To say I was excited to read Rome, Book #3 in the Marked Men series by Jay Crownover, is a vast understatement. I was ECSTATIC to get my hands on this book! My love for this series started when Rule (Book #1) was recommended to me by a fellow book lover who told me I had to “READ THIS BOOK NOW!” Taking my friend’s advice I picked up the book and quickly found I could not put it down. I wouldn’t say I savored the book, I devoured it.
Rome, Rule’s older brother, was badly injured while fighting overseas. In the military, he was a respected leader and a natural born protector. He returns home from fighting a real war, only to begin fighting a war that is raging inside him. During a war, knowing who the enemy is can be defined in black and white, but when you are your own worst enemy, there is a whole lot of gray. Rome struggles in accepting his new mission of figuring out his new purpose in life.
The basis of this story is still about finding that one “perfect” love. Rome and Cora both have emotional baggage that they bring with them to the relationship. Both wanting the same thing, they both have to let go of their pasts and be brave enough to move forward to something better, something… perfect.
The feelings I had when I read the first two books grew stronger after reading Rome. The characters’ storylines continue throughout all three books. They enhance but do not overshadow the main character’s storyline. Rule and Jett were tattooed with certain body modifications. I will admit I had to use Wikipedia to understand what made them “special”. Boy, did I get an education (Wink, wink). So when I was reading Rome, I was expecting to find out what made him “special”. I determined that his “specialty” was nothing like the other two. He wasn’t a cliché character. He was uniquely Rome.
The intimacy was so intense that at times I could feel my pulse racing. The love scenes were so descriptive I could almost see the vibrancy of the colors in Cora’s tattoos under his touch. The storyline is unpredictable which kept me engaged until the last page. I was shown a glimpse of what it must be like to live with PTSD. The internal struggle of being brave enough to show your vulnerability after being defined by your strength is truly inspirational. I highly recommend this book as one of my favorites not only for the main characters but for the life lessons it teaches the reader. The Marked Man series has not only left its mark but has tattooed itself on my heart. The only word I have to describe this book is, perfect.

I couldnt wait to read this book. Loved the first two in the series. That being said, this book didnt do it for me. The story didnt really start to get good until at least half way through. And even then it wasnt all that great. Couldnt stand Cora calling Rome big guy ALL the time. Just got on my nerves. I sure hope the next book in this series is like the first two and not this one. Sorry:(

While I thought Rule & Jet were both 5 star material and was anxiously awaiting the release of Rome, after reading it I was disappointed. Call me crazy, but part of what sucks me into a book in the angst between the H/h. The more angst, the better. Rule & Jet both delivered in spades, but Rome fell a little flat. In my estimation, a great book needs high high and low lows. Rome carried on at a pretty steady pace and there weren't many peaks & valleys in this story. I want to ride a roller coaster with the characters in the book and this was a kiddie ride. The conflict that both Rome & Cora had to overcome was easily done, too easily done. Now, all that being said...this is a matter of personal preference, so others may not find that the issues I had with the book are an issue to them. I still think Jay Crownover is a great author, but this book just didn't do it for me. I am eager to pick up Nash's book when its released and am hoping that it will contain the magic I found in Rule & Jet.

Cora was a heroine who guarded her heart very carefully. She had it stomped on in the past, so she wasn't about to hand it over to just any guy. She wanted the perfect guy, even though such a thing doesn't exist. I liked her, for the most part. She was a tough girl-she had to be to keep all the guys in line. I had only a couple of complaints about her. 1) She was feisty, and I liked that about her, but sometimes she came off as just mean. It was only a couple of occasion where that happened, but they did annoy me. 2) Cora's inability to say "I love you" to Rome was frustrating. I understood why she was reluctant: she was worried that he would turn out to be like her ex. But, after he had proven himself many times over, she still held on to that fear and that just caused a lot of heartache. Both of these issues were very minor and they didn't affect my enjoyment of the book, but they did irritate me. Other than that, I really liked Cora.
Rome was wonderful. He was dealing with a lot at the beginning of the book, which made him rather snappish. He was still bothered by the fact that Remy had't told him his secret and that Shaw had kept it from him. Add to that the sights he saw in the war, and he had a lot of issues. But, if you've read the previous books in the series, you know that Rome is really a very nice guy, an absolutely sweetheart, and that guy slowly came back as Rome dealt with his issues. He was so sweet and strong and devoted to his loved ones. I thought he was perfect.
The romance was great. It was definitely VERY hot. It was so hot, I'm surprised my Kindle didn't burst into flames. This author is brilliant at creating some super steamy, very hot chemistry. But, Cora and Rome were also sweet together. They were the type of couple that made each other stronger as they both dealt with their demons. I thought they were lovely together.
The plot was fast paced. I was hooked the entire way through. There were some surprises along the way. Cora and Rome had to deal with something unexpected and Rule decided to take the next step in his relationship with Shaw. I'll let you puzzle over what I mean :) There were a few thrills along the way and one absolutely heart-pounding scene. I really enjoyed the story and the ending was lovely. I can't wait for the next book. We'll be getting Nash and Saint's story next. Definitely excited for that one!
Rome was an absolutely fantastic New Adult romance. For fans of the Marked Men series, this next book definitely doesn't disappoint. It was hot, sweet, romantic, emotional, and full of surprises and thrills. Lovers of New Adult romance, this is a book you have to read.

