was sent an Arc of this book for an honest review and here it is = This is the kind of book that you want to read while sitting in front of the fire with a cup of hot apple cider and a blanket over your legs.
I have read many of Jaci Burton's books and have never been disappointed. This first book in her new Hope series does not disappoint either.
This is the story of Emma, a new vet who has come back home to open her own practice and Luke McCormack, a police officer in the same town.
Both have been previously burned by love so both have issues but, that doesn't stop them from acting on that attraction.
This book pulls you in from the first page, wraps you up and doesn't let you go until the end.

OMG!!!!!! This has got to be the most BORING book Jaci Burton has ever written! I swear the only reason she received 4 & 5 star reviews is because she has loyal fans that don't want to be honest. Well I've been reading JBs books for well over ten years now, I love her books and I admire her creative writing style, but I have to be honest, this book sucks! Its just so boring....the only reason I pushed myself to finish reading it is because I paid for it!
Emma and Luke have absolutely no chemistry! Not even the sex between them is hot, its like they were just going through the motions. I don't feel like they clicked. Their thoughts are very repetitive, they don't want a relationship, but they still date each other exclusively, I mean is she traumatized or what? Make up your mind woman!
Their relationship and the entire book was missing that WOW factor that makes a reader hope and pray book number two comes out extremely quickly. I just hope book two has more action, mystery, and chemistry between the characters than this one because it wasn't until almost the end of the book that it got even remotely interesting, once Emma's past came back to taunt her. You have to read like 25 something chapters before getting to that small tidbit...sighs.
Very disappointing....

Hope Flames by Jaci Burton is the first book in her Hope series. This is my first book by Burton, and after reading Hope Flames it will not be my last. I loved this book. It was such a fun, relaxing, enjoyable and sexy read.
The story takes place in a town called Hope, and we meet our heroine, Emma at the start. Emma, after being away for years, has returned home to Hope to start her own Animal Clinic. After a successful first day, Emma is about to close when she meets Luke, who is a cop in town. Luke brings his injured dog, Boomer, who also acts like a police dog, helping apprehend criminals. There was an immediate attraction between them, but because both have had bad experiences with romance, each hesitated to act on it.
This was such a wonderful romance, as Burton took the time to slowly build up this romance, with them first becoming friends. Luke wasn’t interested in any romance, just one night stands, but he knew there was something different about Emma, Emma herself was determined to build up her practice, and not let herself become emotionally involved with any man, especially after her last relationship was a disaster. But then the friendship only didn’t last too long, as their sexual chemistry was off the chart. When they acted on their desires (very hot), they both convinced themselves to enjoy what they had, without any committments.
What I loved about this book was the small town atmosphere, with their friends, and family that made this even better. I absolutely loved their dogs; Luke’s Boomer, and Emma’s Daisy and Annie. It was so much fun to watch them all together. Their romance was so heart warming, as they had to get past their bad experiences, allowing themselves to open their hearts. They both started to fall hard for each other, and the sexual chemistry between them was off the wall, and so well done by Burton.
The last quarter of the book was very exciting, with a side story of a burglar stealing drugs from various places, including Emma’s clinic. But the most suspense comes from the past rising up to put one of them in danger.
This series has so such potential for many of the characters whom we got to meet in Hope to have their own book. Hope Flames was such an enjoyable read, with a great couple; wonderful romance with some hot sex scenes; and cute lovable animals.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book that I read this in one day, since I did not want to let this go. Jaci Burton has impressed me as writer, allowing me to get to know and love her characters. This was such a warm, and fun story. I am now vested into reading this series to see everyone in Hope again.

## First and foremost I need to say that I think Jaci Burton is a brilliant author. One of my favorite books of all time is "Riding on Instinct". That being said, I have to admit that I was disappointed in this book. It felt slow and lacked the passion that I associate with Jaci's books. No sparks between h/h. I liked the heroine ok, but Luke was unlikeable to me. He was a "hit it and quit it" kind of guy. After their fabulous sex-filled weekend together at the cabin, he doesn't call her or see her for a week. Accidentally ran into her, otherwise I'm sure it would've been even longer. His excuse of course was he's so busy with work. It takes less than a minute to text someone and he'd texted her before,but couldn't be bothered. Nah, I would have loved if Jaci would've spiced it up a bit. Maybe have her date Logan since Luke didn't want to have a relationship. Jealousy is a powerful motivator. Anyway, good but not great.

This book is boring! I'm struggling to finish it which I've decided not to bother. There is no story line at all; not really. Two attractive people who because of their pasts don't date, but get involved anyway. I don't see any chemistry between Emma and Luke. I picked the book up because of the side story about dogs. The dogs is the best part of the story.

