Seeking liberation and a fuller awareness of self, Nia Simone Bijou enters a glittering fantasy world of erotic temptations. But some unfinished business shows up at her erotic playground. A successful screenwriter from Trinidad, Nia has no shortage of willing lovers. Most recently, she has indulged in a spontaneous ménage à trois with a lovely woman from Vancouver and Bret--Bret, who (like an erotic magician) can work carnal trickery with a basic towel. Recalling a torrid sexual marathon with the exotic, powerful businessman named Prada, Nia cannot deny that she longs for him but finds herself reluctant to pursue a relationship with him, since no one man could ever satisfy her for long. Even worse, he says he's in love with her. Further in her past lurks Chris, her first love and the man who broke her heart. Restless and in search of sexual adventures, Nia joins the exclusive club Decadence, which offers adult pleasures--awarding membership only to the most physically beautiful applicants (after screening them for all known sexually transmitted infections). Initially a voyeur, Nia is quickly drawn into active participation, engaging in anonymous sex with men and women who signal their wealth with Mont Blanc watches and Louboutin shoes. Dickey (An Accidental Affair, 2012, etc.) focuses on aroused body parts (often with pretentious, quasi-mystical euphemisms). Combined with such clinical observation, Nia's minute description of every throb and moan cheapens the hedonistic exploits into crude thrills. Her ostensible quest for a man who can indulge her every fantasy devolves into a three-ring circus of sexual acrobatics. By the time Chris, Prada and Bret return to her life, and Nia must make some real-life decisions with real-life consequences, the reader is numb and ready to go home. More debauched soft pornography than tantric sexual quest.

Eric Jerome Dickey

Eric Jerome Dickey is the New York Times bestselling author of twenty novels including An Accidental Affair, Tempted by Trouble, Dying for Revenge, and the NAACP Image Award-nominated Thieves' Revenge. He is also the author of a six-issue miniseries of graphic novels for Marvel Enterprises, featuring Storm (X-Men) and the Black Panther. Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Dickey now lives on the road and rests in whatever hotel will have him.

Biography

Eric Jerome Dickey was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and attended the University of Memphis (the former Memphis State), where he pledged Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and earned a degree in computer system technology. In 1983, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in engineering.

After landing a job in the aerospace industry working as a software developer, Dickey's artistic talents surfaced, inspiring him to become an actor and a stand-up comedian. He soon began working the local and national comedy circuit. In the early 1990s the aerospace industry took a downward turn and Dickey found himself "downsized," but took this as an opportunity to embark on a writing career.

Having written several scripts for his personal comedy act, Dickey started writing poetry and short stories. He joined the IBWA (International Black Writers and Artists), participated in their development workshops, and became a recipient of the IBWA SEED Scholarship to attend UCLA's creative writing classes. In 1994 his first published short story, "Thirteen," appeared in the IBWA's River Crossing, Voices of the Diaspora: An Anthology of the International Black Experience. A second short story, "Days Gone By," was published in the magazine A Place to Enter.

With those successes behind him, Dickey decided to fine-tune some of his earlier work and developed a screenplay called Cappuccino. Cappuccino was directed and produced by Craig Ross Jr. and appeared in coffeehouses around the Los Angeles area. In February 1998, Cappuccino made its local debut during the Pan African Film Festival at the Magic Johnson Theater in Los Angeles and is currently on the film festival circuit.

Dickey's book-signing tours for Sister, Sister, Friends and Lovers, and Milk in My Coffee took him coast to coast and helped propel these novels to No. 1 on the Blackboard bestsellers List. His books have been featured in many publications, including Essence magazine and USA Today, and have appeared on the bestseller lists of The Los Angeles Times, Blackboard, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times. Dickey has appeared as a guest on many television shows, including BET's Our Voices and CNN's Sunday Morning Live.

    I don't think I was ready for this book. Eric Jerome Dickey has already established himself as the best writer in the business, but with this book, he has truly outdone himself.  While I won't spoil the plot for you, I will tell you this, give yourself the time to read it in one sitting. I finished it in one night. I couldn’t stop turning the pages. It is just that good. Eric Jerome Dickey never disappoints!

