There is a fine line when writing a review on a book you love, story that has touched you. You find yourself writing about everything, and then realize that you have now officially ruined the outcome for whom ever is reading the review. So I have censored myself a little bit.
There are books that you read once and put on a shelf, and there are book you read over and over. Stories that touch something in you, something special, and that special something makes you return over, and over.
Each time I pick up “Once and a Lifetime”, and begin to read I can’t put it down. There is a zing and fire that grows between Aubrey and Ben, and this zing fuels a friendship. There are times when you just want to put the book in the freezer, until Ben learns his lesson, or when you find you self trying to flip ahead to get to the end of Aubrey’s to do list.
Aubrey realizes that in order to achieve her goals, she must come to terms with her past. She faces her past with courage and humor. As she steps up and tries to right the wrongs she done and completes here to do list. She finds the courage to right the one wrong she fears the most. Ben.
Ben is back, after losing his wife in a car accident, traveling the world, and facing danger he didn’t sign up for, he returns home. Family and friends worry that he will never open up his life to another and find love that they are sure he needs.
Ben is attracted to Aubrey, yet his friends caution him away, while Aubrey agonizes over secretes that threaten to tear apart their friendship and rip apart her heart.
I could not put this book down, I had to finish it. I needed to find out what happened, and how it ended. I cheered, got angry, felt sad, smiled, laughed, and finally I got a little emotional. I am not ashamed to say that I am invested in the story, the outcome, and the characters, that when the end came I was truly happy for them.
This is one book that will never make it to the shelf!

Aubrey Wellington is the completely hot women with an attitude and wall around her like no other. Renovating and opening her aunt's beloved book store back up to help fulfill an emptiness. She ends up in an AA meeting unknowingly she starts her own process of righting her wrongs from the past. 
Ben McDaniel is a tough as nails military man that had escaped to working in the war-torn dangerous places in other countries to escape the death of his wife. Now back in Lucky Harbor he does odd jobs to keep himself busy. 
After Aubrey's uncle hires Ben to do work at the book store and the various other encounters they have in the town; these two know they are definitely so wrong for each other even though they are both so attracted to the other, and decide it is only physical.
Will this journey for making amends for Aubrey and the start of a new chapter in Ben's life be one that will bring them together or push them apart.
A very enjoyable read that will have you smiling, laughing and rooting for the not so nice heroine.  Thank you again Jill Shalvis for the most wonderful read.

a woman determined to right the wrongs of her youth, and a man that lost a wife he loved very much make for a very heartwarming story. jill shalvis has the right stuff for writing such a story. ben 's wife dies 5 years ago and he has decided he can't do love again. aubrey was a 'mean' girl growing up. they meet and sparks fly, but each is determined not to fall. an interesting story watching these two dance around each other, until the dance ends. this is a soul-searching story that will leave going....awwwww!

What can I say about this book?  Aubrey and Ben are both haunted by their pasts, and looking to make a future for themselves in Lucky Harbor.  Ms. Shalvis does an excellent job of intertwining their lives, and bringing them out on the other side.  This is a must read book, and a must read series.  Though this story can be read as a stand-alone, I recommend reading the series in order.  It just makes for a better overall experience.

This book was HOT! I could practically feel the heat coming off

This book was HOT! I could practically feel the heat coming off my Nook. It was great to see how Aubrey starting taking the blame and asking for forgiveness for past sins.
It shows that even if you make mistakes in the past, they don't have to define you or your future.
Was very glad to see Ben taking a chance on forgiving her and leaving the past whete it belongs. So great to see these characters grow and get caught up with characters from past books.
Love Jill Shalvis and the Lucky Harbor series. August can't come soon enough!

Ok I just read this whole series well up till the last one out and can't wait till the next one comes out! This Town sounds like a great place to be! I want to go visit lol Started with this one Loved it went back and made sure I had them all . Waiting for the next . I would recommend this series ! Love Laughs and yes some heat :D Thank you for this fun series !

Why?

Jill Shalvis is a creative writer BUT the language of the characters so disappointing. It takes from my enjoyment. I may be naive but I hope most people don't use profanity as a first language. It belittles the characters.

In the 9th installment of the Lucky Harbor series we meet Ben Mc

In the 9th installment of the Lucky Harbor series we meet Ben McDaniel a widow who for the past couple of years has been in war torn countries helping improve local communities. In addition, you also meet Aubrey Wellington, the local girl who everyone calls trouble who is trying to revitalize her Aunts old bookstore.  These two unlikely people are brought together when Aubrey’s aunt hires Ben to help finish renovating the store.  Having talked very little to each other in high school will they be able to tolerate each other enough to finish this store?




