desperately want to give him a hug or bake him a cake. Meanwhile, Sheridan is just a tough as nails heroine that can turn a cowboy around in circles until he doesn't know which was is up and can only find his way back to her. These two together played a very heated game of cat and mouse. I almost couldn't stand it. Just when you think they going to toe the line forever, Laura Wright delivers a fair few scorching numbers from the kitchen to the shower to the bed. And good lord these two were inseparable since. I loved it. They just fell together. Until it all comes crashing down.

At the crux of that crash would be the mystery of the Cavanaugh brothers' dear sister, Cass. She's never been avenged and these men will do anything to find out what really happened the night that threw their entire lives into a tailspin. Going on new information James, Cole and Deacon are still hunting every possible lead down. But the tensions rise and those pesky demons are back to haunt James.

I am busting at the seams to know what will happen in Brash (book #3). The series has continued in a flawless manner. While each brother, thus far, as found the woman to steal his heart, each book edges us closer to learning the truth. It's a perfect concoction of romance and mystery. You get the full fledged love story of James and Sheridan, and get a few more puzzle pieces about Cass' last days. I know where I want this series to go, but the lovely devil that is Ms. Wright is not giving ANY hints. We'll know when she's ready, and she's not showing her cards yet. Although the thought of Cass and where this series is going is niggling in the back of my mind, James and Sheridan took front row center while I was reading. I loved every bit of their journey and will expect to see more of their lovely encounters in the upcoming book. I would HIGHLY suggest this book for anyone looking for a riveting read. Really, that's the only requirement. You just have to want to read a terrific book and I'm sure you'll love this one.

    Happy Reading!

    NUMBER OF HEARTS: 3 1/2
    REVIEW:
Being back on the Triple C Ranch is great. Love me some hot, alpha male cowboy. But James and Sheridan were lacking something for me. Oh yes, there were times that I just loved them. But there were also times that I felt a little disconnected with them. It could be the error of mystery that the Cavanaugh brothers have been trying to solve for yes. It could have been James’ demons of his past. I am not sure. But even with that it was a good story and it left me wanting to know more about what really happened to Cass. I am looking forward to the next book in this series.

This is the second instalment in The Cavanaugh Brothers series and it centres around James, the mysterious horse whisperer brother.

James has travelled the world working with horses and avoiding the Triple C, a ranch previously ran by his father. When a group of wild mustang brings him back to the ranch and forces him to confront a past he would rather forget, he finds himself inexplicably drawn to his brothers personal assistant. Sheridan O'Neil is a no-nonsense business first kind of girl. She has spent most of her life avoiding making personal connections as a misguided way of trying not to get hurt. When James rides into her life and pushes her in ways she never thought possible, it has her re-examining her ideals and goals.

I love James and Sheridan together, they both have boxes they slot people in, walls built around themselves and when they meet the sparks fly, they push each other to become better versions of themselves. I love the overall story arc and how we are slowly gathering clues as to what really happened to Cassie that fateful day. I highly recommend this series and if you want to give it a go, I urge you read them in order.

    Review:

This is the second book in the series and in this story we get to know James and Deacon's assistant, Sheridan better.  This is a great series!  The continuity between the books and the thread of the mysterious death of their sister Cass really shows what a great writer Ms. Wright is.  I love these characters and the terrible things that they have endured and are still trying to come to grips with, all the while finding that one person who can help with their burdens. The way the Author uses Cass's diary to help weave the past and the present is done expertly and keeps me guessing on who "Sweet" is.

Poor James, he really does seem to be cursed where the women in his life are concerned.  He such an awesome hero, smart, talented, caring, but truly has been scarred by past events.  Sheridan has definitely been shaped by her past, but she seems more open/willing to put herself out there at least where James is concerned.  I liked that they did not immediately "fix" each other but had to work at it.  I also thought the blooming friendship between Sheridan and Mac sweet and fun.

This is an excellent series, but it really must be read in order. Besides, the first is awesome too!  The next book is supposed to be Cole's and Grace's story and the way these two have interacted so far is explosive and getting deeper into the details of Cass's death for Cole and all the Cavanaugh brothers, should be a emotional story.

I received an ARC in exchange for a review of this book. OMG, when a book can grab you and take you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and make you keep turning the pages is a book so worth! The Cavanaugh Brothers are so heart melting. I read BRANDED, the first book in the series and absolutely fell in love and couldn’t wait for BROKEN the second book of the series. I was anticipating the second book to be just as amazing as the first.

BROKEN was so much more than I expected. James and Sheridan are the couple in this book. James is the “Horse Whisperer” coming back to the ranch for their father’s funeral and finding out that their father led a double life. Sheridan is James’s older brother’s PA. These two have put up emotional walls and have avoided relationships. I love these two, the sparks fly and the way that their relationship is a natural progression was terrific. When they do get together it is like WOW! Add to the fact that more clues are being brought out as to what really happened when the brothers’ sister Cassie was abducted and murdered, you have a fantastic read.

I just want to gather the HOT and SEXY Cavanaugh brothers together and hug them. Well I can think of other things I’d like to as well, you get the picture. I highly recommend this whole series starting with BRANDED you will NOT be disappointed. I cannot wait for Cole’s story. I have a feeling that his is going to be one hell of a ride as well. Bravo Ms. Wright!
