Let me start off by saying that I adore jeanine frost and think she is an amazing author. I have read every book in this series and have loved them all except for books 5&6. Books 1-4 were amazing. They had so much passion and drama in them that they quickly became my favorite books that I have ever read. Then I bought book 5 and was a little disapointed with how that book turned out. I had hope that book 6 would get back on track with the previous books and have that fire burning romance between Cat and Bones that books 1-4 had. Sadly I was VERY disapointed with this book. It doesn't even compare to her previous books in the series. It felt like it was rushed and it turned into to a filler book. There was barely any of the playful banter or deep profound love scenes between Cat and Bones. All in all after reading this book I can't even say I would read it a second time, its just that mundane. I have re-read her previous books several times over, and with this one I dont have that sudden urge to read it again. I absolutely LOVE this series and Bones and Cat are my two favorite characters ever. I just wish this book would have been as good as its counterparts. Heres to crossing my fingers and hoping the rest of the series gets back on track!

Having stated that I found this Cat and Bones book boring, lack lustre and not as exciting as the previous editions. There was a definite lack of detail throughout the novel which lead me to believe that this book was rushed. Im pretty stinkin disappointed and hope that Frost puts out better work soon!

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.jeaniene frost is my favorite author...i have read all the previous in the series and connected series...this would be the least favorite of them all...it was lacking the normal excitement and passion of previous books...and the story seemed to just repeat over and over the same thing with the ghost trying to get at her...hopefully the next one will be better...i can normally finish one in a night...this took two weeks

Jeanine frost is one of my favorite authors and i love both of her series. However this was not her best work. Although this book showed off her comedic side and had me laughing it just didn't have the apocalypse effect her books usually has. It seems the book is not finished because ****************SPOILER ALERT**************** what happens to her uncle? How did they get Kramer in the trap? And what happened with the situation between Tate and Madigan. I would love to know what happened with all these issues. Overall an ok read.

I love this series, I have read them all several times. The chemistry between Cat and Bones is great..but this book just didn't grab me like they usually do. What I felt was the main plot of the book having to do with Don and the team was all forgotten as the real plot took place. I'll gladly buy the next book in the series and hope it's back on track! Just a little disappointed with this one.

I will give it to you that this book was not nearly as steamy as her previous books but we cannot just have a book all about sex, if thats what you are looking for go read porn stories they are out there i am sure. I think the ghost was a big lame womp womp miss frost needs to rethink the angle and think about how she has developed the charachters previously to decide how to best continue the series. Hoping for redemption in the next book. Cross your fingers everyone.

Another great addition to the series. I cant wait to read the last two in the series when theyre done. I find that whenever things start to slow down in the story, something unexpected and surprising always happens. This for me is true with every book Ms. Frost has written. She is truly talented.

I am hooked. The entire series must be read from #1 to see how much the characters grow in their love for each other and their strengths and abilities. It's a fun read, with lots of humorous dialogue and crazy paranormal surprises to keep you coming back for more! *Thumbs up*

