Overview

From the New York Times bestselling Julie James comes this "tantalizing dessert—a delicious delightful read that all hopeless romantics will enjoy" (Chicago Sun-Times). For fans of Susan Mallery and Rachel Gibson.

WHEN IT COMES TO THE LAWS OF ATTRACTION…
Payton Kendall and J.D. Jameson are lawyers who know the meaning of objection. A feminist to the bone, Payton has fought hard to succeed in a profession dominated by men. Born wealthy, privileged, and cocky, J.D. has fought hard to ignore her. Face to face, they’re perfectly civil. They have to be. For eight years they’ve kept a safe distance and tolerated each other as co-workers for one reason only: to make partner at the firm.

…THERE ARE NO RULES.
But all bets are off when they’re asked to join forces on a major case. At first apprehensive, they begin to appreciate each other’s dedication to the law—and the sparks between them quickly turn into attraction. But the increasingly hot connection doesn’t last long when they discover that only one of them will be named partner. Now it’s an all out war. And the battle between the sexes is bound to make these lawyers hot under the collar…

    Great Humor

It's always exciting to find a new author who writes about smart, funny, sexy, sassy, savvy women and men. Let's face it Susan Elizabeth Phillips only writes one book a year, so when you find an author who is as good as SEP it's time to celebrate.

    Wow

    ## Holy crap. This book is amazing! Generally i stay away from books that have so much conflict in it, and the words "cocky" and "lawyers" in the description. Truthfully, i only bought it because it was written by julie james. I'm so glad i did. It was so funny and sexy that i couldn't put it down. Do yourself a favor and read this book. Also, while you are at it, buy "a lot like love" and "something about you", both by julie james and are phenomenal. Note to author: write faster!!

    Light fun read!

This was a sweet, light romance. There were also some great funny scenes. I loved the scene with her broken shoe in the court room. Great fun.

Sweet, Witty Legal Romance by Julie James

I hadn't read any of her books prior to this, but I will be reading all of them now :)
Loved Practice Makes Perfect and it had me laughing out loud a lot too. It would make a great movie; J.D and Payton's competitive natures lead them into some crazy antics, and then things heat up into something sweet but exciting.

    Couldn't put this book down!

Battle of the sexes doesn't even begin to cover the history between Peyton and J.D. This is a must read! Sparks fly from page one all the way through to the end of the story. Their story was laugh out loud funny and tugs just enough on the heart strings to keep you constantly on your toes. Practical jokes where designer pumps are involved is just WRONG! Loved this story, love this series and love this author! A great read!

    Great romance

Legal associates Payton Kendall and J.D. Jameson do not like one another as their respective behavior is polar opposites. Thus when they are assigned to work on a case together for the first time, neither is pleased. Both want to beg off, but learn that one of them will become a partner while the other will be unemployed.

Payton inadvertently embarrasses J.D. He assumes she did it on purpose so ups the ante by striking back. She in turn feels he went too far so tries to gain the edge. As they take turns evening the score, J.D. and Payton look forward to the next hit. Soon they fall into love, but that emotion cannot survive partnership.

Although battling lawyers falling in love has been used a lot (Redford-Wingar Legal Eagles), the lead couple¿s fighting love makes for a brisk contemporary romance. Payton and J.D. are an engaging pairing of seemingly total opposites in hate that actually disguises their caring for the other. Fans will enjoy enemy combatants trying to checkmate their adversary only to be trumped by falling in love while wondering how their relationship will survive the naming.

Harriet Klausner

    Fun read, but

This was fun book to read with a lot of romantic tension, but I never really felt like I got to know the characters. And I wasn't confident they really knew each other. That said, it was fun and I really enjoy Julie James' writing. Of her six books I've read in the last couple of months, this was my least favorite, but I would still recommend it.

    Not Bad...

Not a bad book, but not great either. JD's actions were pretty bad and it was surprising that Peyton let things go without much thought or discusion...

    Okay another absolute favorite!!!!!!

Can’t get enough of the witty banter between J.D. and Payton, not to mention the games they play. I have to say my favorite is the coffee on the suit and the tampered heel. If you want to know more you have to read.