I have to say, Jay Crownover, you made me cry again. I think Jay has outdone herself with the latest book, Rome. When I think I love Jet the most, I started to love Rule more. Then Rome came along and has taken the #1 spot of hot book boyfriends of Jay's.
Besides the crying(sad to type this out, but it was a rolling down the cheek crying. What a mess!) the book was great. Rome comes home from the being in the army for 10 years. As you can imagine, Rome is left with major baggage. He has his moments of breakdowns with all the memories. He needed to change his new life back to where he was at before he left.
Cora was introduced in the past books. She is a badass tinkerbell. Full of life and everyone loves her and wants to protect her. But she can't get over her broken heart. All she is looking for is the perfect man to replace what she was left with. She meets Rome, hates him and somehow wants to help him. Also the fact he is part of the Archer family leaves a small place in her heart. She always wants to take care of everyone.
As you can imagine, their relationship changes into a real romance. They can be a mess at times but great at others. I am not going to say much. BUT the part at the bar and Rome protecting her along with seeing his brother, that was when I had the cryfest. Read, you will understand.
I love Jay's books and how they seem to intertwine with each characters is seamlessly. They start back up to the happily ever afters we had with the other books. Love each one!
I would rate this book a 4.5.

98% of the so called reviews here are blatent plot spoilers, some even including quotes from the book. That is simply going too far. Then they brag how they got their for free for their so called honest review. Come on bn. Are you ever going to do something to these rude plot spoilers who think they just have to tell the entire story to us like we are too stupid to read it ourselves? Cora is fun loving pint sized receptionist and piercer, she meddles in everyone else's lives after having her heart broken she only wants the perfect guy. Rome is far from perfect, he is finally home trying to figure out how to fit into civilian life. The two of them aren't what each other were looking, but they are exactly what each of them needs and they are about to find out that perfect is overrated. Rome is the third book in the Marked Men series while it can be read as a stand alone I would suggest reading the first two books to get the background on the other characters, and they are really good. Cora loves her boys, she loves her job, she loves to meddle and when she finds a perfect man she is going to settle down and have the perfect little life. Other than Cora being completely delusional because really nobodies perfect, I liked her she was a sarcastic take charge woman who had her heart broken. She acted like a complete idiot sometimes, but she had a good heart and once she loved someone she was ready and willing to do everything possible to help them. Rome poor Rome he was battling his own demons, at times he may have acted like a jerk but with what was going on in his head I don't blame him. There was one thing in this book that was a huge problem for me, but that was only because it has become a big pet peeve of mine that seems to be happening in a lot of books lately, I know that was vague but to avoid spoilers I'm just going to leave it at that, except to say yes it does have to do with sex in the book. Cora and Rome don't seem like they fit together, at times certain times it felt it a little bit the relationship was forced, and I didn't really understand what it was beyond circumstances that held these two together. I wasn't wowed and didn't get that whole these two people belong together feeling while reading their story. The writing itself is good, the story does pull you and keep you interested, and the sex is hot, it's just not my favorite one in the series.

I read rule last year and enjoyed it so had to read the rest of the series, Rome is the third book but I loved them all. Can't wait for rowdy to be released in October. These books are hot and full of sex and tattoos and piercings not for the week hearted white bread milquetoast kind of people. Full of romance and have a strong message at the end. Hot.