After the standoff between the ghouls and the vampires, in the last installment of the Night Huntress series, This Side of the Grave, Cat and Bones discovered that Cat’s Uncle Don is still on Earth, as a ghost. Bones shows Don that the threat from the ghouls has died along with Apollyon and that Cat is safe so he can move on. But, despite Don’s attempt he can’t pass to the other side. Bones and Cat try to help him, but nothing works.
Cat still has her powers from Marie, much to her dismay, as strange ghosts are still reaching out to her and Bones and she are never alone. One of those ghosts is Elisabeth. She is reaching out for help as she is trying to kill a fellow ghost and known witch hunter, Heinrich Kramer. Elisabeth was one of his victims. She was raped tortured and burned to death at his hands.
Now Kramer walks the Earth in the flesh one day a year; Halloween. On that day he burns three women to death every year. He targets women he has picked out weeks before Samhain and torments them with help from an accomplice. The accomplice then kidnaps them on Halloween to let Kramer finish them off. Cat and Bones don’t hesitate to help Elisabeth end Kramer’s reign of terror once and for all. But what happens when Cat becomes one of Kramer’s targets? And when her borrowed powers start to fade she will truly understand the old adage, be careful what you wish for.
It’s the Halloween season and there’s nothing like a good ghost story to get you in the mood for the things that go bump in the night. And, throw in the witch trials and you have the making of a great Halloween tale that you won’t want to quit reading.
I thought bringing a bit of history into this book was a lot of fun and bringing in a true life villain from the past in the form of Heinrich Kramer was interesting and a smart move by Frost. It gave you a glimpse of the torture these women suffered during the witch trials and how ignorant people truly were during that time. I do have to admit the repetition of Kramer showing up and wrecking havoc to poof away again and again did get a bit old and trying after awhile though.
I was glad that the spark between Bones and Cat was reignited in this book, as I had felt it wane a bit in previous installments of the series. And, the whole sex in the sky thing? It was kind of hot even if it was a bit so far-out there that I couldn’t really picture it completely.
And, I cannot do a review on this book without talking about Ian. Ian has been a total ass since he was introduced in the series, but he has really grown on me and he was the primary source of humor in this novel. I’ve come to love his perverted observations and comments. Maybe that says something about me:)
“Your mum pounced on her and started sucking away. Would’ve been arousing if not for all the screaming.”
“Ian,” Bones drew out warningly.
He grinned. “You’re right. I was aroused anyway.”
He does leave me a bit torn though. Part of me would love to see a book about Ian. But another part of me fears it. Once you have a book on a character, in a series like this, they usually find their life partner. And, if Ian had a girlfriend or wife he wouldn’t be free to make some of the nasty comments I’ve come to expect from him. So for now I’m happy for him to stay single, but I wouldn’t mind him having a nice fling now and again so he wouldn’t seem so lonely.

The Night Huntress series is like a delicious chocolate that you savour and you are licking your lips for more. Nothing beats a piece of chocolate that you find yourself reaching back into the packet to get another piece until you are so satisfied that you go to bed happy. It is your guilty pleasure.
Bones is my guilty pleasure and in turn Cat is his. I am addicted to this series based on these two characters. Then Jeaniene stirs in a little at a time, Vlad, and now Ian is growing on me and getting stirred in to the storyline. But when I don’t get a lot of Bones and Vlad seems to have disappeared and Ian although he has popped into the mix a bit more, he isn’t Vlad....... well, something was a tad missing from this installment.
I do enjoy some sub characters getting a bit of air time, but Elisabeth and Fabian didn’t really satisfy me in this book. Every time I heard the name Kramer , I was thinking of Seinfeld, now that isn’t a good sign.
It was a great little mystery, but it didn’t have all the regulars playing their part. Juan and Tate and the banter were gone. Don, well he is playing super sleuth and Madigan adds interest but then that kind of faded in and out of the storyline.
I think when Cat can heal herself with all her Vampire mojo, makes it hard for Bones to be that guy he was in the early books. Cat needs his protection even less. I like the female lead to get a bit of a beating , be strong , but also need a helping hand. Cat, really no longer needs a helping hand. She kind of has it all going on which leaves little room for needing protecting. A car gets slammed on top of her, bones are broken etc, but just give me a jiffy and I will be good to go another round. Sure she ends up bald in this installment, like that is going to worry Bones, but apparently there was a solution for Vampire Baldness as well...ha!
I want Cat to lose some powers that she is garnering off certain more powerful characters and need to be protected again. I want her to be a strong character but she is getting too strong, which starts to leave no room for needing anybody to be there for her when she can heal in seconds, fly, leap tall buildings in a single bound ( well you get what I mean) , be stabbed, shot, body slammed by a car and not to mention set on fire. It’s a case of give me a jiffy and I will be all good.
Helsing and Dexter get more air time than Vlad. I liked Tyler and his love of ogling the boys and his comments, they were fun. I do enjoy Jeaniene’s banter she has with her character’s, it lightens all the killing that is inevitable in her books. I enjoy the uber smexi, but , I was having a tad trouble with the mile high club, like ...really?
I still recommend this book and love the series dearly, but I did think that maybe the story was not overly satisfying like it usually is. I want to get back to fighting the good fight and maybe the pro bono for the ghosts is one for a novella.