All Aubrey wants to do is make her aunts bookstore successful while adding in a little of herself to it. However, things don’t go as planned when she stumbles into an AA meeting where she realizes that she may be able to right the wrongs of her past. Put first she will need to make the people of Lucky Harbor realize that she isn’t the trouble teen she used to be.  Unfortunately she soon figures out it might not be so easy as she thought when the top person on her list to apologize to is Ben who has no idea what she did to him.




Will Aubrey be able to right her wrongs and keep herself from falling for Ben McDaniel’s? Will Ben be able to get through this carpentry job without falling for Aubrey and will he be able to forgive her when she tells him the truth?




My Review:




This is the 9th book in the Lucky Harbor series that I have read of Jill’s. Once again Jill does not disappoint. She is able to write a great story that incorporates love, friendship and laughter.  Because Jill does a great job of describing the characters I was once again able to really feel like I knew them and the emotions that they were going through.




In addition, Jill does a great job of incorporating previous characters from other books into this book. I think this is great because as a reader you like to read about previous characters to see how their love story has evolved.




Lastly, I really loved the humor in this book. From Lucille the well-known gossip of Lucky Harbor to Aubrey’s cat who she inherited when she took over the bookstore.  Jill does a great job of combining fiction and real life things that happen in her life into a great story.








Jill once again created a spectacular book and I can’t wait to read more books from her. I think that even though this book is a part of a series it can be read individually. There are only a couple spots in the book that they refer to things that happened in previous books.

I won this book for free on Goodreads First Reads for a honest review. Another enjoyable Lucky Harbor book.  Jill Shalvis knows how to write a yummy total alpha hero. Aubrey Wellington was known as the ‘hot but mean girl’ in high school.  And now is trying to make amends to all the people she hurt. Ben McDaniel  is on her list. Ben does not want any commitment to any one after losing his wife but he was drawn to Aubrey.  The sex was smoking hot but more the great story Jill wrote. The Lucky Harbor series is great.

Very good book, I love this series. Aubrey is firey and strong.

Very good book, I love this series. Aubrey is firey and strong. It seems most people do not like her in Lucky Harbor and that made me love her all the more. I couldn't put this book down, read it in 24 hours. This series is wonderful, each book is different from the others, so thats good. I can't wait to read the rest in this series. Jill Shalvis is wonderful!

 I just discovered Jill Shalvis over the last few months and have quickly become a huge fan of her books.  Once in a Lifetime is her latest installment in the Lucky Harbor Series, and actually the first book I have read in this particular series, and I loved it.  The book reads like a companion novel, and while several of the characters in the book were also in previous novels, it isn't necessary to read them in order.  That said, I fully intend to read them all.  




Ben McDaniel has returned to Lucy Harbor 5 years after losing his wife, having spent that time working in some very dangerous places while trying to deal with his grief.  Aubrey Wellington has a reputation for having been the town's wild child, and has experienced her share of trouble, not all of which was her fault.  After getting out of a bad relationship that turns into somewhat of a scandalous story in the small town of Lucky Harbor, she finds herself in the strangest of places with a new-found desire to right the wrongs of her past, part of which involves Ben McDaniel, her high-school crush.  Ben McDaniel has been warned that Aubrey is trouble, yet he is unable to stay away from her.  As fate would have it, these two find themselves kind of thrown together by circumstances and situations, and they can't deny the intense chemistry that is between them.  Neither is looking for a relationship, yet with the thick sexual tension that seems to draw them to each other, they give into their desires, with many humorous and entertaining situations occurring during the process.  They both make it clear that what they have is strictly physical, but when the lines between love and "just sex" begin to blur, things begin to get complicated.  After a decade long secret is revealed, everything that has developed between them begins to fall apart.  Will the engineer and the book store beauty queen overcome the drama that threatens to destroy them?




 I loved both Ben and Aubrey's characters.  He is the broody, silent, alpha male type that exudes sexiness to the point it feels almost sinful just to look at him.  Aubrey's character is fun-loving, snarky, and outspoken, completely opposite of Ben, yet the two compliment each other beautifully.  I loved the banter that occurs between them and the romance is sizzling hot.  The story is fast paced, entertaining, and kept my attention the entire time.  I enjoyed the secondary characters also, and I look forward to going back and reading their stories also.  Overall, I found Once in a Lifetime to be a very enjoyable contemporary romance that will make you smile, laugh, root for the characters to find their happily ever after, and is something contemporary romance fans are sure to enjoy.

Every time I read one of Jill Shalvis' Lucky Harbor books I fall a little more in love with the town and its citizens. Cant wait for the next one.

Jill Shalvis continues to hit it out of the park with her Lucky Harbor series.  I loved that Aubrey wasn't always the good girl and was trying to make up for past mistakes.  And Ben...well Jill knows how to write about the hero.  He was fantastic.  One of my favorites of the series.
