Overview

Gray Preston was born into money, but he’s built his racing empire on hard work and muscle. And now that Gray has millions of fans, his senator father sends one of his aides, Evelyn Hill, to elicit Gray’s help in garnering votes for the upcoming national election. Gray wants nothing to do with his estranged father’s campaign, but Evelyn can be pretty persuasive. She’s willing to learn about racing, and maybe even get a little dirty.

Evelyn’s number-one goal is politics, which makes working with Gray difficult, because his only passion is fast cars. As she and Gray spend time together, he teaches her about the sport he loves, and she learns a lot about the man behind the wheel. The more she learns, the more she wants him. But any desire that threatens to derail the carefully laid plans for her future is a dangerous one.

With the passion Gray and Evelyn share running hotter than either imagined, one of them is going to have to compromise, or else run the risk of losing more than their hearts.

"In the sixth Play-by-Play book, Burton immerses [fans] in a new sport—-racing. But the new activity doesn't change the series' standard formula: one testosterone-driven male plus one independent lady on a mission equals romance." —-RT Book Reviews

    Wow

    ## WAIT. Please let's just take a moment and take in this spectacular cover. Holy hotness batman, this guy is HOT. Now, the story: I buy everything Jaci Burton writes. She is one of my "go to" authors when I'm in desperate need of a brilliant book. I was not disappointed. I loved Gray and Evelyn's story. They had a lot of fun getting to know each other and tons of hot sex. Their connection was delightful for sure. Other reviewers didn't like Evelyn. I adored her! I thought she was beautiful, strong, smart, kind and playful (and I'm damn picky when it comes to my heroines). Note to Ms. Burton: More please!

    Another Winner!!

Hot doesn't begin to describe this book by Jaci Burton... I have read all six books in this series and loved them all... My one complaint with this one is I felt the characters (Evelyn and Gray) spent 90% of their time in bed... A very good story line and exciting racing scenes but I could have done with a little more story and a little less sex in this one...

Really disappointed in this one! No chemistry between these two

Really disappointed in this one! No chemistry between these two characters and I'm a firm believer that politics don't belong in the bedroom. Especially not my romance novels! With the seedy underbelly of politics today, I'm just not buying this whole Camelot/Cinderella crap! I think this line of novels probably should have ended with the previous book in this series. This one seems forced, impractical and watered down.

    Meh

Evelyn and Grayson's story. I enjoyed the previous books in the series, this one was lacking. The love story seemed really rushed, the sex scenes were repetitive and Evelyn was beyond annoying. It was difficult to get into the story when I was irritated with a main character and couldn't understand why Grayson would love her back. I ended up skimming through 2/3 of the book, therefore I didn't get my $ worth. :(

“…Jaci delivers and then some.” ~Under the Covers

I’ve been anxiously awaiting Gray’s story since he appeared in THROWN BY A CURVE. Why? Well, the stock car driver thing for one. Having read a whole series (by Erin McCarthy) that centers around that sport, I already had a soft spot for that. I couldn’t wait to see what Jaci would do. And as always, Jaci delivers and then some.

ONE SWEET RIDE is not just the story of a stock car driver. There are so many layers to Gray that we get to slowly see. His father is a politician so there’s a lot of that in this book as well. Especially when Evelyn turns out to be working for his father’s campaign and assigned to get the problematic son on board with supporting his dad and doing some media promo for the campaign.

Gray and his father have issues. Issues that come from Gray following his dreams in what appeared to be (and was for a while) against his dad’s wishes. Their relationship is strained to say the least.

When sexy Evelyn is basically glued to his side to help work with him in his dad’s best interest (she works for him after all) he’s very conflicted. He wants her more than any other woman, but he also admires her ambition and drive. However, she’s so deep in a world that has left a sour taste in his mouth for a long time.

Gray was absolutely delicious! I don’t know if he will take any top spot for fave hero in this series but he is definitely hot and sweet. Loyal to his friends and family. Respectful and supportive of his tough girl as well. He doesn’t try to keep Evelyn down, but lets her fly and reach for her dreams. Even when that means less time for him or a harder relationship to handle.

This book again brings back the feel of “family” by way of the friendship between this new group of guys. Gray and his friends are like a family and their interactions feel much like the Riley family used to feel. I look forward to their easy banter and the way they relate to each other. They may tease one another but in the end they’ll be there no matter what. I cannot wait to read more of that.

