The last McKay standing is knocked to his knees...

Rough Riders, Book 15

Three years ago, Dalton McKay looked across the altar and saw the woman he knew he'd love for the rest of his life...only it wasn't his bride. That's when he took the McKays' love-'em-and-leave-'em reputation to new heights-fleeing the ceremony and Wyoming.

Now a family issue has brought Dalton back to Sundance, giving him a chance to prove to everyone-especially the woman he thought he lost-that he's a changed man.

Aurora "Rory" Wetzler has fallen for cowboy hottie Dalton's smooth-talkin' ways too many times. So he's determined to convince her he's playing for keeps this go around? Fine. She'll call that bluff-she can't ignore their intense chemistry or resist smokin' hot sex, but she's not willing to gamble her heart again.

Dalton has plenty of fences to mend with the McKays, but his biggest fear is that Rory doesn't believe they have a future. He'll have to pull out all the stops to show her they belong together for the long haul.

Warning: Contains a sexy cowboy who tames his sassy lady love with his romantic and his kinky side. In explicit detail.

She's done it again! Ms James has this incredible way of making her characters real. They're all flawed, sometimes bruised, sometimes clueless, amazing, honest, and believable characters. I find it so hard to believe that after 15 books in a series Lorelei James still makes every book feel like the first one. I will never be able to pick a favorite book, as they are all amazing in there own way. I always find myself wanting to go to Wyoming and track down the McKay men so I can have them all to myself... Well I guess I'll have to settle for having em all in my library instead of in my bed *sigh* Anywhoo, the book was amazing, the writing style great, the feelings were deep without coming off as forced yada yada ya.... And I swear Lorelei James can make a sentence that, on its own would sound cheesy, into some damn beautiful words. Guess that makes me cheesy then huh?

The last McKay standing is knocked to his knees… Dalton McKay left Addie at the alter and five days later left town altogether.  Now three years later he is back and he is determined to win the one woman he has not been able to get out of his mind.  Rory has known Dalton since she was six.  He punched her V-card and they’ve had a few hot encounters after which Dalton has always left.  Now he wants her to believe he has changed but she isn’t sure she can afford to let him break her heart again.  This Redneck Romeo is going to have to bring out his a-game if he wants to win his Juliette.
Lorelei James is the Queen of sexy cowboy romance.  This book is proof positive that she can keep it coming just as hot as ever with a story that will have you staying up late to finish.  I hope we get to check in with the McKays in the future.

    must read

We finally get Dalton's story. The last single McKay Wildman is all grown up and ready to claim his woman. Dalton comes back to town due to a family illness and ends up resolving the issues that caused him to leave town in the first place. Dalton makes it clear he isn't happy being back but then he finds a reason to stay...his friend Rory changes everything.

Rory has no intention of getting to know the new Dalton. She doesn't quite believe that he has changed but decides to give their friendship another chance.

Rory and Dalton are two people that have changed so much through the series. It is great to finally have their story but also a little sad because it is the final chapter in the Rough Rider series. LJ does leave you feeling good about the book and series. We also get appearances from past McKays, their spouses and children.

This is a must read. Especially if you love her Rough Riders series. If you are knew to her work then I recommend reading the whole series. This series is on my keeper shelf.

Another McKay Masterpiece!  Dalton returns home after his father

Another McKay Masterpiece!  Dalton returns home after his father becomes ill.  Not that he and Casper have a relationship but he comes home at his brother's request.  He has been away for several years after running from the altar.  When he does get back, he runs into the reason he has been gone-Rory.  As they try to find their way around the hurts of the past, they find that the attraction for each other is stronger than ever.  Both have grown up in the years that Dalton has been gone.  He knows that Rory is what he wants and will go to any lengths to prove to her that the has changed.  As with all of her Rough Rider books, Miss James also gives you an update on all of the other members of the McKay and West family.  Although there is only 1 more book in the series, I am hoping that Miss James will occasionally offer us a novella, as she did with Short Rides, that will give us updates into the lives of our favorite ranching family.

Dalton, Dalton, Dalton…*sigh* Oh how I love thee! I NEVER thought I would say that. See, after COWBOY CASANOVA I was so mad at him I didn’t think he would be able to redeem himself enough that I would fall for him. I mean, I always trust Ms. James to deliver a great book but some heroes are closer to the heart than others. Well, Dalton made me fall….hard!

I’ve been impatiently waiting to find out what went on between Rory and Dalton as we’ve gotten glimpses here and there in the past few books. Well, as some of you might’ve guessed, this book takes place a few years in the future from where GONE COUNTRY left off. Dalton has gone off and grown up. Leaving some of his McKay childish, stubborn ways behind him. He comes back more mature, a man. Grizzly beard an all.

I started to fall for him when I realize there would be no fighting the attraction for Dalton. He knows from page one that he wants Rory for himself, finally. And he really stops at nothing to get her there. He’s determined, he’s sexy in his seduction and with just enough humor to make him real. And yes, I’ll say it again… all the more reasons to fall for him…hard!

But lets not leave Rory out of this equation. As I often find with Ms. James’ heroines, she’s amazing. She’s got a strong but delicate core, she can face the world but she also needs love and attention. And she has one weakness. Dalton! I totally understand her.

Their chemistry is off the charts, their courting is endearing and extremely hot. But their love is not something that sprung out of nowhere. It’s always been there, growing and getting stronger. This book just shows that it can withstand anything so they can be together because they were meant to be.

And then there’s the drama around them… The main reason Dalton had come back was because Casper had a heart attack and was in the hospital. Sometimes I wish the bastard would’ve died a long time ago. He could’ve saved many people a lot of heartache. But as we find out in this book, Casper had more to dish out.

This book is beautifully written, the storylines flow seamlessly to weave the perfect picture of the McKay family we come to love and care about. Leaving you as always wanting more. I do think these get better and better! Haven’t read the series yet? You are MISSING OUT!

Now if only we could get Sierra’s story :)

    Favorite Quotes:

“Spend every waking hour that you’re not working with me.”

Dalton tugged her closer by her hair. “Alls you gotta do is say the word, sugarplum, and I’ll be on my knees before you.”

    Excellent! Rough Rider Series

Lorelei James knows how to tell a story. No other writer can compare. I have read this series a few times because I am always wanting more. I wish they never had to end. Unlike other authors who have 300 pages or less and charge $10, Lorelei charges less and more pages and what a story. Sorry to hear only one more book coming but I understand. I often find myself daydreaming wishing I was in Wyoming and young again. lol I'm gonna miss the McKay Family.

This series is absolutely fantastic. I've never disappointed with ANYTHING she has written! There are 16 books in all in the Rough Rider Series starting with the Long Hard Ride and ending with Cowboy Take Me Away. If you've never read anything by Lorelei James you really should. You have no idea what you're missing.

    Loved it!

Please write a book about the next generation of McKays. Like maybe start with Cord's son. I enjoyed reading about the him. He should get his own book, set maybe when he's 22 or 23 years old.

Only my second book by LJ. Enjoyed the story but there were too many sex scenes. I do enjoy them but not to the point they begin to get boring.

Definitely check ALL of her books out!

All her stories are connected, but they can be read individually. They all tell the stories of several families.