This book was amazing, I really enjoyed it, at great addition to the Night Huntress series.
I really enjoyed Cat and Bones in this book, they are better than ever together. No more leaving each other behind, no more forces separations. They are great together.
Cat has really grown in this book, she has a very long life ahead of her, and is finally realizing it. This changes her outlook a little, but she is still the Cat we all know and love. She still has her great sense of humor and is full of her witty snide remarks. She has finally realized she can be happy in the moment.
Then there is Bones, What a HOTTIE! Love Bones. He is also growing and developing as well. I like that he has loosened up a bit, not as severe in his vampire territorialism as he usually is, he's a little more trusting. I also love how he is treating Cat more as a partner now.
I love how the romance is solid, there are so many small tender moments between them that really made me smile. For those who like them sex scenes, there is one that was unique and fun. Let's just say, it gives the "Mile High Club" a whole new meaning, lol.
The challenge in this book is a little harder than things Cat has come up against in the past. But how do you fight something that isn't corporal? Something you can't touch, and can't die or be erased? I enjoyed watching Cat try to out maneuver a crafty old ghost. Cat can't just unleash her Red Reaper skills since she can't physically touch the sly witch hunter. I wish we could have seen her go all Reaper on everything, but just wasn't something that fit in the book this time.
ONE GRAVE AT A TIME was a nice installment to this series, which I had a hard time putting it down. I like where Jeaniene Frost is taking Cat and Bones and am glad some of the magic is back.
I highly recommend this book, especially if your into the series with Cat and Bones. If you have never read any of the Night Huntress books, I suggest picking up the first one, and read on from there. You won't be sorry. Halfway to the Grave is the first in this series.

It's a good book but kind of "off". It has no loves scenes, they are fighting a ghost so no physical fighting and not a lot of interaction with the other vampires like the prev books. I miss all that stuff, not sure why they are missing esp the love scenes. I really hope the next book is more like her previous books than this one. :( I am worried that she may have no where to go with cat and bones... so sad .

New to the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost, I was pleasantly surprised as I stepped into the sixth book in the series, "One Grave at a Time." Typically, when jumping in mid-story, it's easy to find yourself lost in the tangle of what could have occurred vs. what you're newly learning. Not the case with Frost. Though there was certainly a past between the characters-one that I now intend to go back and discover-her concise writing style and ability to blend just enough back-story, kept the pages turning, which only led to peaking my interest for the past that much more.
It seems as though it would be a monumental task to learn and develop the mainstream skills most would imagine undertaking when becoming a vampire. However, Cat Crawfield hasn't had normal characteristics since the day she turned. She's got a few very interesting abilities that she receives from the food she ingests, which is another uncommon aspect to this vampire. Cat doesn't feed on humans and right now, she's a beacon to the dead. Not the fresh from the grave zombie-types, but the dearly departed who are linked to the earth and now spend their days in spectral form. Thankfully, Cat's never far from her co-master vampire husband, Bones or she'd be in life-threatening danger because these considerable powers are on borrowed time.
No one is more surprised than Cat when her uncle, the recently departed, Don Williams-former head of an elite group of Homeland Security-can't seem to move on. With her new-found powers, you'd think she'd be able to do something to help the man who meant so much to her, but it's not to be and when she's tasked with killing a ghost and centuries-dead, former witch hunter, she needs all the support she can get.
