Over-rated

I was surprised when I went back and re-read the reviews after reading this book. The reviewers were really soft on the slooow pace of this story. The characters were likeable but the plot was so implausible that I was annoyed with both of them by the end. In general, I have found this author's books to be getting worse and worse. She used to be an automatic buy, but that's no longer true. This effort did nothing to redeem my opinion.

Delightful
The Scandalous Adventures of the sister of the Bride is another delightful book by Mrs. Victoria Alexander. This is a story about Delilah and Sam whom they have nothing in common except desire and passion. Delilah is a British heroine more concern with propriety ( only one adventure in America)and value tradition, title and wealth. Sam is an American, aims toward the future and new technology. I love every single books Mrs. Alexander writes, this book has great and fun dialogue. All the characters are fun and lovable. It is an enjoyable and amazing read that keep you smiling through the whole story. Thank you Mrs. Alexander for writing another fabulous book

A Romance Starts With the Beginning of a New Era!




When Lady Delilah Hargate decides to have one adventure in her life she doesn't mess around.  The book begins in America with the widowed Lady Delilah dressing quickly the morning after her first and lasr one night stand with Samuel Russell, the employee of a wealthy business associate of her future brother-in-law.  Lady Delilah returns to England to enact her plan to search for a suitable Society husband who meets her exacting details.  Love, however, is not one of them, after the businesslike attitude her late husband had treated her with.




Sam Russell, Lady Delilah's 'adventure' shows up in England.  Not surprisingly to anyone except Lady D., Sam is not a lowly employee but the wealthy business associate and friend of her impending brother-in-law and he's in town to get additional support for the new horseless carriage he is investing in.  It's a bonus when he runs into the lovely young lady he shared a passionate evening with several months ago and hasn't been able to stop thinking about ever since.




From there it's just a matter of time to see how and when these two acknowledge they belong together.  Of course there's a lot of baggage to handle first.  For starters, he's a free thinking American investing in a venture that could change the world and she is a rigid English society lady who believes in maintaining the status quo. The two develop a sexy fun banter and bickering style as Delilah tries to resist the sweet and seductive charm that attracted her to Sam in the first place and Sam works to get Delilah to open herself to trying a few more new adventures.




This is a Regency era romance that incorporates a glimpse at the beginning of a new age with the introduction of the automobile.  Delilah and Sam make a delightfully delicious couple with strong individual points of view and an equally strong attraction to each other.  They are an entertaining team who get involved in several exciting and arousing adventures together, in and out of bed, before the story's end.

The Dark One *Prolouge* Lilytail

Lilytail smiled at her new born kits, she had a litte of 4. The first one, she had named Deadkit, because when Deadkit had first come, she had seemed dead, so Lilytail had given up, but Deadkit had been strong. She had started mewling and screaming and crying, which the medcat had told Lilytail later that it was impossible for a newborn kit to wail that loud. Lilytail started pushing again, realizing her kits were alive. She had given Deadkit her name, to always remind deadkit that if not for her, all the other kits would be dead. Sunkit, Moonkit, and Starkit had been named for their pelts. Deadkit had had a dark as night coat and dark brown eyes. Sunkit had had the most golden coat ever seen, he had amber eyes. Moonkit had had a gorgeous silver pelt, with a little black crescent shape surrounding her ear, she had icy blue eyes. Starkit had a black pelt with almost shimmery spots of white, and he had green eyes. Lilytail loved her kits, and she hoped they would follow good paths, not the one that there father wanted them to take...

That’s truly what the very proper widowed Lady Delilah Hargate believes so when the only only adventure she’s ever succumbed to shows up at her sister’s wedding Delilah is mortified, and miffed.

Samuel Russell on the other hand has travelled from New York to track down the lady he can’t forget. He’s shocked to learn upon arriving that she’s not whom she said she was but instead the sister of his best friend. The sister who is currently in search of the “perfect man”. She refuses to even acknowledge his presence because he isn’t quite as perfect as she’d prefer – yet, she can’t seem but to ignite when he’s around.

Can Sampson, I mean, Samuel, show Delilah the error of her ways or will the perfect groom appear before he’s able?

Oh My Goodness! I loved this. It was so much fun.
I really enjoyed this not just because of the plot but because of the humor. I could not help but to laugh out loud at the conversations and several times I caught myself crying over their memories. This book was an amazing ride!!

Not overly impressed in the beginning but have acquired a fondne

Not overly impressed in the beginning but have acquired a fondness for the two main characters. Look forward to going back to read the others in the series and then take another stab at this one. It may be one of those books you need to have background.

This is a right to the point romance. They are feeling they know they do not belong together but they work so well together. Delilah& Samuel have a brief past neither will mention to get through the wedding of loved ones. This may not be the wise course of action but it works for them.

Alexander give me a historical romance to enjoy. I am not over the moon with it but I do like it.

This was a cute story. For me that means there is more chuckling

This was a cute story. For me that means there is more chuckling than crying. It is also a bit more on the later side of history than I usually read. It all came out to the good. It is set just before the turn of the century. American Sam is best friends with Englishman Gray. Sam is going to England for Gray' s wedding. He also wants to build and sell the "horseless carriage". He meets up with Delilah who he met in NY awhile ago. He loves her. She loves him. But boy they sure can take the long, hard road to accept that. That's where the humor and hard times come in. No major spoilers here so grab your copy and see what I mean.

This is book 3 in the Millworth Manor series. Lady Delilah Harg

This is book 3 in the Millworth Manor series.