This book also gives us glimpses into the next two heroes and let me tell you….I AM DYING to get my paws on both! *ehem* The books, I mean, of course.

    Too much sex without substance

I never thought I would say that but even with hot race car driver, the sex scenes were boring. No connection there. The only thing that saved the book was Ms. Burtons skill at writing.

I¿m going to level with you and go totally superficial on this r

I’m going to level with you and go totally superficial on this review, well part of it anyway. Gray Preston is smokin’ hot! There’s just something about a man who races cars that is incredibly sexy. Not sure if it’s the adrenaline rush or the fact that he is harnessing all that horsepower and bending it to his will, but it’s HOT! Evelyn never had a chance. I know she was sent to get Gray on board the campaign train for his dad, but the racing is what hooked me into the story.

Gray doesn’t want anything to do with his father or his bid for vice president, and he tells Evelyn that while quickly escorting her out the door. But Evelyn is persistent and calls Gray’s mom in for backup. There’s no way he can say no to his mom. Gray is super-pissed Evelyn went behind is back, and lets her know he will be kicking and screaming the entire way. Evelyn is up for the challenge and will do everything possible in order to secure her job and Gray’s cooperation. However, as the two remain in close proximity, feelings start to develop. Evelyn can win the battle against Gray’s stubbornness, but will victory come at the expense of losing her heart?

Something that stuck in my craw was towards the end of the book when Gray hadn’t been around but he’d encouraged Evelyn to follow her dreams and her career. Evelyn gets pissed at Gray and ends up breaking up with him because she feels he thinks she isn’t strong enough to handle her career and him. I couldn’t follow her logic. All I saw was a man understanding what’s important to a woman and encouraging her to go after it. Luckily, Carolina (Gray’s sister) was thinking the same thing I was and kicked Evelyn’s ass for it.

This book is an adrenaline rush to the senses. Not only are the race scenes exciting, but the love scenes are even better! I really enjoyed the story but there were so many secondary characters I would have loved to have seen more of. Another great book from Jaci Burton!

Too much sex without real connection. Did not get to know Evenlyns story and did not really see what drove her? As for Gray, what was his big problem with his Dad. Shouldn't he be happy that he was healthy, happy and living his dream despite his father's lack of interest. Evelyn's story, no idea?

One Sweet Ride by Jaci Burton is the 6th book in her awesome Play-by-Play series and again it does not disappoint, with that said, fasten your seat belts ladies and get ready for a story that will keep you on the edge of you seats and very satisfied. Let's review.

Evelyn Hill is aide to Senator Maxwell Preston, Vice-Presidential candidate. She has dreams and goals to someday be in the White house herself, but for now she is hard at work trying to get the Senator the VP nomination. They need exposure and who better to help them than the Senators son, Grayson Preston, Owner and Driver of the Preston Racing Team. Gray has a huge fan base and if Evelyn can convince Gray to help their cause then the Senator Preston will certainly make the cut. Evelyn figures the best way to earn Gray's trust and convince him to help is to learn everything she can about the sport that he loves so much, NASCAR.

Gray wants nothing to do with his father or his bid for VP. After a falling out with his father over his choice of college and career, they have not seen or spoken to each other in years. But Evelyn will not take no for an answer, after enlisting the help of Gray's mother, he reluctantly agrees to help, but on his terms. Evelyn tries every chance she gets to get Gray to understand that he father has changed, but Gray sticks to his guns and fights her on getting too involved with the campaign. When a secret is revealed will it help Gray change is opinion of his father?

There is an instant connection between Gray and Evelyn. Both are career focused, driven individuals who know what they want out of life. But what I loved most about these characters is their depth. Under the surface there was so much more to them and as their story unfolds you learn more and more about their lives and dreams, what makes them the people that they are, what drives them to succeed. They also realize that they have much more in common than either of them thought, from their love of art and theater, to quiet walks on the beach and fast muscle cars. They are both in love with each other, but neither wants to limit the others potential or make each other choose a life together while sacrificing their dreams. I loved that about these characters, they were not all about themselves, they each tried to put the others happiness and dreams before their own.

So, if you are looking for a great summer time read with Hot Guys, Fast Cars, and a Wonderful story line, run out and pick up a copy of this book. You will be in for "One Sweet Ride."
