Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
Beautiful, naïve Lanie Talbot is so devoted to caring for her ailing mother and unemployed father that she puts herself up for auction, selling her virginity and two years of constant sexual availability to the highest bidder. Noah Calhoun, a driven but philanthropic business tycoon, turns to the underground sex trade in hopes of satisfying his physical needs while protecting his shattered heart. He and Lanie—who trade off narrating their intertwined tale—butt heads constantly, but their passion for each other is undeniable. Readers may be troubled by the depictions of the present-day sex industry, both positive (Lanie is breathlessly attracted to her “buyer” and he’s kind and generous to her) and negative (Lanie’s best friend assures her that she is “way too good for this sort of thing,” unlike the other women in the room), as well as the shame Lanie feels and sometimes projects onto others for having desires. Even so, smoldering sex scenes and a cliffhanger ending will leave erotica fans panting for more. Agent: Alexandra Machinest, Janklow & Nesbit Associates. (Sept.)

To save her mother's life, a beautiful virgin sells herself to a wealthy millionaire at an auction. When her mother is dying, Delaine Talbot swears she'll do anything to raise the money the family needs for care and surgery. The opportunity arises when she learns of an erotic club in Chicago that auctions women off to wealthy bidders. Delaine is pretty enough, but she's also a virgin--a highly desired commodity in that market. So she puts herself on the block to make the necessary cash to save her mother. How fortunate she is that on this particular night, the most eligible bachelor in Chicago is present and decides to take pity on her when she tosses a begging look toward his darkened bidding room; his winning bid keeps her out of the clutches of a veritable Jabba the Hutt. Noah is rich and gorgeous, and while he tells himself and her that he will treat her like a plaything, he never really does. He takes her to his palatial home, where she proceeds to veer back and forth between acting like a shrew by treating him like a villain and falling rapturously into bed with him. While Delaine's decision to sell herself is well-motivated, it's about the only thing that really is for the rest of the book. Apparently, Noah is supposed to be a wounded alpha hero masking a heart of gold, but he generally comes across as a wimpy, dark-hero wannabe who won't stand up to the harpy he paid a fortune for. Despite selling herself to a man who now essentially owns her, under contract, Delaine basically behaves like a spoiled 12-year-old in her first relationship, punishing him for having had the audacity to buy her. The plot is linear and simplistic, and the characters do unpleasant and annoying things for no particular reason. Even the sex, which should be erotic, becomes mind-numbing when there seems to be no real character development behind it. A tiresome, vexing shadow of the Fifty Shades phenomenon.

Meet the Author

C. L. Parker is a romance author who writes stories that sizzle. She’s a small-town girl with big-city dreams and enough tenacity to see them come to fruition. Having been the outgoing sort for all her life—which translates to “she just wouldn’t shut the hell up”—it’s no wonder Parker eventually turned to writing as a way to let her voice, and those of the people living inside her head, be heard. She loves hard, laughs until it hurts, and lives like there’s no tomorrow. In her world, everything truly does happen for a reason.

sacrifices we make

Lanie

"You're sure you want to do this?" my way oversexed best friend asked me for what seemed like the millionth time since I'd walked through the doors of the nightclub where she worked--and played--the slut.

Dez was my rock. She held me down when life got too serious, and it was over-the-top serious at the moment. Dez was short for Desdemona, which loosely translated meant "of the devil." She'd changed her name the day she turned eighteen, only because her parents refused to let her do so before then. Seriously, her parents had named her Princess when she was born, but if anyone other than them tried to call her that, it was a bar brawl in the making. Dez was crazy beautiful, the sort of bosomy babe you read about in all the romance novels: long, silky black hair, hourglass figure, legs that go on for days, and the face of a goddess. The only problem was that she carried herself like a biker chick. She also liked to test-ride all the models. Like I said, slut. But I loved her like she was my own flesh and blood. And considering what I was willing to do for my flesh and blood, that was saying a lot.

"No, I'm not sure, Dez, but I have to. So stop asking me before you make me change my mind and I go running out of here like the scaredy cat we both know I really am," I snapped at her.

She never took my drama too personally, because she gave just as good as she got. Boy, did she ever. And she had not an ounce of shame for it.

"And you're really willing to give up your V-card to a total stranger? Sans romance? No wining, no dining, no sixty-nining?" Her incessant questioning grated on my last nerve, but I knew it was because she loved me and wanted to be sure I'd considered everything. We had gone over all the pros and cons with a fine-toothed comb, and I really didn't think we had missed anything. But the unknown was what worried me the most.

"In exchange for my mother's life? In a heartbeat," I said as I followed her down the dark corridor that led to the underbelly of Foreplay, the club where she worked. Foreplay: that was where my life would change. It was the point of no return.