Lady Delilah Hargate, a widow, has just spent an amazing night with a man that she has just met. Being half way across the world means that she can forget about her adventure and return to England where she will go about finding that perfect spouse. Unfortunately for Delilah, she can't stop thinking about it, She soon learns that her one night stand has ended up in England and has no desire for her to forget about their amazing night together. 

Samuel Russell can't seem to get Delilah out of his mind. When he ends up in England on business, he decides to show up early for his friend's wedding. It doesn't hurt that he might get to spend more time with the woman that has taken over all of his thoughts.

Delilah can't believe that Sam has shown up for the wedding. She thought he was just a clerk or some other employee. She never imagined that he was the boss and really good friends with her future brother-in-law. If she had known that there was any chance she would see him again, she wouldn't have had an adventure with him.

Sam is surprised to learn that Delilah is Lady Hargate and not just Mrs. Hargate. She also happens to be the sister of his best friend's fiancee.  But for Sam, that changes nothing.  He wants get to know Delilah better, but she thinks they are too different from each other.  Can they work out their differences for the chance of true love?

Loved, loved, loved this story.  Some of my favorite stories have characters that banter back and forth with each other and there is plenty of that between Delilah and Sam. We are introduced to Delilah in "What Happens at Christmas", but you really don't learn much about her other than the fact that she has not been very close to her older twin sisters. To try to rectify it, she acts as a chaperone for one of them while they travel to America on business. This is where all the fun begins.

I really liked the Sam character. He was a self-made man that wasn't afraid to go after what he wanted in business as well as in his personal life. It wasn't until Delilah had wore him down that he finally gave up the chase.  An unexpected person, shows Sam that he should never give up on what he wants and he quickly rectifies the situation.

I loved seeing characters from the previous novels and catching up with them.  The novel included a preview of the next book in the series and I CAN NOT wait to read it!!!

In The Scandalous Adventures of the Sister of the Bride, Victoria Alexander takes readers to 1887 New York City, then back to England and Millworth Manor; the majestic family estate of the Earl and Countess of Briston, and their charismatic and delightfully eccentric family and friends.

I loved everything about Delilah and Samuel's romance and hated for this wonderful story to end. The discussions, interactions, and banter between the hero and heroine and Millworth Manor's entire "unique" ensemble of characters was so marvelously clever, spirited, and genuinely amusing--that that I was completely absorbed with their antics from beginning to end. And personally, I wouldn't mind being part of this likable family because I know life would certainly never be dull. :)

I thought Delilah and Samuel were extremely well-matched leading characters. I loved the chemistry between them and felt their intimate "tête-à-tête" conversations were heartfelt and pleasantly provocative. Even with their hugely different cultures--American capitalist vs English nobility--and philosophies, they still complemented each other wonderfully, and their differences made for very entertaining and stimulating conflict in the storyline. Samuel was an ideal hero, but I felt Delilah experienced the most growth throughout the story, and she's become one of my favorite heroines. Keep in mind, however, that when a perfectly proper and normally sensible woman is near to bursting with pent-up emotions and ripe for adventure as well, everyone should watch out when she finally lets her hair down. ;)

Ms. Alexander did a marvelous of job balancing the couple's personal strengths and weaknesses while showing them (and the reader) that it's through considerate and sincere compromise that any relationship can work, and when it does, the future holds countless possibilities for happiness. I felt Delilah and Sam could truly look forward to a future filled with all the wonder of new inventions and innovative ideas blended together with the best of time-honored customs and traditions, as together they began the most exciting adventure of all--Love.

One of the reasons I love historical romance is because I enjoy reading stories about bygone eras and the people who may have lived in that particular time. I find learning about past customs, societies, social order, and early advances in technology fascinating.

Though Victoria Alexander writes and creates stories about purely fictional people, circumstances, and events, I love the way she always incorporates factual historical details throughout her books. And she does it in such a skillful and competent manner that they merge seamlessly within the storyline and feel integral and authentic. This makes for a harmonious blend of fact, fiction, history, enchanting romance, sparkling dialogue, humorous situations--and an excellent book. And The Scandalous Adventures of the Sister of the Bride is one that shouldn't be missed!

What does an American man and a proper English lady have in comm

What does an American man and a proper English lady have in common? Absolutely nothing, but that is what makes this story so funny, special and heart warming!

Lady Delilah Hargate has always been the perfect and proper English lady and has never strayed off her path. When she chaperones her sister, Camille and her fiancé, Grayson to New York, she decides since no one knows her that she is going to have an Adventure. That adventure includes a sexy 'so-called' employee of Grayson's named Mr. Samuel Russell. When she realizes she bite off more than she could chew, she flees his hotel room and then insults Sam by saying, "It never happened!"

Sam Russell is a self-made wealthy man, and Grayson best friend. After Mrs. Hargate flees New York, he can't get her out of his mind or his dreams. He decides to go to the wedding early and find her. What he finds when they meet again face to face, is a very proper English Lady! What Delilah discovers is a man who could steal her heart.

This two characters are complete opposites. Delilah loves English tradition and Sam loves to embrace the changing world. She wants to marry for money and a title and he wants to marry for love. Delilah loves horses and he loves his new motorwagon.

Ms. Alexander writes great arguments between this two characters. I felt like I was watching a tennis match (there is one in the story), with all the bards going back and forth between them. She writes all this hilariousness at the Millworth Manor with a great cast of crazy characters. I really loved Lady Teddy and I hope she has her own story too. Ms. Alexander made me laugh, snort (SNAUGH) and even cry out in frustration and that what makes an absolutely fantastic book for me. I give this MISADVENTURE 4 fingers up and 8 toes!!
