Publishers Weekly
Inspirational publisher Shadow Mountain launches the G-rated Proper Romance line (romance “at its very best—and at its cleanest,” the introduction promises) with this delightful and completely engrossing Heyeresque Regency debut. The newly widowed Mr. Daventry sends his beautiful, elegant daughter Cecily to have a season in London and ships her “quiet and dull” twin, Marianne, to her grandmother’s home in Bath. When Marianne is allowed to visit the beautiful Edenbrooke estate and reunite with Cecily, she is overjoyed, despite her anxiety about the social niceties she abhors. But her journey turns tumultuous and she unexpectedly meets Philip, a devastatingly handsome man with an irresistible sense of humor and a great many secrets. When Philip’s true identity is revealed, Marianne must confront her fears as well as her growing affection for him. This beautiful love story will warm (only) the reader’s heart. Ms. Donaldson shows great promise. As a debut novel Edenbrooke was delightful and diverting. She particularly excelled at the witty repartee between the main characters and developed the second string beautifully to support the narrative.

LOVED IT! DID NOT WANT IT TO END!

I couldn't put this book down it was so fantastic. I hated returnig it to the library. Will definitely have to buy my own copy soon.

Like others, I finished reading this story (at 2:20 am) and immediately read it again the next day. I have since recommended it to both my book club, my 71 year old mother and my 15 year old niece. This story made my heart sing... Oh if only... sigh...

    Enjoyed every second while reading

To my pleasant surprise I read this book in one sitting and mourned when it was over. I did not want to leave the wonderful world Julianne had created when she wove her characters into my heart. I quite literally laughed, smiled and cried my way through this little book and my heart soared that so many emotions could be present without the underlying lust and sex that too often shows up in in the books we read. I recommend this book to everyone. Can't wait to read her next work and I'm indebted to my friend for passing along a good book they knew I would enjoy!

This is one of the best novels I've read in a while. When I put it down I had no regrets and enjoyed every second while reading.

    Great Book

This is the most refreshing book I have read in a while. The characters just came to life and you were lost in what happens next, sitting on the edge of your seat. You could feel every emotion that Marianne and Philip felt like you were right there in the midst of what was happening. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down! I can't wait for this authors next book!

New Favorite for a picky reader

I've become very selective, especially when it comes to historical fiction since it's so hard to find one that feels authentic. Edenbrooke was beautifully written. Julianne Donaldson's prose was witty, entertaining, authentic, and all around amazing. Her heroine was absolutely endearing. It tickled my Pride and Prejudice itch perfectly. In fact, I immediately re-read my borrowed copy and then bought it for myself. I only wish that Donaldson had other books out for me to read, but until she comes out with something else, I'll keep rereading Edenbrooke and then hit up my Austen collection. Well done.

Debut novelist Julianne Donaldson has written a proper romance novel. Edenbrooke is the glorious British estate where Marianne Daventry is sent to visit her social butterfly sister, who has been staying with the friend of their deceased mother.
From the very beginning of the novel we understand that Marianne is a head-strong young women. We also understand that the apple did not fall far from the tree when we are introduced to her wealthy and wickedly sharp-witted grandmother. (The letters exchanged between these two ladies will make you laugh aloud.)
What made me love this novel is that Donaldson gave Marianne one very interesting and unusual characteristic, she likes to twirl. You know, where you put your arms out to your side and spin around until you are dizzy. Unfortunately, there isn’t much in Marianne’s life at the moment to make her happy enough to spin. Her mother died. Her grief-stricken father fled to France. Her twin sister was sent to London while she was sent to live with her socially strict grandmother. But then she meets Phillip.
Phillip is a mysterious gentleman who immediately starts flirting with Marianne and organizing her life. She can’t tell whether to be bemused or bothered.
To tell anymore of this story would give away too much of Donaldson’s enjoyable plot. I can tell you that Donaldson’s command of witty dialogue proves that this is one novelist who understands human interaction. In one whispered phrase in Marianne’s ear, she can invoke all the tingly passion that other authors can only inspire with graphic description of lust.
Edenbrooke is a romance story that protective mothers would feel comfortable letting their teenage daughters read, and yet its characters and plot are intricate enough that hardened romance readers will never miss the lack of sex for there is plenty of passion in these pages.

I've tried to get into Romance and "Regency" novels before but always came away at least a little disatisfied. But, I loved this novel. The lead characters were appealing and the dialog was great. Very romantic without sex.

In this charming book, you will find yourself whisked off into elegance of the early 1800's country side. Although this is Julianne Donaldson's first book, it is written with the charm and elegance of a far more experienced author.
Marianne Daventry goes to the beautiful estate of Edenbrooke. Her twin sister Cecily is hopeful to be the bride of the eldest brother in the family. But when she arrives, Cecily is detained.  Things take an unexpected turn as Marianne gets lost in the country and the estate. Horse back rides, chess games and day to day activity, will make you wish you were born 200 years late.
This is a perfect clean book for kids, and yet older generations will still enjoy it. Who couldn't? With 240 pages filled with beauty and elegance.
Edenbrooke offers the perfect book for any age, personality and book taste. There is also a FANTASTIC book trailer of youtube Just type 'Edenbrooke Booke Trailer' and it will show up. The only negative is that it was too short.
I would recommend this to anyone!

    Delightful

One way I measure a book's worth is by how often, if ever, I reread it. Edenbrooke has already earned itself a second, third, and fourth read. I found it to be a story that rereading only increased my appreciation. I anxiously await Ms. Donaldson's next work. This is definitely a keeper.

    Loved the book!
It is rare these days to find a romance book that I feel good about recommending to both my 14 and 11 year old daughters to read. And it's even rarer that we ALL loved it!!! This book would be a perfect choice for a Mother/Daughter book club.
Thank you for such a fun story. I hope that there will be more to come!
