I'll admit that I was at first very hesitant to take the time to read this book. Though I am a big fan of both Glee and Lea Michele--and celebrity memoirs are definitely my guilty reading pleasure-the majority of celebrities tend to be preachy, self-absorbed, and often impart very little in three way of practical wisdom / advice to us real world folk. Fortunately, Brunette Ambition was quite the opposite. In this memoir/how-to/style guide, Lea Michele made everything extremely relateable to her fan base. She discussed her upbringing as a child stage actress and the lessons on professionalism, patience, rejection, and self-care that she learned very on, and these pearls of wisdom are applicable to pretty much every career (from cashier to retail manager to CEO of a Fortune 500 company) under the sun. I also appreciated that, when discussing her style, she kept it simple. Many celebs rattle off a litany of expensive brands that make you feel downright destitute in comparison, while also making you wonder if they're bring sponsored to "recommend" such brands. But Lea's advice basically stressed quality over quantity. She's a self-proclaimed "anti-hoarder" who hates an overwhelming amount of clothing options, so she recommends shopping only twice per year-- for the essentials like underwear and socks, A sensible handbag, and traditional pieces that will be of use for awhile--while cleaning out your closet and giving away the items you will no longer use. She also stressed the importance of taking care of yourself physically and mentally and included several recipes for healthy meals, bath soaks, hair masks, etc., that she uses regularly. Once again, no name dropping of expensive brands. And of course, she discussed the importance of family and friendship and how her loved ones have kept her grounded as an actress. Overall, I do highly recommend giving this a read. I didn't feel like I was reading the musings of a spoiled diva actress, but rather gaining honest, practical advice from someone who is successful in her field and knows her limits.

This book is such a lifestyle read. It contains life lessons, her history, how she views her milestones, and health tricks and tips. It is very ambitious and relevant to how woman are today. Perfect summer reading, that's what this is.

I LOVE Lea Michele she is amazing I do hold some pity for Lea because her fiance Cory Monteith died ( RIP Cory) she got the news and was obviously sad and mourned for a little but she powerd through it and has written a book about her life she is just SO powerful strong and brave and on top of all of that she was still filming on the set of GLEE and she had to be in the saddest episode in all of GLEE The Quaterback and she was NOT acting when she was filming the episode that sadness was real not taught that shows that they both really LOVED eachother. She is just so powerful and if you need a good eexample of strengh Lea Michele is a perfect example an she is also an amazing idol to have she is so responsible and calm when it comes to the papparai.

The world knows Lea Michele from Broadway, Glee and from the magazines, but Lea Michele took a moment and wrote a book that tells her story and includes some great life and beauty tips to make it a well rounded book.
I am a Glee fan. I am a fan because I love music and I love the mix of broadway and pop - have never aimed to be a singer, but have always loved music, so I have been a Glee fan since the pilot. I am also a Lea Michele fan. I didn't know about her until Glee, but since being introduced I have loved finding out about her Broadway past. With her recent ups and downs, I loved reading a book that she wrote about her family and friends who have been there before Glee and Corey and will be there long after. She did a great job of balancing putting her story in the book as well as health, beauty and life tips.
