Return to the “steamy and dreamy” (Publishers Weekly) world of Christine Feehan’s New York Times bestselling Carpathian novels as thundering passions signal a dark force on the horizon…

Buried alive for hundreds of years in a volcano in South America, Dax worries that he has become the abomination that every Carpathian male fears, a victim of the insidious evil that has crept relentlessly into his mind and body over the centuries. But Dax isn’t the only one emerging from the darkness…

His name is Mitro, and he once stood by the side of the prince of the Carpathian people. Now he is the epitome of malevolence, and perpetrator of one of the most shocking killing sprees known to man. No one escaped the bloodshed, including his lifemate, Arabejila.

Now, between Dax and Mitro, a violent game has begun—one that has marked Riley Parker, the last descendent of Arabejila, as the reward.

I LOVED IT A MUST READ!!!

This review is from: Dark Storm (Carpathian) (Hardcover)
First let me say I don't understand the 1 and 2 star ratings, this is a very good story an a bit different than the other Dark series books, which makes it totally interesting. Sometime I think other authors send their devout minions to do harm to other better selling authors. I have seen this pattern for a few years now and It's just not right!!

I loved Riley she is a descendant of Arabejila the "Flower Lady" as some refer to her from previous Dark series books. Christine Feehan has given us and intelligent young women, who has eminence powers of her own. She is not a warrior'hunter like Natalya Ivory and Destiny' but she could be with the power she wills. Riley is very feminine and makes a great Lifemate to Danutdaxton "Dax", the Carpathian hunter who has voluntarily imprisoned himself to trap Mitro the most vile powerful vampire so far in the Dark series. They have be imprisoned their for centuries inside a volcano.

The story is fast paced the battle scene between Dax and Mitro are amazing. I couldn't believe Mitro's family linage you will be shocked when you find out who's family he is from, but it does explain why he was the most powerful vampire so far. The love scenes are not as many, but are just as scorching HOT AND SEXY!! Dax is the oldest Carpathian alive and he can do amazing things, He is so deserving of Riley. They are my all time new perfect couple. We also, get to visit old friends the De La Cruz family.

The story has a bit of humor to it. Making it not so depressing as PR sometimes can be. I really liked that Gary Jensen and Jubal Sanders were main characters in the book. They lived up to what we have come to expect of them, as being human companions to the Carpathian people.

THIS BOOK IS A MUST READ!! and like I said I really don't get the 1 an 2 stars for this book and I always respect others opinion, but I had to speck out this time and say they must have had other motives. I will say one thing that I agree with it is time to bring the series to an honorable happy close!!! VERY WELL DONE CHRISTINE!!!

    Wonderful -- as always!

My only complaint was that it was too short! I could have read another 300+ pages! I enjoyed the fact that Riley accepted him right away and didn't fight their relationship. It put a different spin on her books. Well done ... can't wait for the next one to come out.

    Big disappointment

It is a retread. With a dragon thrown in for a different mix. Author uses a lot of filler to disguise that this is a very short book.

    CARPATHIANS...NEED I SAY MORE???

HAS NOT SHIP UNTIL SEPT. 4TH, I EXPECT IT WILL A 5-STAR BOOK LIKE THE OTHERS! NO REASON TO THINK OTHERWISE. CHRISTINE FEEHAN HAS ALWAYS DELIVERED A MASTERFULLY WRITTEN STORY WHICH FOLLOWS THE PREVIOUS BOOK AND A CONTINUATION OF THE FAMOUS CARPATHIAN SERIES!

I DON'T KNOW HOW SHE KEEPS THE STORIES COMING, BUT I HOPE SHE'LL CONTINUE FOR A LONG TIME!

    100 pages before they meet

The story is a good one since the bad vampire is from a well known family. I really liked how Feehan modified usual vampire vs carpathian traits, abilities etc. Gave them more power. Riley was an intriguing heroine with an amazing gift. Dax is an awesome hero in the mold of Razvan (dark slayer) - his strength has been forged through pain and he's not as arrogant though he seems to be the most powerful carpathian Feehan created. I would love to see Dax use his incredible abilities and physicality in a future Dark book helping Carpathians.

That said, My problem is that it took over 100 pages, most of it without any dialogue before Dax and Riley met. That's way too long! Their love story was great if you stayed patient through the first chapters of no dialogue. I too noticed Feehan's style on the Dark series started changing to focus more on the battles than the love story. She also focuses more now for lack of a better term "healing properties" of the earth and chants etc. She might lose start to lose Dark series readers who like dangerous men with a strong focus on relationships. Lastly I missed steel/ice eyed healer/warrior Gregori, Oh wherefore art thou Gregori D?

