There's a new sheriff in Fallbrook … Meet Dylan McBride.

Jessie Thompson had one hell of a week. Dylan McBride, the boy she loved, skipped town without a word. Then her drunk of a father tried to kill her, and she fled Fallbrook, vowing never to return.

Eight years later, her father is dead, and Jessie reluctantly goes home—only to come face-to-face with the man who shattered her heart. A man who, for nearly a decade, believed she was dead.

Dylan accepted the position as sheriff of Fallbrook looking for a fresh start and a chance to uncover the truth about Jessie's disappearance. He knew he'd have to face a few ghosts … he just never thought one would be Jessie, all grown up, stunning … and alive.

The pull between them is instant, but Dylan's heart has already mourned Jessie, and she has secrets she can never share. Can they escape the darkness of their past for a chance at a bright future together?

Meet the Author

Jennifer Ryan is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of The Hunted series and the McBride series. She writes romantic suspense and contemporary small-town romances featuring strong men and equally resilient women. Her stories are filled with love, friendship, and the happily-ever-after we all hope to find. Jennifer lives in the San Francisco Bay Area with her husband, three children, dog (Bella), and cat (Shadow). When she isn't writing a book, she's reading one. Her obsession with both is often revealed in the state of her home and in how late dinner is to the table. When she finally leaves those fictional worlds, you'll find her in the garden, playing in the dirt and daydreaming about people who live only in her head, until she puts them on paper.

This is the third book in the series. I've previously read and reviewed the first two. there may be spoilers about those books in this review, so reader beware.

    Return of Brody McBride

    Falling for Owen

This is soap opera in novel form, so if that isn't what you are in the mood for, you probably won't enjoy this story. There's over the top plot lines, calamity after calamity, characters monaloguing at each other rather than actual dialogue, and an oblivious hero who can't see that two plus two equals four. That's not to say I didn't like it, I did, but having read the previous two I knew what I was in for.

Dylan McBride (cousin to the previous two McBride boys) thinks that Jessie Thompson, the woman he loved in high school, is dead and that her father killed her and got away with it. When Mr. Thompson drops dead, Dylan and the whole town finally learned that Jessie is actually alive, has been living in the next town over, and actually DOES BUSINESS in her hometown. See, as I said, total soap opera. Much like in Return of Body McBride, we have a heroine who has practically been in stasis since he left, and a hero who wasn't quite so pure. This isn't thrown in our faces quite as much with Dylan, and frankly, Dylan wasn't quite so bad (but then he also didn't have that sort of history that would make me forgive him as much so it evens out), and Jessie kind of had more reason than most to shut herself away from men. What I really liked about this story was how much each of them, but particularly Jessie, had accomplished on their own. They had lives, and careers, and friends and families of sort of their own. Yes, they have secrets and mis-communications and Dylan has to have an anvil dropped on his head because delicate hints that are like two by fours across the head just were not helping him discover her secrets, this is soap opera land after all. Still, I enjoyed reading about them and how they got together and dealt with their pasts. And this book, being the closing of the trilogy also clears up a lot of why the McBride brothers' pasts were the way they were. And while this particular book doesn't have the same kind of dangerous villain the previous two did, the villains were satisfyingly over the top bad and the resolution was equally satisfying and I was pleased with the happily ever after, as even with all the soap opera-esque elements, that part felt real to me.

3.5 stars and I'd recommend this series to anyone with a yen for soap opera on paper.

A second chance love story that will break your heart as fast as

A second chance love story that will break your heart as fast as it will mend it.

Dylan and Jessie go through a lot of physical and emotional hardships in this book and really twisted my heart every way imaginable. I loved the story, loved the characters and loved the strength of both Jessie and Dylan.

The McBrides sure know how to capture my heart. These men have been forged in the fires of their deeply shattered pasts, shaping them into strong, hardworking men with hearts full of unconditional love.

I did notice that some of the dialogue was drawn out and repeated but it didn’t take away from my enjoyment of the story.