I am jumping up and down you must read this book i love the whole series i can not get enough of these books i have been reading from rule and waited for jet and then rome the set is some of the best writing i have read hot guys beautiful chicks and all kinds of love and a good bit of drama awesome book awesome writer

Every book i read is either someone that works at a tattoo parlor which i love its just i find it weird or they are a sex goddes which is also fine with me. Btw why are people that are on here are arguing about boyfriends and girlfriends this is not email or a chatting site its a reveiw thing, so if u guys want to argue then email eachother or chat somewhere else. Other people dont want to see it. I like seeing it because it cracks me up when people like u guys who argue over boyfriend and
girlfriend stuff but other people dont they want to hear good reviews about these kinds of books so ya please stop arguing on here about ur guys boyfriends and girlfreinds its really inapporpriate .

I loved Rule, totally and completely. Rule and Shaw together were perfect and I was so happy with their story. I enjoyed Jet even if I wanted to smack Ayden a few times. But Rome and Cora? They captured my heart. This is my FAVORITE of the series, by far! This is high praise considering how much I loved the first book.
Rarely do I fall for both the main characters of a book. I usually always like one more than the other - admittedly it's usually the guy I like best. But this book was different. I adored Cora. She's bada$$ and mouthy. She tells it like it is and makes no excuses for it. She's protective of her friends and fiercely local. Feisty and fun, I love how she can push captain no-fun's buttons like no other and I truly love her. She is the perfect match for Rome.
Rome. My poor Rome. So in need of cuddling, I totally volunteer for service. This soldier comes back with more than a few ghosts. Dealing with the horrors he saw and experienced at war is bad enough but Rome is still struggling with the secrets that were kept from him by his family. Nightmares and attitude are driving him to hide in a vodka haze. Enter the beer dumping, not putting up with you ruining my BBQ girl Cora - so ready to battle this soldier. Sparks fly in more ways than one and these two are not going to make things easy. There are way too many battles to fight for both of them before the smoke clears and the victor is declared. And it was a fun war to watch.
I can always tell a five star book by the speed with which I read. When the pages and time are flying by, when the emotions are riding up and down, and when I don't want to put the book down, then it has to be true. That was the case with this one. I read it in a day - yes all 400 pages of it.
What I so love about this series are the way the books fit together like puzzle pieces. The characters I loved from previous books are still there and more things are happening to them. I'm meeting new characters that I'm hoping will get their own book. And secondary characters are breaking my heart too. It feels like a episode of the very best. I very much want the next book and I hope they keep coming because I need my fix of marked men.
If you have read Rule and/or Jet, you need this book as soon as possible. If you haven't started this series but love the New Adult genre then what are you waiting for? I love the imperfect but real characters and how the story involves my heart. I love these friends and family that take care of each other and each others back. Don't miss out on being part of their circle!

I was not the original person set to review this book but I am so glad I was able to. I had read Rule when Ms. Crownover was just a new indie writer. I knew after finishing she was going to be a hit. I truly enjoyed Rule and Shaw's story and all the characters she created. I did not get to read Jet but when I saw that Rome's book was coming out I knew I had to sign up. He stayed with me from Rule's book and I was excited to see where his story was set to go. Ms. Crownover did not disappoint :)
Rome was sexy, sweet and going through a lot after returning home from war. I knew he was injured from Rule but his injuries have forced him to come home indefinitely. This is not easy from him at all. Not only did he bring home demons from the sandbox but he has bunch of crap he still dealing with since his brother, Remy, died. Relationships are strained with everyone in Rome's world including his relationship with himself. Struggling to find his new place in the world and his family, Rome is not always the greatest person to be around or the most sober.
Cora was the fiery, no holds bare pixie from the Marked tattoo parlor. She loyal to a umpteenth degree and loves all her inner circle of friends fiercely. She is the glue that holds them together plus the conscience the crew needs but she is battling her own set of baggage after being cheated on by her ex-fiance and having a less than stellar relationship with her dad. She is looking for the "perfect" man and family because she refuses to allow herself to be hurt again in any way.
Rome and Cora are the most unlikely pair ever. Not only in size and look but in attitude. They are the last two anyone ever expected to get together especially since all their first meetings ending up in some type of fight but when Rome needs someone to save him from himself, good things sometimes do come in small tattooed packages...haha.
I absolutely loved Rome and Cora's story. I loved the honesty and realness of their relationship. Cora and Rome's relationship is far from easy and they are thrown a lot crap, some good and some bad but they make it through and somehow manage the find the light at the other side. They are the perfect imperfect couple.