My mother, Faye, was terminally ill. She had always had a weak heart, and it had progressively gotten worse over the years. She had nearly died while giving birth to me, but had managed to bounce back from that and countless other operations and procedures. There was no bouncing back now. Her light was fading entirely too fast.

She was so weak and frail at this stage that she was bedridden, but not before having been in and out of hospitals so much that my father, Mack, had lost his job. He had refused to leave her alone in the name of helping some stupid factory meet its production numbers. I never blamed him for that. She was his wife, and he took his duty as her husband very seriously. She was his to care for, just like she would've cared for him if the roles had been reversed. But no job meant no health insurance. It also meant we were forced to live off the meager savings account my father had managed to tuck away for their golden years. Ergo, purchasing health insurance was a luxury my parents could not afford. Fantastic situation, huh?

Things had gotten even worse. Faye's illness had progressed to the point that a heart transplant was essential in order for her to continue living. That bit of news had taken a toll on all of us, but none more than Mack.

I'd watched my father day in and day out. He had been losing weight, his primary concern for his wife overshadowing his own care. And the dark rings under his red eyes made it obvious that he hadn't been getting as much sleep as he should...

~Reviewed by ANGELA & posted at Under the Covers Book Blog

When I was offered to review this book, naturally, I had to look it up on Goodreads before accepting. From what I can see, readers either hated it or truly loved it. There were a few negative reviews … but instead of deterring me it actually intrigued me. So thanks to those reviews, I took on the task….Well, I loved it!

I have to be honest though. The beginning of this story was a bit bothersome but as I read on, it became tolerable, to scorching hot, to “what-was-it-that-bothered me again?” See, Delaine’s mother is critically ill and not only that she is slowly deteriorating; this ordeal is taking a toll on her father as well. Being in desperation, she took the plunge and sold herself into a two year contract to be a sex slave. Usually sex slavery or selling one’s self is not my cuppa but what helped me overcome this was that it wasn’t drilled over and over. There was no whining about it. Delaine simply sucked it up (pun) and went about her task. But then again, with a man like Noah, you would just forget about everything.

This book was written in both Noah and Delaine’s point of view , so you were able to see what they were thinking about and witness their feelings grow. Their romance was unconventional, but once they fell in love, I thought it was sweet and dreamy.

Delaine’s thoughts had me laugh out loud so many times. She had outrageous terms for body parts and her thoughts sometimes were silly but funny none the less. She reminded me of some PNR heroines who are snarky, has hilarious comebacks and banters. I’m actually glad she had this personality. She wasn’t somber or depressing to read about instead I found her thoughts refreshing.

Noah on the other hand was more on the serious and on the horny side of things. This guy was insatiable. His purpose for purchasing Delaine was pure mechanical. He was to have his way, in any way, without any emotional attachments. Well, can that really happen in a two year contract? Especially if they are both attracted to each other? Nah, he should’ve known better. But then because he was hurt bad before, I guess I can understand his reasons. Don’t get me wrong, Noah wasn’t all about business, he had a funny side too. He can be sweet if he wanted to and most definitely sexy. And talk of which, this book had plenty of steamy scenes that had me fanning for air. Yeah, Ms. Parker can write them pretty well. She may have written the best BJ lesson scene for 2013.

This is my first I’ve read from Ms. Parker and from what I can see, she has a good grip on what an entertaining read is. I was definitely captivated with her characters and scenes that had me reading from one page to the next. I know plenty of people were turned off with Delaine’s decision to trap herself in this contract. As a daughter, I can tell you that I wouldn’t mind making that sacrifice. And as a mother, I would rather die than to let my daughter do such a thing. But I took this novel for the fiction that it is and enjoyed my read. I do have to mention that I was a bit surprised that this was a fan fic based novel. I was even more shocked that Ms. Parker admits it and gives recognition to the person that inspired her. She didn’t try to hide it like a few I’ve known and for that…..I give her credit.

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olso

Our Review, by LITERAL ADDICTION's Pack Alpha - Michelle L. Olson:
*eARC received from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

Since the blurb markets the book for fans of Fifty Shades of Gray and Bared to You, I feel like I need to start my review with a confession..
. I absolutely hated Fifty Shades, and I didn't finish Bared to You because I just couldn't get into it. Being a fan of horror, urban fantasy,
paranormal romance, paranormal erotica, & some romantic suspense, I simply figured that straight erotic romance just wasn't my
thing. With that all said, I'm not sure how useful my input will be, but I'll tell you what I thought and let you go from there...

Some of you may know from reading other reviews and things that this started out several years ago as Twilight FanFic. What I want to
say first off is to forget that you ever heard that. This is simply a steamy erotic romance that happens to be on the same highway as Fifty
Shades and the others who have followed in its wake, but it's its own beautiful creature and should be viewed and judged as such.

