Overview

New York Times bestselling author Wahida Clark is all too familiar with the truths of ghetto life. The first novel in her gritty series takes readers into the streets, where a wrong choice could be the last choice a person ever makes. . .

In a 'hood loaded with sex, brutality, and crime, three friends are at a turning point. They can surrender to the streets—and the murderous men who rule there—or walk a totally different path. But nothing is simple for women addicted to life on the edge. And everything has consequences. . .

Angel, Jaz, and Kyra are all leading double lives, torn between working hard to leave the ghetto behind—and being dragged back in by the lying, pimping, drug-dealing men they can't seem to let go. From jealous rampages to bloody turf wars to rage-fueled vendettas, a tangled web of violence binds these women to the very place that could destroy them. . .

Meet the Author

Wahida Clark
Wahida Clark

Wahida Clark was born and raised in Trenton, New Jersey. She decided to write fiction while incarcerated at a women's federal prison camp in Lexington, Kentucky. Crowned the "Queen of Thug Love Fiction" by Nikki Turner, the "Queen of Hip Hop Fiction" herself, Wahida's style of writing is the template for urban literature. When you read her novels, they are so real you are convinced of one of three things: you know the characters, you want to know the characters, or you are one of the characters.

Whats up with all the reverse racism?

First off, i loved the book and instantly bought all in the series. Secondly.... Im not a black woman. Im a Chicana (Mexican born and raised in America) who grew up in the hood dating black boys and dealing with a lot of the issues written about in the book. I think what bothers me is that instead of writing about uniting WOMEN and strengthening WOMEN and all the obstacles that WOMEN overcome, its just about Black Women. Anyone from the hood knows, being poor and struggling dont have no color, and growing up in the projects has always had its black kids and brown kids and lighter shade of brown kids. It would be nice to read a real book like this that actually includes all of us. I had alot of black gfs in school, but after a certain age, black women only want to be around other black women. Of course its ur choice to do so, but it seems like its a learned habit and not a natural one. I think its natural to be friends with ppl who are like minded, but to judge simply on race, it seems really ass backwards, and there should be more literature about equality and acceptance. But instead of preaching it to the white man, i think its time to practice what u preach. Just my opinion. But, i loved the book, and im gonna keep reading the series.

    WOW

I could not put the book down. I thought that I was watching a movie. It showed the other side of guys in the streets....not just the ruff side but the loving and caring side. I anticipate reading her other books.

    Good Read

I think the book was good! Parts of the book was dedicated to different characters. It kept me interested enough to want to read the next installment in the series. Especially after reading that the second book happens to be better than the first!