I love Jaci Burtons play by play series and was really looking forward to this new series but have to say was a little disappointed. Guess I had high expectations. Found the story to be a little slow at times but overall a nice love story

BORING.
This is my first Jaci Burton, and I am definitely wary of investing in any more. Emma is a vet, Luke is a cop, they are both shy about relationships. Fair enough. This is one of those not-much-happens books where there is a slow build to the eventual get together (they have sex, but both are reluctant to commit) but then something "shocking" happens toward the end that's really just an excuse for them to say "I Love You." Slow build stories can be good, but this one is not. The respective internal monologues of each character of reasons why each won't see it as a real thing are repetitive and annoying. Long exchanges of dialogue between secondary characters and main characters through various Sunday dinners lack any zing leading to tepid discourse that is a chore to slog through. I got to page 168 on the hopes that it would get better, and when it didn't I just stopped, skipping to the last two pages for closure.. I saw where it was going pretty early anyway (you will too, I am sure. The story's climax is about as subtle as a speeding freight train with its whistle blowing ) and figured what I imagined in my head happened was way more interesting than what was on the page. Both thumbs way down.

Loved this book - won it from Goodreads and as a new author for me am always a skeptic. The characters were honest and believable. Their development throughout the story was constant. They continued to grow and develop within the storyline and I would recommend this book if you enjoy Robyn Carr, Kristan Higgins, or Bella Andre.

Flamestorm choughed up some blood. "We need a med cat!" Fireflower meowed. Fawnpelt paded out of the medcat den and looked around and saw Flamestorm and paded over "Come with me to the med den." She meowed and helped Flamestorm to the med cat den. Fireflower watched untill she heared something else. She looked out the camp door way nothing was there she sighed with releaf. Cloudstar paded out of his den "What is going on out here?" He meowed sternly. "It is Flamestorm he has been attacked by Bearclan." Fireflower meowed. "My son has been hurt by Bearclan?" He meowed. "Yes. Thats what Flamestorm said." Fireflower meowed. "I belive you Fireflower and my son." He meowed. "Thank you." She meowed. Leafsong paded over "What happened to my Flamestorm?" She meowed. ( Leafsong is Cloudstars mate and Flamestorms mother. ) "Flamestorm has been harmed by Bearclan." Cloudstar meowed. Flamestorm paded out of the med cat den with cobwebs on his wounds. "Flamestorm." Cloudstar meowed. "Coming." Flamestorm meowed and paded over. "Yes?" He meowed. "Did you go into Bearclan terratory?" Cloudstar meowed. "No! They came into our terratory." He meowed. "They did. Bearclan bends the rules but they have gone to far this time." Cloudstar meowed. "You are not gonna go into battle agenst them are you?" Fireflower meowed. "No not now. But soon." Cloudstar meowed he looked at his clan. "We need more warriors. The apprentices will soon get there Warrior names but not now." Cloudstar meowed and looked at the you cats in the clan. Small towns always make for very intimate stories and very obnoxiously lovable friends. The little town of Hope is no different. Everybody knows everyone, and their business. Friends to give you their opinions, whether you want them or not. And a scorching hot man that makes every woman melt into a puddle of goo where they stand. It’s those hot men that we really love so much.
I really adored Emma. From the beginning I could tell she was a positive and independent woman. She was finally achieving her dreams and living her life the way she always wanted. She had a huge love for animals, all kinds, and it was clear she would do everything in her power to help one in need. Her love for animals also translated into who she was as a person. She cared about those around her, but she wasn’t so caring that she couldn’t stand up for her when she needed to. She went through a rough time when she was younger, and made some mistakes that influenced her and her relationships. At certain points she seems to confuse independence with being afraid. But she’s very intelligent, even though it might take some time for her to figure everything out. She never wanted to fall for someone after the events of her past, but Luke was an unexpected complication—with a badge, smoldering hot looks, and a passion and dedication that really could make a woman’s heart stop. Emma is the kind of woman I would like to have as a best friend. Her positivity and brightness could bring a smile to anyone’s face. And her love for Luke…well, that’s just straight-up hot.
Luke really captured my attention. Not only because he was hot a sin, but because his presence was truly compelling. As a cop, he oozes respect and sex appeal, but as a man, he is protective and passionate. He loves his dog and cares about him like he were his son. He seemed a bit lost in his life, like he was just living each day, doing the same routine, wondering if this is what he really wants. He did his job well, but his heart was missing something, and it showed at times. You could see he had been hurt by something, and that to this day, it was messing with what he truly desired deep down inside. He knew how to enjoy life, but after Emma entered it, everything changed. Not only was he missing something, but he realized nothing would be the same without her. He really liked her as a person, and loved her as a woman. It was almost like he was finding himself with her. He really opened up and became someone he knew was inside him, but never thought he would be again. He was willing to fight for the town of Hope, and for the woman who stole his heart, and he was rewarded with a woman who not only loved animals, but loved him for who he really was.
I really enjoyed Emma and Luke’s story. There really wasn’t anything about either of them to dislike. But I did feel like something was missing. They really complimented each other well. They genuinely were people I would love to have in my life. But something in their relationship was missing that spark that I usually get from a Burton romance. Her loved scenes were scorching, but something just felt left out.
Overall, I’m enjoying where this new series is heading. The town and characters seems absolutely amazing and I can’t wait to take another stroll through Hope. Definitely an enjoyable read.