The concept is a familiar one - twenty-something virgin hooks up with hot billionaire business tycoon for hot sex. What it has in addition,
however, is a moving baseline story for our heroine which makes her decision to enter into the contract entirely selfless and heartfelt,
and a catalyst for our hero that makes you want nothing more than for him to find his zen and mend is previously shattered heart. What
really set the book apart were the characters and their growth, both individually and toward one another - Noah starts out as a class A
Alpha-hole (albeit a super sexy one), and independent, determined Lanie goes a little bit crazy mid book, but despite it all, their
chemistry is page melting, and their dialogue is laugh-out-loud funny at times.

Having read & loved C.L's Paranormal series (THE SUPERNOVA SAGA), hosted her several times on the website, and talked with her
for years online, I know her personality, and it shines through like a beacon in this book - in the best of ways! Her wit, snark, and
absolute abandon, compiled with her evident lust for life (and lust in general. Hee hee) make for some fabulous reading material, and
a lightness in a book that could easily get much too heavy with the amount of sex and drama. And the nicknames... Yeah, gotta love it! :)
Life's too short to be so damn serious, right!?

Now here's where I'm probably not much help... The eroticism was smokin' and there was PLENTY of it, but because I don't read these
kind of books regularly, I'm not sure if it was enough, just right, or over the top. I felt it fit (from what I know of what fans of the genre
generally look for) and even though I personally skimmed some parts (yeah, I get a little shy...), it was wicked sexy and fun at the same
    time.

This is book #1 of a Duet, so it does end on a pretty big cliff hanger, but the next book will be out before we know it. :)

In short, would I recommend A Million Dirty Secrets to erotic romance lovers who started out as fans of Fifty Shades, Bared to You,
    Wallbanger, etc? Absolutely!

This story took a minute to draw me in, but once it did, I ended

This story took a minute to draw me in, but once it did, I ended up reading it in one sitting because it wouldn't let me go! I really enjoyed how the characters are with each other and feel they make a really good match. They are both so mouthy, both so stubborn and both so inexplicably drawn to each other that I found myself grinning like the Cheshire Cat through 90% of the book. The only downside... it does leave off on a bit of a cliffhanger. Which of course made me run straight to NetGalley to see if the second book was there yet. Sadly it's not so I am going to have to wait. But make no mistake, I will be reading book 2 and seriously hope C.L. makes it as amazing as this on was! I received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

I absolutely loved this book! I am a huge kyra davis, maya banks, and kristen ashley fan, who tends to lean towards romantic suspense. I bought this book and started reading it at 6 last night. I finally called it a night at 3 am!!, and took a shower this morninf and went straight back to reading. Its now 11 am and Im questioning my ability to keep my sanity until the fourth of february, which is a regrettable seven days away!!! Highly reccommend this book!

    OMG!

This book, OMG! This book was everything. I stayed up all night because I couldnt stop reading. I love Noah & Lanie, and Polly I wanted to smack her but loved her just as much. Every since reading 50 shades, I have been looking for another series to capture my heart and I have read a lot of books since then and this is up there with 50 & Crossfire. Most reviews give away the story, when I read a review I just want to know if its worth my time. This was mos def worth my time. Thank you for a wonderful story. I hate that I have to wait until Feb. 14. for the next book, that sucks.

    Holy Moses!

I didn't think I could read anything hotter! This had me giggling, blushing, laughing out loud, and frustrated at both characters. The banter between these two is hilarious and comical all you can do is laugh. From the first page this book leaves you wanting more. Delaine Talbot needs money and fast! Her mother needs a life saving transplant, but Delaine and her parents are flat broke. I mean over extended broke! So she decides to do the most selfless act....sell her V-Card! I mean who wouldn't want to buy an Un-touched beauty!?

Bring in Noah Crawford...Billionaire, playboy, broken when it comes to relationships. He figures he can teach her to please him exactly the way he likes and have no strings attached. He's tried a relationship before...didn't work out so well for him. What he doesn't expect is Delaine's smart-assed attitude and her unwillingness to back down.

This creates heat unlike any other. They fight...they make up...they love. But then complications arise and Noah finds out the real reason behind her auction and strings start to become attached...The cliffhanger C.L. Parker leaves us with makes me want more so bad! I mean on the edge of my seat can't take no more bad!

CL put a trance on me !

I swear CL put a trance on me as soon as i started reading this book. I could'nt put the darn thing down. Then i had to hop right on over to book 2 because that cliffhanger ending lit a fire in me.
The charators Noah and Lanie are enjoyable.I loved the fact that she's so innocent , but yet she has an attitude and she knows when to use it. There are alot of emotional scenes , but my favorite parts , besides the sex scenes of coarse have to be hands down the hilarious banter andinner voices of Laine .
