The second book in the Ivy Chronicles was as good as the first in my opinion. I stayed up late to read and find out what would happen. A great thing about this series is you still see the people you loved from the first. I am not giving away spoilers but trust me you will love this story of how Emerson and Shaw fight, banter, and even give up one each other. You never know what will happen when they are in the same room, it is explosive!
Emerson has a reputation that she has worked hard to perfect. She parties on the weekends, never leaving the bar without a hookup. She never has to buy her own drinks and can spot the “right” guy a mile away. She stays away from anyone she can’t control and that might make her feel something the next morning. She breaks the rules unless they are her own. Only problem with her plan: Shaw.
Shaw sees Emerson and knows she is trouble even before she starts a bar fight that he has to save her from. After being ditched at a rowdy biker bar, Emerson is forced to accept the Hot bad boy bikers help to get home. She is determined to keep Shaw away from her even when he suddenly shows up everywhere she is. Her friends can see there is something between Emerson and Shaw, but she refuses to let him in. Then the past and secrets she has kept hidden come back to haunt her. Life might end for Emerson before she even gets a real chance to live it… To find out what secrets she is hiding and if Emerson can let them go and trust her heart you will need to buy the second book in this great series.

This is the second new adult romance in the Ivy Chronicles series by Sophie Jordan. Interestingly, Jordan also writes historical romances which I have yet to read. But I plan to.
Last year, I read (and loved) Foreplay, the first book in this series about three college roommates and best friends who find love as they work through rough patches in their respective lives. In that first book, Emerson Wingate is the wild party girl who never takes anything seriously and who keeps everyone at arm’s length, especially guys. Tease is her story, where we finally learn more about her background, her painful past, and the reasons why she has built a strong wall around herself.
Like Foreplay, Tease is written in the engaging and gripping first person point of view. This allows the reader to really get to know the protagonist, to feel her emotions and thoughts, and understand her actions and decisions. Jordan creates a hero and heroine to love and a story you can’t stop reading.
Emerson Wingate is the daughter of wealth and privilege, whose parents are divorced and who had a pretty lonely childhood. There are several secrets she holds inside her that has prompted her to create an image of devil-may-care and flirtation, one that finally lands her into trouble.
The only time Emerson allows herself to lose control is in her art, but when she begins to paint from her heart, it frightens her and makes her doubt herself again.
Enter Shaw, a gorgeous guy who looks like a bad biker boy; Emerson meets him on an ill-fated outing at Maisie’s, a dangerous bike bar. But he’s nothing like her usual college boy hookups. He rescues her—multiple times—as they meet up, at a party, at a club, etc. He’s friends with Reece—from Foreplay, which is a little too convenient but it works here. He cares about her, he sees right through her protective shell, who she really is. He tells her she can pursue her dreams and gives her courage. Shaw is a former Marine, from a different world than Emerson’s, but he can’t stay away from her. He’s kind and honorable and very protective.
But that’s not what Emerson wants him to see. He frightens her, with his perceptiveness, his eagerness to rescue her, and his devastating attractiveness. It unnerves her and she runs away at every opportunity even as she can’t stop thinking about him and wanting to know more.
“Love was losing control. And I never lost control. I just made it look like I did—hooking up with different guys every week—but I was always full cognizant of my actions. In charge every moment along the way.” (p3)
I love the artistic descriptions that Emerson gives of Shaw’s place; it sounds like a peaceful and beautiful place, a place one could lose control without fear.
"Bare wood walls stared back at me. I was in a single room, light and airy despite the darkness of the walls. Light streamed in from several windows in the kitchen area. A pair of double glass doors to the left of the bed granted me a marginal view of the outside world.” (p37)
The story is gripping, inspiring me to turn the pages to find out what would happen next. Emerson and Shaw’s sexual attraction is palpable and evident but not overt and gratuitous. There is a lot going on behind the emotions that Emerson desperately tries to keep in check.
But Shaw is always there. He’s the rock that Emerson needs to lean on. And it’s beautiful to read.

My only complaint is the cover. I picture Shaw as much hotter than that guy!
I can’t wait to read Georgia’s story next!

A must-read for New Adult fiction lovers!
It was fantastically good, and I absolutely loved it, of course. I expected that I would after my reaction to FOREPLAY, book 1 in The Ivy Chronicles series.
Taking a look at my numerous bookmarks and highlighted passages made me wish that I had an infinite amount of time to immediately re-read fantastic stories like this.
I seriously think I highlighted and/or bookmarked 90% of Emerson & Shaw's interactions.
I'll limit myself to sharing only 2 of my many favorite passages:
'He was mind-numbingly hot, but it was more than that.
It was in his eyes, the intense way that he looked at me.
Nothing about this was familiar.
Nothing about the way we were with each other was like anything I had experienced.
I was not in control. Of him. Of me.' Emerson, Ch. 7
'Loving someone is scary. That was part of it. Always.

Again, I really liked this one. Shaw was smoking hot and I was surprised myself by liking Emerson as much as I did. She isn't quite who she appears to be. This pairing is kind of an opposites attract type of story, but then again...so was the first book in a way. I will say that I CAN'T WAIT for Wild!!! If you read the first book in the series, definitely pick this one up.