My thoughts - LONG TIME FEEHAN FAN

Slow start, its pretty much a horror thriller the first 100 pages then finally gets into the romance. I found that alittle irritating bc this book isnt so focused in the romance the way i thought it woukd be. Herione is too accepting and i know she already was paranornal but id like to see a more strong indepedent woman who doesnt give in too easily. Thats a guy shes going to spend the rest of her life with. Feehan has a great theme of dragons here a bitof horror-cringeworthy especially since i just watched a pirahna movie. I kinda didnt like this one. And why was it 13 instead of 8!? I miss the old christine feehan books rather than recent. Dark prince, dark desire, they focused on the relationship betwween the two characters not just some thriller!

    Sasha

I miss the old christine feehan. This book is terrible. If you can make it past the first 150 pages you might be able to make it to the end. Its torture pure and simple. Last couple of books have been a big disapointment. Used to be a big big fan. This is my last feehan book.

    Awful!

This is the worst book I have ever tried to read. I say tried because it's such an effort. It would seem that Feehan last few attempts at writing have meant with some real difficulty. Just getting through the first 5 chapters is a real hardship. There is very little dialogue and the character Riley is so very dramatic and predictable that it could be laughable.

I ask myself if Feehan wrote book 23 just for the hell of it. Don't was $13 you could almost buy two good books instead.

Let me explain to those who don't understand the 1 & 2 star

Let me explain to those who don't understand the 1 & 2 star ratings some of us have given this book.  The reason is that we read the "Dark" series because we love stories which mainly compromise the relationship between lifemates.  This book was short on that, and long on horror and gore.  Add to the mix additional, unnecessary characters (particularly Gary & Jubal - if you want to give them a story, please do so without infringing on the Carpathians), and a somewhat convoluted story because 2 stories were going on at once.  Very disappointing.  I've been reading Feehan's Dark series since she began writing them, and this was probably her worst.  Dark Prince, Dark Legend, Dark Predator, Dark Slayer, stick to that...if it ain't broke, please don't try to fix it.

    Highly Recommended

As usual Christine Feehan has provided an excellent book. I have read every one of her books in the Dark Series, the Ghost Walker Series, the Drake series & the Shape shifters. Everything she produces is top notch. She had tons of research on the Carpathians which are a whole different breed of species which she has made to come to life in her Dark Series books. Each book is awesome & so well written. I have a hard time putting any of them down. I usually read one book in a week and that is after work & all the other activities I do. I would recommend this author's work to anyone who likes paranormal romance. Her books are the epitamy of romance, suspense, mystery and adventure. I love her books!!

    Highly Disappointing

It was bad, it was horribad, I had higher hopes for it. I mean for universe sake the vampire was a Daratrazanoff and neither Gary nor Jubal mentioned it to Gregori, the other brothers weren't even mentioned. and then the ending was just sooooooooooo bleh. I expected more but what can ya do.

    more from this reviewer

    Disappointed . . . . again.

Another disappointing book in the Dark Series. Where is the Christine Feehan that use to write these books? Is she writing so many series that she can't focus enough to write the great books that the earlier series were? I wish she'd come back. The first half of the book was so boring that it was hard to keep reading. When the love story finally kicked in it was heartwarming but then the book just hurried to the end. Thank goodness I still have J.R. Ward and Nalini Singh's books to look forward to since I won't the Dark Series anymore.

    Disappointed!!

I Love the Dark Series I am HUGE fan. BUT this story was way to short definitely not worth the $13 I paid. Ending could have been better and it was really challenging to finish b/c it was so predicable. Last couple of books have been a disappointment. I will give her another shot but if its as bad and/or as short as this one I think I will stop reading the series :(

Recommended all of the Christine Feehan series's

The characters personality's always grab you each in their own way.
You can read them out of order and enjoy them, but if you start at the first in a series and work your way though the story line is more involved and the read more rewarding when you know the history. You watch then grow and change, and you wonder what if, then you look forward to the next step in the series to come out.

    Couldn't finish it

I am a huge fan of Christine Feehan. I have read ALL of her books. Unfortunately the dark series has gotten more and more predictable and boring. This book started out great. Until the two characters meet one third of the way through the book. There just isn't any chemestry.

I have tried to plow through but the first time they make love (I'm assuming they'll finally get to it) drags on so long with her internal thinking that I read a line here and there, skipping pages and pages and pages.

I'm done reading this book. I never thought I would do this to a Feehan book but I can't finish this. If it gets better I'll never know. I paid way too much for this.

This book would have been better if Ms Feehan had left out the romance part of it completely.

If this had been any other author, this book would have gotten no more than 2 stars.

    Must read

don't read for Mrs. Feehan name only. Read it because she is a very talent writer. And this book is a must read book. I love her Dark series the best. Her other series are good, but I am won over by her Dark series.
