Super sweet and lovely romance! The Devil of Clan Sinclair was a wonderful historical romance. It was sweet, steamy, and a fantastic read. Loved it!
Virginia was a good heroine. On one hand, I really liked that she was a strong character, in that she was so determined to take care of her family. And, for the most part, she was a likable heroine. But, sometimes, I just got so frustrated with her. For example, it was unfair of her that, when she knew Macrath had been in love with her, she went to him to get pregnant. Didn't she consider that it would be like pouring salt on a wound, since she was planning to leave him? And, also, how she expected Macrath to just give up his child. In the beginning, it was wrong of her to hide his son from him. That wasn't fair. Then, I don't understand how she expected Macrath to give his son up. She knew that he was the kind of honorable, loving man who would never abandon his child. And she loved him for that. So, why did she expect him to do the opposite of his nature? It was frustrating. But, though I did get annoyed with her, it wasn't enough to make me dislike her. I still thought she was a lovely heroine. I just wanted to shake some sense into her a few times.
Macrath was perfect. I had absolutely no complaints about him. He was so sweet and wonderful and adorable. He literally had no flaws. He was amazing and I adored him.
The romance was sweet and steamy. Despite their first relationship having been torn apart by Virginia's forced marriage, they were still in love with each other. I thought it was so sweet that, after a year, they were still totally in love. And, there was a ton of chemistry between them. Made even more intense by their time apart. I thought they were a lovely couple.
The plot was fast paced and I was hooked the entire way through. I really enjoyed the story. It was so sweet. And the ending was wonderful. It definitely left a smile of my face when I finished the book.
The Devil of Clan Sinclair was a wonderful historical romance. I really enjoyed this book. It was sweet and lovely and just brilliant! Lovers of romance, this is a book you'll want to check out.

I love this author’s works,but, with that said….the first half of this story was a little slow. It has lots and lots of detail, switching back and forth between the present and the year before(both in the 19th century). BUT it picks up nicely,after the first few chapters,however, the ending felt a little rushed but very exciting. I understand why the author gave so much detail about the characters first meeting and all,but it got a little boring. It is filled with passion,danger,secrets,deceit,betrayal,the invention of refrigeration,and love. While, the story is very interesting I felt it fell short of her usual fast paced, action packed,thrill ride of Scottish adventure. It does leave a few unanswered questions, such as what happened to the bad guy and will we see him again in a future “Clan Sinclair”story? I also, did not think it had her usual Scottish burr which to me makes the story more realistic. The characters are engaging, and charming at times. While, the heroine,Virginia Traylor, Countess of Barrett,was likeable,I wanted to stab her with a fork,how mousy can one person be for goodness sakes. Not to know your own mind and heart,please…Now the hero, Bless him, Macrath Sinclair,better known as The Devil,you can’t help wanting what the hearts wants. He wants Virginia,and to start a clan of his own. He has made his fortune with his inventions and his family’s newspaper. An interesting storyline and one I look forward to re-visiting. Please don’t let what I say discourage you from reading “The Devil of Clan Sinclair”it is an enjoyable read and the beginning of a new series. For that alone I would read again. Received for an honest review from the publisher and Above the Treeline.

Started a little slow but then built into a full on intrigue.
When her husband dies without an heir, Virginia Traylor, Countess of Barrett finds herself in dire circumstances since the estate will pass to a cousin unless she can produce a son before time makes it impossible. Whereas she has options, in desperation, she turns to the man she loved and hoped to marry before her father forced her into a failed marriage with the Earl – the self-made, very handsome and very wealthy Macrath Sinclair.
Still in love with Macrath, and knowing he is still in love with her, Virginia seduces him and becomes pregnant. She then passes the child off as her dead husband's and keeps the truth from Macrath. When he discovers the truth upon visiting Virginia in London where she’s fallen ill, Macrath steals the baby away back to his home in Scotland. Virginia follows Macrath and desperately tries to convince him to relinquish her son. More truths are exposed when her husband’s servant, Paul, follows her to Scotland. As lies are exposed, trouble ensues, and soon Macrath is fighting to protect Virginia and his son before a murderer can take them both from him.
It took me a while to get hooked by THE DEVIL OF CLAN SINCLAIR by Karen Ranney, mainly because I had trouble keeping things straight between the past and present entries, but I’m not one to give up on a book so I kept with it, and I am very glad that I did. Once the story began to unfold, and the lies began to untangle, this second-chance romance between Macrath and Virginia blossomed into a tale that tugged at my heartstrings. I began to see Virginia as a woman with a goal and a formidable love for her child as well as the man she truly desired, rather than the conniving woman she started out as, and the one who threatened to destroy Macrath’s heart.
Karen Ranney always writes complex characters and storylines but this one had a few more twists and turns than usual, which kept me intrigued. I’m not going to say anything further for fear I may give away spoilers, which are better left discovered by you. I am going to recommend that if you enjoy a formidable hero, a conniving heroine, and a treacherous interloper who only wants what he wants without accepting the consequences, THE DEVIL OF CLAN SINCLAIR by Karen Ranney is one that will keep you intrigued – well, once you get into it, that is. But trust me, your patience will pay off.