Emerson is a party girl who enjoys a good time, but she never goes too far and never gives her heart. She doesn't know what she's getting into when she meets Shaw for the first time. Shaw isn't about to play her games. He wants the real Emerson and isn't going to stop until he finds a way to bring it out of her. Did I mention Shaw is super sweet and swoony? Because he totally is. Sigh.
I loved these two together. Their chemistry was off the charts and the passion between them was intense. I thoroughly enjoyed reading along as they discovered each other – and themselves. The romance was sweet, the sexy times just that and the feels abundant. Books like this are why I enjoy new adult so much. I wouldn't call Tease angsty, but it definitely packs an emotional punch.
I adore Sophie Jordan's writing and her Ivy Chronicles series. If you're a fan of new adult contemporary books and not yet reading this series, what exactly are you waiting on? It's true that Tease can be read as a standalone, but if you did that, you'd be missing out on Reece and Pepper, and believe me when I say, you don't want that. I'm definitely eager for Wild, the next book in this series.

After having read and loved the first book in the series, Foreplay, I couldn't wait to continue the series! I really like Sophie's writing style and she does a great job of developing relationships between her main characters. I didn't quite like Tease as much as Foreplay, but I did enjoy watching party girl Emerson snag herself a man!
Pacing: Emerson and Shaw's relationship felt well-paced and certainly not too rushed. He helps Emerson out of a less than desirable situation, thus igniting an attraction that neither one are strong enough to deny.
Storyline: Emerson has always been known as a party girl. Going out on the weekends and hooking up is her MO and everyone at school knows it. Now that her best friends both have boyfriends, she is definitely feeling the sting of loneliness. However, as lonely as she is, she thinks falling in love is a loss of control and Emerson doesn't lose control. Meeting Shaw throws her off balance, as she is attracted to him. Shaw seems to be popping up wherever she is lately, as he went to high school with Reece, Pepper's boyfriend. Emerson isn't looking for more with anyone, but Shaw isn't easily deterred....
Characters: Emerson carries some demons from her past, which in turn dictate a lot of her actions in the present. I felt for her, as I can't imagine the betrayal she felt from her the person she trusted most of all. Because her mother did not believe her when she came to her, their relationship is severely strained. However, until Emerson lets go of the past and in turn her fears, she will continue down the same path as she is now. Shaw plays a large role in helping negate this, but she does not make it easy for him. She plays the part of a party girl and makes it look like she's easy, but she's always been in control of her actions and her environment. Shaw crashes into her life and will not give up on getting her to admit she feels something for him too.
I really liked Shaw. He has just gotten back from being deployed in the Marines and has witnessed the death of his cousin. He has tended to keep to himself, which is natural after feeling like he wasn't able to protect his cousin. Breaking the news to his cousin, Beth, about her brother was not easy and now there is a tension between them as well.
The only reason he ended up at Maisie's bar is to scout for prospective clients. Maisie's is a biker bar and Shaw wants to open his own shop for custom bikes. He sees Emerson and instantly knows she doesn't belong there. I like how chivalrous Shaw is. He didn't have to help Emerson, especially after how she behaved, and yet he did. He sees through the 'princess' act and recognizes that she has no one else and still helps her. She doesn't want to feel for him, but she does- he's persistent and doesn't give up on her easily.
We get to see Reece, Pepper, and Georgia again in this book! I loved seeing Reece and Pepper so happy together. Pepper and Georgia are great friends to Emerson and I'm glad Jordan put such a focus on that friendship. I'm really looking forward to Georgia's story, it will be interesting to see how she tries to shed her good girl image to spice things up!
Final Thoughts: While I enjoyed this, I do feel a few things could have been expanded upon a bit more. I didn't feel like I got to know Shaw quite as well as I did Emerson, and I would have liked a bit more from him. I also feel the storyline with his cousin, Beth, didn't get quite resolved. We saw Emerson speak to her about Shaw, but we don't really know if anything came of it.
I do like that we got to see Shaw finally break down Emerson's walls and I give him mad props for being as persistent as he was. Most guys would've abandoned that chase way before. They have delicious sexual tension and Jordan knows her way around a good love scene! This isn't an overly original storyline by any means and that might bother some people who are getting burned out on New Adult contemps, but for me, Jordan's writing is just that engaging and I can't wait for the next book in the series!

Sophie has done it again with the 2nd in the Ivy Chronicle series. I would love to meet someone like Shaw. He is the quintessential bad boy but he has a heart of gold. Emerson has definitely met her match with him and I was shocked with her secrets. One I pretty much guessed but the other I was like what??????????????Thank you Sophie for such a great story and I hope to see you in San Antonio and buy a paper guy so you can sign this one also and add it to my collection. I can't wait for Georgia's story. I was hoping Logan would still be there.
I love Shaw. That should say it all. He's a Marine just out of the service and hurting. Loss is a huge part of his life. He's staying someplace that emotional for him and he's building a life for himself despite the pain. He has the a soldiers desire to protect and help. And he's attracted to Emerson. She's a spitfire and he knows it's a bad idea. She's hiding something but he wants her. And he decides to stop resisting. Then he goes after her. I love it. I love him.
When two characters are resisting each other and one decides to stop resisting, then the fun starts. Shaw is confident and determined. But Emerson is desperate to keep her secrets hidden. But he will figure them out and he will succeed. He is, after all, a Marine.
Foreplay was perfect. So loved that book. New Adult at it's best. But I think I loved Tease better. The thing is that I loved both of these main characters and I was taken back by how much the story mattered to me. I was surprised by some little secrets along the way. I was desperate to find out the end but dreading it's ending. It was perfect.
Yummy, delicious and satisfying, if you love NA then get this one soon.