    PLEASURE’s Nia Simone Bijou is back. Four years have passed and she has found success with a film she’s written. On the crux of its debut, Nia’s membership to Decadence, an exclusive pleasure palace, has been approved. While exploring a new level of sexual freedom, Nia can’t help but also be consumed with Prada, a businessman with whom she is intimately acquainted; Bret, her workout partner with whom she shared one night of bliss; and her first love, which ended in heartbreak and betrayal that still lingers.

    DECADENCE whisks readers headlong into the private adult club. A place where fantasies are fulfilled, voyeurism achieved. Dickey succeeds in capturing Nia’s world and emotions in word. Nia is confident, beautiful and strong, but deep down, she has insecurities. She remains a fascinating character.

    DECADENCE is a slow, lazy read, but in a good way. Slow and lazy like a Sunday evening drive. Not a lot happens, yet a whole lot happens. It gives Dickey plenty of opportunity to use his words and that’s exactly what he does.

    Some readers may have problems in following Dickey’s plot because there is a lot of sex. A lot of sex. But it’s sex with substance. With a story. With emotions. With history. With purpose.

    When people saw I was reading this book I was asked repeatedly if it was good because opinions varied so greatly to both extremes. I’ll say this: Dickey is a beast when it comes to words. Period. Point blank. And in that order! If you are a prude or not into heavy erotica, this is NOT the book for you as his imagery is phenomenal. He has a way of evoking all five of your senses and placing you right in the book along with Nia. This is definitely grown folks reading. If you want a microwavable book, you know, like so many books today. A book that’s quick, fast and in a hurry, this is NOT the book for you. Dickey takes his time, nice and slow. If you want easy and simple prose, this is NOT the book for you. While you won’t need a dictionary to read this book, there’s a lot to digest. Nia’s journey is one narrated by a literary master.

    I enjoyed my time with DECADENCE. It is not a book for everyone. I’d recommend it to any old school reader who enjoys grown folks reading and words. You know, like the way it used to be…

    The sequel you have been waiting for

    This novel was superb, it had me hooked from start to finish, i couldnt put it down and read it through in one night EJD outdid himself and im left begging for more literay genius and erotically tinged prose

    Hungry

    I must say that the book was the vision! I'm so happy that I was up all night reading and I had no sleep, and it was worth it. Mr.Dickey, I'll take my hat off too you because you are the KING in the book world to me.

    Can't wait to see what you will do next.

    Not a sequel

    This book was a lame attempt at finishing off a really good book. It had no plot and no ending, it was a waste of my time and money.

    Disappointed!

    I thought this book would be better than it was. I think that it was very slow starting. Then, I did not like how it ended. I felt like there were several things that were not answered. A waste of my $10.

    EJD does it again!!...

    With such a penchant for making his readers feel like they belong in his stories, Dickey has done what he does best...leaving his readers wanting more!

    The scenes are HOTT, the relationships unfathomable and we finally get to see Nia contemplate heading into a season of calm.

    This book was awesome! I read this book in two days and I actually wanted more! I love the character of Miss Nia Simone Bijou! I love how she is so free with her sexuality and with who she is as a woman. Sometimes I wish I was this character! This book is a must have!

    Trying to cool down!

    Either a slow read or so much sex that I was too heated to get through certain parts, lol! Overall, good read! I would love to see more of Miss Nia Simone Bijou!

    P.S. I am excited to see that we will be seeing more of Gideon! I miss him!

    Ok...

    I am a big fan of EJD but I feel this book was just ok. Maybe too many words?... it started to feel as though he was just using them as fillers. I ended up feeling sad for Nia, I am all for strong, sexually independent women but it seemed as though she was just damaged and hadn't fully dealt with her past heart break. I hope if he writes anymore on her that he will try and make her deal with her issues and then maybe give her a chance at a positive ending.

    Highly Recommended

    Once again Eric takes you on an exciting and sensual ride that it's hard to put down the book. It's erotic, full of fantasy and even sad but worth a second read.