I loved that Cora held him accountable for his actions and made him not only see himself but the world for what it really was. I loved that Rome broke her twisted version of "perfect" and put her sideways in the best way possible. She needed it. Best part for me...was the twist in the middle because to me it is the BEST. TWIST. EVER...lol. I am a sucker for them and they always make every book great to me.
Ms. Crownover....you made laugh, cry, swoon and definitely steamed up my Kindle a few times. Thank you...it was joy to read. The Epilogue will blow your mind and sets up Nash's book for you. So effin' excited for that I cannot express in words. A must read when it comes out on 1.7...you will not be disappointed.

I was incredibly lucky to stumble upon books one and two on Edelweiss, and then ecstatic that I was lucky enough to get on this blog tour and read Rome. I have devoured and enjoyed all three of the books in this series so far, but something about Rome just took it a step farther.
Rule and Jet each had the bad boy appeal going on. Rule is a tattoo artist with a bad boy streak a mile wide, and Jet is a womanizing rock star. They are both out of control until the right woman comes along and settles them down. And it was heartbreaking and a little awe inspiring to watch it happen. Rome is a different story completely. He never was the bad boy. In fact, he's pretty much always been the epitome of Captain Freakin' America. Ever since he was a kid he has been someone's hero, been taking care of his younger brothers Remy and Rule, and been the loyal, steadfast guy you looked up to that always had your back. When he was old enough, he joined the Army, and then he was saving the world for real. Along the way, he lost his younger brother Remy, and had to deal with some messed up secrets and complications with his family. Now that he is out of the Army, he is also having to deal with pretty traumatic PTSD, survivor's guilt, and a good healthy dose of "not belonging." It tore me up how much I empathized with what Rome was going through. He's one of the good guys, one of the men who would die for the people he loves, and he is having such a hard time fitting back into his life now that he's no longer in the army. He's mad and scared, and feels guilty about stuff that he can't control, and he's just a big mess. Then, along comes Cora, the firecracker pixie girl that I loved from books one and two. She don't take crap from nobody, and she's not just going to stand by and let Rome and his toxic attitude affect the group of friends that she loves. So, she dumps a beer over his head and tells him to quit being such a jerk. All of sudden the world that Rome has been trying to find his place in is turned upside down all over again.
"Being with you is the one thing that feels solid and real...You're so full of color, so vibrant you never get lost in all the gray in my head. I don't want to lose that."
Rome and Cora's relationship progresses the only way that it possibly can - at breakneck speed, roaring around the corners on two wheels. They are two people who are brutally honest and loyal to a fault, and they both live life to the fullest. Each one of them has their own serious baggage to deal with, but those are usually the people who are the ones worth fighting for. And I can honestly say that Rome and Cora are perfect for each other in every way. I LOVED them together.
"I can't be perfect for you, but I can be someone you rely on, someone you want to keep around even though it isn't always going to be easy."
And I tell you what, Rome is just about as perfect as a book boyfriend, alpha male, whatever you want to call it, as there is. When faced with the possibility of the one situation that sends most guys running for the hills, he handled it perfectly. In fact, he handled everything perfectly. Even when he was screwing up, he owned up to it and apologized and did whatever he could to make things right. I might have thought I loved Rule and Jet, but Rome put them both to shame in my eyes. And I couldn't have been happier when Cora finally stopped looking for Mr. Perfect and realized that sometimes the most imperfect person that is standing right in front of you is the one that will make you whole.
"I see all of it, Rome, and whatever it ends up looking like is already perfect. This...is as perfect as it gets. You're my guy, no one else does to me or for me what you do, and that's all there is to it. I didn't know what perfect meant until you."
Seriously, I love this series, and this book in particular. If you haven't read Rule, Jet, or Rome, I can tell you that you are definitely missing out. These books have killer lead male and female characters, story lines that are amazing, and a secondary cast of people that are just as interesting and complex as the leads. Speaking of which, I can't wait for the next book in this series. I am counting the days until I get to find out what is going on with Nash and Saint.