American heiress Virginia Traylor came to London with her title grabbing father. She meets the perfect man for herself, a Scot named Macrath Sinclair. He is a rich newspaperman and famous inventor, but he has not title. Virginia and her money are sold to an invalid and becomes the Countess of Barrett and she and Macrath are separated by her father, lies and countries. After her hubby's death, she and her new family are left out of will and everything goes to the next heir. She needs to become pregnant, so she goes to Scotland for the only man she has ever loved, Macrath, and never tells him what she is doing. They begin a web of lies and pain and they are separated again by their own stupidity. Will these two ever be honest? Can Virginia give up her title and London for her Macrath? Will Macrath ever forgive her many lies? Who is the evil figure who wants to destroy Virginia and her happiness? I loved this book and have the next book in my greedy hands and reading it next. Ms. Ranney has such a passion for Scotland and she shares it with me in each of her AWESOME Scottish books. Her characters are so flawed and always have a difficult journey to understand themselves. I totally believe that, "If you don't love yourself, no one will love you either!" Ms. Ranney proves it this story of two people who love one another, but need to love themselves, too. I have to give the loveable story my top score of 5 fingers up and 10 toes!

Liked the story line but the writing was hard to follow. May just be the poor ebook version and needed more editing. Yet I liked the characters enough I bought the next two books and am holding out hope.

My favorite genre is Historical Romance--hands down although I can see where you might get a different opinion from the reviews I've done! Obviously I also love Medical Thrillers, Mysteries, Futuristic (Dystopian), Contemporary Romance and have been known to read everything else as well. But it is really Historical Romance that has always been my first love! So when I read on Teresa Medieros Sweet Treats email where she tells us what books are on sale from authors she and I love! (yes I am subscribed to her email because she is one of my favorite author's). I don't know about today--but yesterday (Sunday) The Devil of Clan Sinclair was on sale for 1.99--I bought it and read it all in the same day. There are a couple of others on that short list that I am interested in but will have to wait. The Devil of Clan Sinclair is the first in a series so I will try to get them first.
This isn't the usual Highland Scotsman--Macrath Sinclair was brought up in Edinborough in a poor family. He decided that he would never be poor again and amassed a fortune first by expanding his father's newspaper (broadsheet) business and then by inventing an ice machine!
Virginia is American, the only child of a multimillionaire who has decided he wants to be the father of a Countess so forces her to cross the sea to find a husband. Macrath and Virginia meet and fall in love-but Dad has other plans. Remember that back then woman had no say in who they married. She marries the man her father specifies, but her heart and soul still belongs to Macrath.
What happens next to these star-crossed lovers--will they ever come to terms with each other? Will she ever tell him the truth? Yes, I know all the answers--but am not going to tell you!!

I've liked other Karen Ranney books better, but all in all it was a good read.

I've always been a big fan of historical fiction, enjoy Victorian era plots, and adore Highlanders. I was really looking forward to reading this book. It is well written, with an easy turn of phrase and understandable description with appropriate settings. However, I also like a Scottish burr to keep me firmly planted near a Celtic cross, and passion that resembles a sweep-you-away down draft on the Devil's Staircase of the West Highland Way. There was too much flashback and back again and again to develop the kind of whirlwind that whips the bangs of a Highland heifer or the cod piece of a tenacious shepherd. That disappointed me.
The plot, or to be specific the heroine's moral choice in the plot, was daring. Not even a part II Scarlet O'Hara would lie about something as important as paternity. That said, the author managed to retrieve the heroine's dignity by visiting upon her the trials and anguish of Job. (For those of you unfamiliar with Biblical references, think plague instead.) The subplots were ambitious and added flavor if not substance to the story.
Overall this was a well written if not always smoothly transitioned work. I do recommend it to historical, Victorian, and Highland loving readers. You will enjoy it and devour it in an afternoon.

Ranney has woven an emotional tapestry that wraps tightly around you with each gripping page. I surrendered immediately to this captivating book!
Virginia has to bat down the urge towards docility and fight for what’s hers. With several people depending on her, she can’t let her emotions take over her life. Macrath Sinclair was in love with her once, but after the pain she has caused him, she can’t see him ever forgiving her. Asking for his trust is beyond absurd and she doesn’t have the fortitude to tell him the complete truth. With a sinister man holding a secret over her head and another one holding her heart, she must find a way to save those closest to her without losing herself.
Macrath Sinclair knows what he wants and he intends to get it. A man with his intellect should not be pining over a woman this way. His pride becomes liquid when she’s around and he speaks from the heart without control. If only he could make her see the courage she possesses, she would never have to give in again to anyone but him.
This novel was written expertly and is a prize to behold. The setting was dictated beautifully, and the story line was brilliant. Movement between viewpoints is handled so skillfully, it doesn’t confuse the reader and allows the story to flow smoothly. The character background is informative and interesting. The love between Macrath and Virginia is full of passion and the banter was amusing. My heart fluttered with excitement as each steamy romantic scene played out. The skill in which the author portrays this world of mystery, love, hate, and devotion is one that I truly admire. I simply love it when a writer takes the time after the story to explain fact vs. fiction. I can’t wait to read her next novel!