I’m wondering whose book is next. Will the series end here or is there another McBride waiting in the wings? Oh! Or…will there be a time jump and we get to see the McBride children as adults??? I’m curious to see what direction the author will take.

This story is not a light-hearted happily ever after; it’s a deeply painful journey of loss, regret, betrayal, abuse and sorrow. But the strongest and most pure form of love is that which has endured all these things and more and is still unbreakable. I invite you to experience Dylan and Jessie’s story.

Jessie has overcome a lot over the years. She survived a father

Jessie has overcome a lot over the years. She survived a father who tried to kill her and the boy who left with her heart. She left at fifteen only to come back home when she hears her father has died. She means to put him to rest and keep going on in her life. Problems arrive when she comes face to face with the boy who broke her heart. Dylan never thought to see Jessie again. After all everyone thought she was dead. He loved her years ago but had already made plans for his future and he was scared of what he felt for her. He became sheriff to help others like her hoping to make up for not being able to help her. There is a lot that is between them secrets, distrust and broken hearts but neither has ever stopped loving the other and Dylan hopes he can make her see he will never leave her again and he wants forever with her.

Dylan is the type of guy you hope you end up with. He is a great dad, takes care f people who need it and romantic. He loves Jessie and you can see clearly he is hurting for all she has gone through. He will do anything to help her overcome their past and get her to marry him. I don't know where to even start with Jessie. To say she has had it rough is putting it mildly. She has overcome almost dying, being out on her own at a young age, heartache and so much more. She has become a huge success and is proud of the work she does. She works hard, is smart and doesn't want anyone to look down on her. I love her so much. She has been down a road that would kill most. She never has dated since Dylan and never stopped caring about him.

I have enjoyed all the books I have read in this series so far but I have to say this one has been my favorite. Jessie alone makes this book such a wonderful read. You get sucked into her life what it was and what she has been through and you just want to go on a rampage and take out those that hurt her. She had two people who helped her and they are her true family. I felt so bad for her and Dylan after the secrets started coming out. I applaud Dylan for what he does and the stand he takes. He tries everything he can to make things up even when he is hurting as well. I will say his parents I hated. I have never seen such petty, snotty people who need their butts kicked so bad before. There is romance and love in this book as well no worries it isn't all series but I can't promise you won't shed a few tears some of joy some of sorrow. I would tell anyone to read this book and the rest of the series.

    Great book

This is a great book. I've loved all the McBride books but this one is my favorite. I had lots of tissues for this one, at times my heart just broke. The only negative would be I thought the ending was a little rushed, but it did not take away from the story. You can't go wrong with this series.

Jennifer Ryan tackles issues of the day ¿ from Brody¿s PTSD, Owe

Jennifer Ryan tackles issues of the day – from Brody’s PTSD, Owen’s obsessive stalker, and now child abuse with Dylan. This book will just make you sick thinking about all the children out there that are going through this abuse. All the lies, betrayal, innuendoes, family and friends make this a very enjoyable story. The old saying about the course of true love never runs smoothly sure applies here.

One of the things I love about signing up for review tours is that I get to find new to me authors. I am really happy that I read this book and I even went and bought the first two in the series after finishing this one. Now I just have to find the time to read them. lol I found myself having a very hard time focusing on anything else once I started Dylan's Redemption. There were times when the story dragged a bit but there was enough conflict to keep me entertained the whole time. Although I will say that the mother is way too much. She was so over the top that it went way into the realm of crazy town. I laughed and got a bit teary eyed at times and overall I just really liked the story. I am really looking forward to reading the first two in the series and I'm hoping for more in the series as well.

I loved this 3rd book in Ms. Ryan's McBride series.  All of them

I loved this 3rd book in Ms. Ryan's McBride series.  All of them were very good.  The story of lost, and found, love between Dylan and Jessi was heart-wrenching.  This was very emotional at times and I had to blink away tears many times.

Pick up this book and the two other in the series.  You will like them very much.  I am looking forward to her next series coming winter 2015.