Upon finishing Rule I was certain of two things. First, Jay Crownover is freaking brilliant and there was no doubt that I was falling in love with this series already. And second, I couldn't wait to get to Rome's book because I was definitely crushing on this guy. I was also freaking out quite a bit. Rome is special and he couldn't be paired up with just anybody. I won't read the blurbs in series like these before I open the books because I want to be 100% surprised. So I didn't even have a guess as to who it would be. I had my hopes though. There was only 1 single girl left in the group at this point and Cora was just all kinds of awesome. I mean we're talking serious girl crush here. So I crossed my fingers and opened up the book and the first thing I saw underneath the words chapter one was...Cora. I squealed and did a little chair dance then immediately tweeted Jay Crownover to tell her how freaking amazing she is to have put these two together. Yeah, you could say I was just a wee bit happy.
--"Tinker Bell. She looks like a punk-rock version of Tinker Bell."
From the first moment Cora Lewis makes her appearance in Rule I have loved this girl. She is so freaking funny and feisty as all hell. She not only runs the tattoo shop, Marked, that Rule, Nash and Rowdy work in but she also does all the body piercings. She's also taken on the role as the big sister of all the guys with the exception of Rome whom she's only met once to this point. She may be a tiny little thing but you do not mess with someone she cares about. It doesn't matter if you're a foot taller and have 100 pounds on her she will get right up in your face and let you know exactly what she thinks about you with no fear. She is just awesome all around and I knew before I started she would be perfect for Rome.
--I bet if he ever bothered to smile, panties across the nation would melt.
To all the book boyfriends I've ever loved before... Sorry but you've been replaced. Sigh. Rome Archer... first of all how sexy is that name? Anyway, Rome is Rule's older brother. He's an ex-sergeant in the army having served 10 years. He's always been everyone's rock. He takes care of everyone, makes sure Rule stays out of trouble, always trying to save everyone. For all of Jet's book he's overseas finishing out his deployment and more often than not soldiers who come back from war don't always come back the same person they left as. I don't just mean physically, mentally too. Watching Rome come back and not only have to fight his demons both from the desert and family stuff, but to have to try to redefine who he is and what his new role is in everyone's lives now that he's not needed as the protector, it was painful and at the same time beautiful. I couldn't have been more happy with his character.
--In all my visions of what I was doing, of who I was waiting for, there had never once been a glimpse of anyone like Rome Archer.
When you look at the fact that you have 2 very strong personalities and very stubborn people you almost have to wonder how on earth it could work. They both like to maintain control so you would assume that it would be a constant clash. But somehow, thankfully, it just works. I was very surprised with the way the storyline went knowing that fact. This book was not at all what I was expecting and I think I loved it even more so because of that. This book was so full of passion and raw, powerful emotions there were times I was all tied up in knots. It gives us a perfect build up into Nash's story and I can't wait! Though I think I need to sit and stew in the wonderful world of Rome and Cora for a while before I move on. I seriously think Jay Crownover's imagination is my new happy place.

Cora is the smart mouthed, loud, sassy manager of the Marked Men tattoo shop in Denver. Keeping the tattoo artists in line is her job and she doesn’t have time for much else. Perhaps my favorite to date, I knew from the very beginning that I was going to love Rome. Always so protective and by instinct the most loyal, Rome is heartbroken when he returns. He doesn't feel like he knows his family anymore and his whole world is upside down when he returns. Cora is so different from him and takes no prisoners. Strong and independent, Cora is wary of falling for Rome. She knows he needs help, but can she truly be the help he needs?
Adorable and fun, I absolutely fell in love with Rome. Crownover does a great job of writing Cora and her interactions with the boys of the shop had me laughing out loud. Her no holds barred treatment of Rome and her sensitivity when dealing with his PTSD is handled with care and realistically related. Maybe my favorite part? Rome is dirrrrty when the times call for it and we all know Crownover rocks the dirrrty! Next up is Nash!

I have to admit that I wasn't that excited to read this book. Cora wasn't my favorite character and I thought the pairing of her and Rome didn't fit. Boy, was I wrong! Them being such an unlikely couple was what made this book so great. And I grew to love Cora and Rome together. Their story had so much emotion, surprises, drama, depth and humor and I was rooting for them all the way. Their love story was completely unpredictable and I loved it!

If you have enjoyed the others so far this is my favorite. Strong, loyal, sensitive. What else could you ask for along with a group of friends that mean and care so much for you and about you.
